Natalie liked The Leap in the autumn. Not many people came here during the day because they couldn't swim. Now at night it was one of the popular places to drink. Normally she didn't know these things but she came here at night once and accidentally stumbled into a party. That night she just turned and ran. Natalie wasn't someone who partied. In truth, she hardly even socialized. She was a girl content with the routine of her life. Well, mostly so.
Sometimes even she had to admit it got dull. Wake up, look over her homework again, go to school, go to one of her volunteer programs, come home, practice one of her instruments, make and eat dinner. After she spent time with her father while she did her homework before she got ready for bed. That's it. Natalie hardly strayed from this routine. Occasionally there was a church event or a school sports game that she'd attend. Unless a friend from church-which weren't many-she went alone. Since her mother passed her father kept a close reign on her, leaving her fairly isolated. They only owned one television that was hardly ever turned on. She had to learn the basics of putting on make-up online! And for her "talk" she was given a book about puberty and her father reiterated what she had heard since she was child-one saved themselves for marriage because it's what God wanted. Natalie just said she knew and that was that. Not like there was any boys asking her out to begin with. She might as well be a leper with how out of place she felt in school. Not that anyone outright teased her except for the normal mean kids who teased everyone. She just didn't act like most teenagers.
Natalie was soft spoken and respectful towards people. She never said anything unkind to a person or about them and didn't participate in most teen activities. She didn't go to parties, drink or hook up with random people. Heck, Natalie preferred books and singing over anything else. Which is what brought her here-reading. She needed a change of scenery from her home. With that Natalie bundled up so she was fairly warm, grabbed a blanket to lay on and headed out. Getting to The Leap was a bit of a hike but totally worth it. When she got there she noticed a fee stray beer and soda cans. With a sigh she went about finding an area away from the litter. Up on the rocks proved to bed the perfect spot. Plus, there was a great view of the mini waterfall. It was part of what made the leap enticing. That and the small swimming hole which drained into the rive was cusped on three sides by small cliffs. People loved to jump off the cliffs into the chilly waters. Not Natalie. She just enjoyed coming here to read or sit and think about things. Things like her mother and college. She had applied to nearly every respectable one in the state and a few out of state. She knew her father wanted her to stay in New England so she respected that and only applied to schools between her an Massachusetts. All were in a driving distance so they could visit each other often.
After the blanket was laid out, Natalie moved down to rest on her stomach. Not the most comfortable position but she got used to it quickly. Her book laid flat as she rested her head on her open palm. Occasionally she looked up to look as the water went over the fall and then from there the pond drained into the small river. It was narrow but about half a mile or so down it widened. The Leap was a peaceful place when you could find time alone here. She could enjoy her book in peace as she escaped into the world from way back when.

jackson wasn't sure he had a favorite season. there was something about each of them that he didn't like. summer was too hot, fall was too windy, winter was too cold and spring was too rainy. well, in a normal climate, that is. and he didn't see maine as having a normal one. it was chilly most of the time and the rest of the time it was freezing. no, jackson was not a fan of maine, and he didn't think he'd ever get used to the climate. but the fact that his sisters and cousins lived here in hope harbor made it worth living there. plus, maine wasn't short on hot chicks, which was usually his main concern.
he'd heard of what the locals called 'the leap', but had never been there before. jackson didn't usually seek for alone time. he much more preferred to spend his time in female company. but, since the somewhat recent flare up of his brain cancer, he'd been finding places where people didn't go often because he did really want to be alone. the cancer itself wasn't as bad as the seizures he frequently got. the worst part about those was the fact that they seemed to strike at random. it could be something he ate or just because he was feeling overwhelmed. jackson tried to stay away from big crowds of people for that very reason. he didn't like to risk it.
jackson wasn't really the hiking type. he wrestled and fought a lot, so he stayed in shape, though he wasn't extremely muscular or fit. but hiking was something else entirely. he was starting to wonder if it was really worth it when he finally reached it. he was winded and way too warm, especially since he was wearing his leather jacket, a long sleeved shirt under that, jeans and boots. not exactly proper hiking attire, but then, he didn't own the right clothes for it.
