I DON‘T KNOW WHERE IT IS BUT SOMETHING‘S GOTTA GIVE It was a week before Thanksgiving and this was Natalie’s first real outing since the night of the Founder’s Fair. Not that she was alone. Her father and some church members were here at Rivalries along with a couple of the pub staff. They were having a fundraiser for a family in town who had lost everything. Their woodstove wasn’t installed properly so the house had caught fire. The parents and three kids had nothing left except the pajamas they were in. So, the church was helping to raise money as well as donated items for them. Someone was already letting them stay in an apartment for a quarter of the normal price while they bought things that weren’t donated. That’s the kind of town Hope Harbor was. Just like after Natalie’s ordeal people had showed overwhelming support. She woke up to flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, cards and other little trinkets. People came by to sit with her when her father couldn’t be there. While she appreciated it, she just felt uncomfortable half the time. She had been unable to see the faces of whoever had taken her and they used something funny to disguise their voice. The only thing was they talked about her father like they were close to him-knew a lot about him. So she was weary of just about everyone in her life right now. Except the McLaughlin’s and the Malone’s as there were very specific reasons. For the McLaughlin’s she had seen Sydni’s dad talking to her own father moments before she was taken. And they were still talking up until she was found so it couldn’t be him. And with the Malone’s it’s because Peyton was there when whoever had rescued her was brought to shore. The other girl didn’t see who saved Natalie but that wasn’t what mattered. Peyton was the one who got help for Natalie. That is what mattered because if not Natalie might not have been found for a long time. And with the amount of smoke she had breathed in, it had been crucial she got fresh oxygen into her lungs. Between her lungs and her burns, she had spent a good three weeks in the hospital before being allowed home. Still, Natalie hardly left home. She only returned to school about a week and a half ago. On her first day she had a meltdown in the hallway because someone had accidentally bumped into her from behind. She ended up in a ball on the floor, crying. A good chunk people looked at her like she was crazy, and perhaps she was. In the crowd there were some her came to her aide though, even students she didn’t really talk to before then. They understood her not wanting to be touched but helped her keep some dignity as she went to the counselor’s office before class. Natalie had been embarrassed and when home she heard on the answering machine some messages from church members asking if she was alright. That meant word may have spread. Even if it was just amongst church members it was hard. She hated being that person everyone talked about. At least being here kept her busy while she tried adjusting to the fact of being outside of her own home. Her father was always in sight and it’s not like the pub was massive. She grabbed a handful of hair and twisted it before putting in a large lobster clip to keep it out of her face. Still, some tendrils fell in front and out of the clip. She was a fairly plain girl with only some foundation on and mascara for make-up. With no mother, she had never learned how to do those sort of girly things. What Natalie knew she taught herself. Nothing about her was really flashy as she went about organizing some items that were coming in. they had a lot of clothes, not enough for the area designated. Natalie decided to bring the boxes as well as the items yet to be sorted to a cluster of tables away from the main group. She put the boxes on the tables and had the sides of the box with the names and sizes facing outwards. She then proceeded to sort through the new items that had come in, unable to stop herself from looking around. Ever since that night was constantly looking around to make sure no one was lurking just out of her vision line. Being kidnapped had really screwed her up in more ways then one. tagged ! |