he stopped to light a cigarette, resting for a few moments to better catch his breath as he puffed away at it. jackson knew the whole thing about smoking being bad for you and what not, but he figured the worst thing he could get was cancer and he already had that, so what did he have to lose? also, smoking helped you relax, which was exactly what he needed. jackson was taking a breather now too, because he didn't want to trigger a seizure. they took a lot out of him, though he never remembered what happened during them. he would just wake up in a sweat, sometimes drooling, and feeling like he hadn't slept in days. his mother had described it to him before, though. so he had a general idea of what it did to him. they weren't really the mild ones. no, he thrashed around, sometimes causing injury to himself, before his mother could put the proper restraints on him. the doctor had told them that he should never be on his own, but when did jackson ever follow orders?
jackson started walking again, not getting very far before he noticed a girl. she looked familiar to him, but he couldn't remember her name, though he knew he had to have seen her at school. he stood there quietly for a few minutes, looking her over. of course, her back was to him, but he was liking her looks even from behind. jackson saw that she was reading, not really caring what it was. he wasn't a fan of books, school or not. he just didn't like reading. it bored him, honestly. he took another puff off his cigarette before walking up closer behind her. she was on her stomach, the book laid flat in front of her, her head resting on the palm of her hand. jackson cleared his throat, leaned forward and asked, "do you have a library card?" he kept a straight face, seemingly serious, till he went on. "because i'm checkin you out." a cocky grin taking over his face as he winked at her. jackson knew that pick up lines were corny, but he still liked using them. and they did work on some girls.

Natalie tucked on a few locks of hair as she scanned through the pages. Occasionally she’d flip the page as she finished that section. She was so enthralled in her book she didn’t notice anyone come up behind her. Then again, Natalie was good at blocking out the world. She didn’t get along with most people just because she wasn’t on the same level as them. There were some people at school who had the same thought process as her which was nice. Still, she didn’t get to socialize outside of school, church and other volunteer work often. Which is what made her the loner that she is. Not that Natalie cared terribly so. She did enough to fill her time and keep herself busy so she didn’t really feel lonely. At least until the night came and she sat and thought about things.
When she heard the voice above her, she pushed her hair back and out of her face before looking up. One brow went up quizzically as he ended his cheesy line. No, she didn’t really get hit on but in her True Love Waits group, they did exercises to deal with certain situations like this. So she knew plenty of cheesy lines. It made her shift around uncomfortably. She kept herself on her stomach as one hand marked her page while the other crossed to rest on her arm. ”Does that actually work for you?” Her tone wasn’t really harsh or anything like that more confused. She kept it low, soft. Natalie wasn’t one who had a harsh tone very often. She gave him and up and down glance. Not the usual people she hung out with. Just the opposite actually. Still, she wasn’t one to judge.
Since she came her to be on her own, she had no qualms about turning her attention back to her book. She moved to rest her head back in her hand, keeping her face turned away from him while she went back to her book. Natalie wasn’t trying to be rude just he made her uncomfortable and she came here to find some peace. The leap was a large enough place that they could coexist in the same area without disturbing one another. Especially since he smoked and that was one smell she really hated.

jackson didn't have a lot of hobbies. in fact, he hardly had any at all. he liked fighting, partying, smoking and drinking. none of those really fell into the 'hobbies' category, though. so, actually, he didn't have any at all. which didn't really bother him. a normal day for him was getting up about five minutes before he was supposed to be at school, get dressed, eat something, have a cigarette, finally leave for school, try sneaking into class but get a card anyway for being late. the rest of the day was spent sitting through one boring class after another, entertaining himself by passing notes and being as disruptive as he could the entire time, which sometimes earned him a trip to the principle, and even detention. jackson actually preferred that, because at least he wouldn't have to listen to someone talk or be forced to read something boring. after school he'd head home to an empty house, since his mom would still be at work. he'd have a drink or another smoke, sometimes both, and lay on the couch watching tv. then he'd either have a girl over, or go to a party. jackson usually got home late whenever he went out, so his mom was used to it by now. the only thing she hated was when he came home drunk, but she never did anything about it. his normal time to get to bed was two in the morning, and then everything would start again. unless it was the weekend. in that case, he got up at nine or ten then spent the rest of the day hanging out with his friends, and the evening on into the wee hours of the morning partying or getting into some sort of trouble. some life.
of course, that was assuming he didn't have a seizure. those took the life out of him pretty much. so if he had one, he was in for the whole day, or close to it. and then there were the treatments he had to start going back to. those happened once a month. jackson hoped he wouldn't lose all his hair again, since he preferred that people didn't know about it. well, if it happened, he could always say he just decided to shave his head. why was it such a big deal for people to not know? well, jackson didn't like to be thought of as weak. so if it was common knowledge that he had brain cancer, that'd be all people would think about every time they saw him, and he'd hate that. so far, he'd managed to keep it a secret from the people in hope harbor, but it was only a matter of time before he'd have a seizure at school or something, and then everyone would know. he wasn't looking forward to that at all.
once jackson saw her face, he realized who it was. that church girl or whatever, though he couldn't remember her name. he'd been curious about her for a while now, but had never taken the time to talk to her. she was beautiful, though somewhat of an odd duck. she didn't talk or dress like the other girls, and seemed to spend a lot of her time alone, or with people who dressed and acted like her. jackson assumed they were friends from her church or something. he found it both interesting and entertaining, since he didn't believe any of that stuff. he was pretty sure he had control of his own life and could do what he wanted. plus, he didn't like the idea of being accountable to anybody. of course, jackson didn't know what she believed, but he'd heard religious stuff before, and it all sounded the same to him.
jackson could tell when a girl was uncomfortable around him, and she certainly was. he laughed at her response, undaunted, though he knew she wasn't interested. at least, not yet. but he was confident in his abilities with the opposite sex. though, even he failed at times. "yes, it does," he replied, not taking his eyes off her as he took another puff off his cigarette, watching as she studied him for a moment. jackson wondered what she thought of him, figuring it wasn't something positive, but also not really caring. "on most girls, anyways. but you're not most girls, are you?" he questioned, a smile still playing at the corners of his mouth. he glanced towards the waterfall, supposing it was pretty, though jackson wasn't the type to really care about that sort of thing. a pretty girl was a different matter, though. which was exactly what she was.
he had to grin when she returned to her book, ignoring him now. jackson was only encouraged by that sort of behavior, however. he moved closer, placing the cigarette in his mouth and inhaling. he leaned over, his head practically next to hers, as he pretended that he actually wanted to know what she was reading. "what's this?" jackson asked, the smoke coming awfully close to her face as he exhaled. he picked the book up, closing it has he read the cover. "you actually like reading?" he had a hard time understanding the fact that people actually read outside of school work, like there was actually something interesting about a book. jackson stood up all the way, placing the cigarette back in his mouth as he paged through it. "i admit, i don't get it," he said, in mock apologetics, tossing the book back down to her.

To say Natalie was anti-social was only part of things. It was something she chose. She knew how this town worked. Saying one wrong thing and it could be completely misconstrued. Natalie never wanted to risk anything. That and she was devoted to her faith and leading a good, Christian life. Not all of that had to do with her father either. She had seen preacher’s kids who rebelled. Actually, she had seen that happen more often then not. Not Natalie. She was the one who still tried to live the good life. She knew not everyone was perfect and would sin but she could still live as God wanted her to as much as possible. Not everyone saw her side of things, which is part of the rumors that did spread about her. Some wondered if it was an act. Others wondered if her daddy maybe did things he shouldn’t, causing her to be this way. What about drugs? Yes, that was one theory as well. Another was she had an abortion. She had heard them all but just ignored them. That was the only way to deal with it.
Natalie wasn’t one to cop an attitude with anyone, even a creep with cheesy lines. So with that Natalie continued to scan the lines on the page while she counted to twenty-five in her head. Once she felt alright enough she nodded her head as she answered, ”No, I’m not. I do have some morals.” Ok, so it wasn’t entirely sweet but it was true. She may not be super popular but rumors still traveled around the school. People were still skeezy enough to write things on bathroom walls and then there was always the internet. It’s why she was glad she flew under the radar. Yes, there were rumors about her but not as terrible as the rumors about other girls. She was very aware of what was said about her but chose to ignore it. There was no reason for Natalie to feed into it.
When the guy came to her face, Natalie screwed her face up in disgust. ”Ugh! Get away from me!” She pulled away from him as she waved her hand in front of her face, coughing. The caused her to pull away from her book, giving him an opportunity to take it. Natalie pushed herself up so first she was sitting then standing. ”It’s Les Misérables. A classic, something I’m sure you’ve never read.” Her face screwed upwards in annoyance. She hated having to deal with people like this-ones who didn’t care what others thought, even if it meant trespassing around on other people’s emotions. A grunt left Natalie’s lips as tension filled her jaw. ”Yes, I like to read. It’s better then dealing with the creeps in the real world.” She tried to reach for her book but it was already headed back to the ground. Natalie reached down for it, kneeling. She grasped at it and tossed it in her bag. That book had been her mother’s-a treasure to Natalie.
Her head shook from side to side. ”Being a jerk doesn’t always work. Just because not everyone prefers to flounce around without a care in the world doesn’t mean you get to act like this. Some people actually care about other things besides video games, the computer, parties and sex.” Natalie put her bag over her shoudler. There was another part of the leap that was partially hidden she could go to. She didn’t want to go home yet nor was there anyplace else she wanted to go. The only other place Natalie could end up was the park. Her pale hands grabbed her blanket and folded it, draping the fabric over her arm. ”You are welcome to do whatever you wish here. I’ll leave you be.” Natalie had no issues being the bigger person and walking away. She turned on her heel, and marched to the left of where she had been standing. There was a trail that led around the curve of the leap to the opposite end, one part that had a group of trees that provided shading. It was the perfect hiding spot. Some people may be scared of being someplace so isolated but Natalie grew up in Hope Harbor. She new it was safe and wasn’t worried at all.

jackson didn't like to spend a lot of time alone. maybe because it left him too much time to think about things he really didn't want to. though he didn't show it, jackson's cancer coming back was a big blow to him. he definitely hadn't expected it, thinking it was gone for good. he rarely, if ever, showed his weaker side, though, so he hadn't voiced his real feelings about it to anyone. from the way he acted his sisters and mom, the only ones who knew it was back, thought he was completely unconcerned about it. they were, of course. especially his sisters. and if his cousins had known, they'd probably be extremely worried as well. which was exactly why he hadn't told them. jackson had even made his sisters and mom promise to not say a word about it to anyone. treatments were going well, plus, this form of it was rarely fatal.
he'd heard plenty of things about the 'church girl' as most referred to her as. jackson didn't really believe most of it, though he sometimes wondered if any of it was true. she interested him, not only because she was a looker, but because the whole innocent girl thing attracted him. jackson wanted to be the first to taint her, like it was some sort of prize. he wasn't a very nice guy, in that respect. well, in nearly everything about him. sure, he had a few good qualities, but they were very few. loyalty was one of them. jackson would stand up for his family and closest friends if anyone dared say anything against them. he could handle it better if someone insulted him, even though he'd still beat the crap out of them, but if it were against family, well, whoever said it would no doubt wind up in the hospital. it wouldn't be the first time jackson had done such a thing.
jackson watched her, wondering when she was going to answer him. she was definitely odd. he would have said something, but he wanted to see what she'd say. he guessed she'd been silent for nearly thirty seconds, if not longer, when she finally spoke. "that's not what i heard.." he stated, a slight smile on his face. jackson didn't think most of them were true, but he wanted to see what she'd say. he had no doubt she knew all about them, since rumors always made it to the ears of the person they were being spread about eventually. jackson wondered, briefly, why she never said a word in her own defense, knowing that he'd do just the opposite if it were him. in fact, when he caught people spreading rumors about him, he usually ended up in dentition for starting a fight.
he laughed out loud as she told him to get away from her, snatching the book as he pulled away. "ahh, so that's how you say it." he never would have guessed. jackson shook his head at her statement. "nope. never have, never will," he replied, in a dismissive tone. even talking about books was boring, especially when they could be talking about more important things. jackson could safely say he'd never seen her so annoyed. it was a bit flattering for him, since he enjoyed this sort of thing. he shrugged as she spoke again. "happy endings are a bit unrealistic. get used to the real world, sweetheart," he told her, winking. jackson tried to sneak a peek at some cleavage, but, to his disappointment she was too well covered up. he was hoping to change that, though.
jackson raised an eyebrow, but remained silent at her little speech. he tried not to laugh as she went on, finding it very entertaining. he fained surprise as she finished. "what would daddy say if he were here?" he asked, still in 'shock' as he referred to her saying the word 'sex'. "and i do care about more than that," jackson added, sounding offended, though he was really enjoying himself. "in fact, i really don't care about video games and computers." he did care about parties and sex, though, of course. but he figured she already knew that. anyone who looked at him probably knew that.
his cigarette was nearly finished by now, so he tossed it over the edge. jackson watched as she picked up her things, knowing she wanted nothing more to do with him. he grinned as she informed him that he could do whatever he wanted. "why thank you," he replied, bowing to her. "here i thought you owned the place." jackson watched her walked off, waited a few moments, then followed her at a slower place. once reaching the new spot, he continued talking to her, as if she hadn't just dismissed him. "i always figured pastor's kids weren't like the rest of us. you know, perfect little angels who never make mistakes." jackson knew that was bull, but he was trying to get a rise out of her again. "aren't you afraid of bringing the 'wrath of God' on you, or something?" he asked, barely able to keep from laughing at his own words. he may have been joking mostly, but he thought of religious people as delusional goodie two shoes, who thought they were better than everyone else.

Natalie shook her head. Of course he was one who listened to the rumor mill. Maybe even believed it. Natalie never got along with those type of people. She tried, just to get by since they all went to school together and lived I n the same town but it was hard. ”Well, you’ve heard wrong.” And that was all she had to say in response. There was never any reason to try to argue back. Some people just didn’t want to be reasoned with. And others, when you tried to abolish things being said about you, just twisted the words and said something even worse. Over the years she had learned to bite her tongue with many a things. Such as when people said things about her father. He was a man of faith so of course many people thought that maybe he did many things he shouldn’t. The most outrageous thing he does is go to the prison out of town for a couple days a month to counsel some inmates with a fellow pastor. That is it. Everything else was laid out for the whole town to see. Just like with Natalie. She never had anything to hide.
”It’s French. Don’t you take a language at school?” They were supposed to but not like she knew Jackson very well or, actually, at all. For all she knew he could have tested out or just skipped classes. Or he could even be younger then her. There were many days she just tried to get through her classes. Air blew in and out of her nose gently, a way to keep herself calm. ”I didn’t say I believed in happy endings. I know very well how cruel life can be. Just reading is a great way to deter unwanted conversationalists.” Usually it worked but for some reason, today it did not. Most of the time if someone say her with a classic such as this and talked to her, they were ones with a mind worth digging into. Not someone who tossed other people’s property about like it was nothing.
Natalie held onto her book, the knuckles going slightly white as she clenched onto it. It had been a real long time since someone got under her skin like this. This was proving hard not to snap. Still, she did everything she could to keep a level head. A smirk played on her lips. ”He’d actually be proud I’m stating what I believe in. Not enough people care about the things that once did anymore.” While she gathered her things, she just ignored everything else he had to say. It was of no consequence to her. Even when he mocked her for stating she would leave him alone, Natalie just counted in her head to keep calm while she started to walk away. Once in her new spot, she laid the blanket out as she did before and then tossed her bag on top of it. While she stood her fingers flipped through the pages, trying to find where she had left off before she had been so rudely interrupted.
That was a useless movement as Jackson made her jump when he came up to where she was now. A grunt left her lips as she pressed her book to her head, trying to figure out a way to deal with him. ”That hypothesis is flawed. No one is perfect, not even the son or daughter of a pastor. I just keep on as proper of a path as possible and ask for forgiveness when I stray.” No, Natalie was not perfect. She sometimes lost her temper, misspoke or didn’t do exactly as asked. But, still, to many standards she was a Mary Sue kind of girl. A lot of that wasn’t just because she wanted to be left alone. Much of it also had to do with the fact she didn’t hang out with anyone who didn’t go to her church or youth group. There was no other exposure to other things besides what she knew. After gazing at him a moment, she turned away and collapsed on the ground cross legged, opening her book and laying it in her lap. ”Now, if you would be so kind, would you please just leave me be? I’d like to read without disruption.” A hand held down her book firmly while she went back to scanning the words before her.

Post by JACKSON XAVIER FORD on Feb 4, 2013 14:23:44 GMT -5
jackson soon found out that natalie wasn't one for talking a lot. she said all that was needed, and no more. he didn't mind; it just added to the oddity of who she was, and that intrigued him. it was safe to assumed he'd never met anyone quite like her. "maybe.. maybe not," he replied with a wink. well, anyone could tell by looking at the girl that she had good morals. jackson was only trying to see what kind of a rise he could get out of her. he enjoyed doing that to people, especially girls. they could be such easy targets. would she be one of those? he realized that he didn't even know her name, and she didn't know his. names weren't all that important, of course; at least in his book. but that didn't make him any less curious.
he nodded. "yeah, spanish or something." jackson didn't really care. he had no desire to learn a different language. what was the point? it wasn't like he'd ever go anywhere that it was needed, and if he met someone who didn't speak english, well then, he obviously wouldn't bother trying to talk to them. unless it was some hot chick, but he didn't think words would be necessary, in that case. as far as spanish class, he missed half of them, and never studied at home, so he was failing the class. that sort of thing never really bothered jackson. "do you?" he asked, obviously curious as to what she was referring to by that comment. the last bit was obviously in reference to him, but he chose to ignore that.
jackson could see her knuckles turning white as she clenched her book. so pastor's kids weren't perfect little angels. he smiled slightly as he studied her face, knowing that he was getting to be a bit too much for her. even so, her reply was calm. jackson had to hand it to her in the self control department. he certainly had none of that, nor did he care to fix that problem. in his mind, that was just who he was. why change? everyone was different, everyone had weaknesses and faults. it was part of life, and there was no changing that. "very true," he agreed, nodding. though his definition of what people should care about was probably quite a bit different than hers. jackson had to grin when she chose to completely ignore what he was saying, as well as his presence.
he had to laugh at the way she talked. jackson was pretty sure she never used any slang whatsoever. "i'm sorry, it's just.. funny. the way you talk. so 'proper'," saying 'proper' with somewhat of an english accent. he wasn't one for big words; not because he was stupid, but because he didn't take the time to educate himself. if jackson had cared about school, he would probably get near straight a's. but as it was, he'd be lucky if he graduated. "so, what does that make me?" he asked, suppressing a smile. he was no doubt a bad guy in her book. though, he was wrong about one thing. she didn't think of herself as perfect. she was, however, a bit of a goodie two shoes, in his opinion.
there it was again! 'if you would be so kind', 'without disruption'; it was genuinely amusing to him. "well, i'm sorry to say i am not 'so kind'," mocking her proper tone, "and, i'm not sure if i can help not being 'disruptive'." jackson paused, looking at the scenery for a few moments. "aren't you even a little bit curious as to what my name is?" he asked, finding himself more impatient to find out what hers was. honestly, he wanted to know everything about this girl. jackson moved closer to her, then sat beside and slightly behind her, making it possible for him to 'read' over natalie's shoulder. he feigned interest, not saying a word, but definitely intruding upon her personal space. he would glance at her from time to time, becoming more attracted to her. jackson was all about looks, and she was looking pretty hot to him, especially when she was annoyed.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=style, background-color:#f4f4f4; width:400px; padding:8px; border: 8px solid #9b6464;] she‘s had all she can take SOMETHING’S GOTTA MAKE ME FEEL ALIVE. I DON‘T KNOW WHERE IT IS BUT SOMETHING‘S GOTTA GIVE
Natalie didn’t like it when people assumed things about her. It made her very angry. Still, she had found ways to deal with her anger. Reading and doing crafts were a lot of it. She knew a lot of people who lashed out and took their violence out elsewhere. Natalie never raised her hand to anyone. When she was younger her and her parents used to wrestle around and she’d play chase with kids, tackling one another. That was the extent of any violence she partook in. and she never intentionally instigated a bully who could potentially cause her harm so she never had to defend herself. Natalie always flew under the radar and that’s how she liked it. A few breaths were taken in as she looked at Jackson once more. ”Believe what you wish.”
When he seemed to accuse her of not knowing how cruel life could really be, her body visibly flinched. When her mother had died in a car accident, her and her father had been a part of it. They were T-Boned on the drivers side. Her mother had been driving while Natalie had sat behind her father. Natalie remembered her mother’s last moments despite them no longer haunting her dreams. One didn’t forget the moment their mother died in front of them, especially when you were nine years old. Her voice got soft while her head turned to look at the water flowing away from the small pool of water. ”Yes, I do.” If she knew Jackson’s story she’d know it wasn’t as cruel as a life he had led. But, for her life, that was a cruel twist that fate had given her. The rest of her life might seem pretty perfect to the outside world but when she stopped and thought about that moment in time, everything shattered around her once more.
Natalie usually wasn’t one to pretend someone didn’t exist. Sure, if they were really teasing her then she would as she walked away. Or if a guy thought that maybe the rumors that she wasn’t a perfect pastor’s daughter were true she’d have to push them away. Some got the hint. Ok, most usually did. No guy really liked a prude unless he was intent on taking her virginity away. Some thought it might be worth the effort but when she didn’t flirt back nor seem interested, they quickly walked away. Of course that also sparked other rumors though those were put out as she also turned down girls at the school. If Natalie was she wouldn’t know. She hadn’t been attracted to anyone at all. There were minor crushes here and there on a guy but Natalie usually ignored those feelings. She was very good at that.
Natalie couldn’t help but let her eyes roll while her head shook at the boy. Yes, boy. Not man. ”People tend to respect you more when you don’t talk like someone glued to the screen all day. I prefer to be treated like an adult, not a child.” Natalie could usually carry her own when talking to people much older then her, such as her father’s friends. Of course many ignored her, thinking her too young for their conversations, but there were rare times when she was given the opportunity to prove them wrong. Even something that most teenagers didn’t care about such as politics were a topic she could go on about for a long period of time. If permitted that is. Something she was studying in school and religion was another one. ”It makes you lost. You obviously don’t know have faith is something other then the things that make you temporarily happy instead of bringing you constant peace. It’s how I deal with even the smallest things that upset me-faith.” Not everyone had to believe in God. She knew people who had faith that there was a higher power at work and just led a good life. Or ones who did all they could to be good just for themselves, not someone they didn’t believe in.
As Natalie sat reading, she came to accept the fact that he wouldn’t leave and she hadn’t been here long enough to want to leave herself.. She figured he’d eventually leave her alone if she either ignored him or bored him the boring information she knew. That worked on some people who bothered her. While she continued to scan the text, Natalie’s head shook from side to side before speaking. ”I’m only curious if you plan to leave me along after telling me.” A rather off barter but if it got him to leave her alone to read then she would be happy.
