For a little over a month, she had been sick on and off, exhausted and just generally rundown. There were several bugs going around the restaurant and the school so it wasn’t surprising. Her system was all out of whack since she stopped the hormones back in September. Thankfully Daniel didn’t care that she had been sick because she rested better at his place. Of course that also brought up the discussion of her moving in since she stayed there more often but it was weird. Leila was still adjusting to “his world” as she often referred to it. His lifestyle was on a completely different level then what she was used to. She wanted to be able to contribute with bills and other such things equally but it’d be difficult until she could devote more time to working. In a week she’d take her finals and get her diploma from high school after way too much time. Then she’d be starting college in January. Hopefully she could shake this bug before school started. College would be way harder then high school.
Well, after she had slept a good eleven hours, Leila had peeled herself from Daniel’s bed and took a hot shower-really hot. She always felt a little chilly so anything to fight that felt nice. She threw on some jeans she had there along with a ribbed tank then a sweater over it. After socks were on her feet, she did a minimal amount of make-up and put her bracelet back on, ready to go grab something to eat. There was already some eggs, toast, bacon and hash browns made which Leila only picked at. Her stomach still felt queasy so everything she ate was the bare minimum to get by. Daniel kept insisting she eat more but Leila snapped at him, tired of hearing from people about how she wasn’t eating enough or drinking enough or sleeping enough. Everything was on her back about one thing or another lately and she was getting really sick of it. He told her he was only looking out for her but that made it worse. Not wanting to continue that argument, she put her jacket and boots on then went to her car. She peeled out of his driveway after she threw her purse in the passenger seat.
Leila got to the main road a little over a half hour before the parade was supposed to start. Watching the parade was sort of her and Nicholas’ thing to do. She usually had something special she did with each of her brothers if, you know, they were still into it. She almost had to cancel today but since she wasn’t throwing up she decided to come. She had a stash of bottle waters in her trunk which she now carried everywhere. It was about the only thing she could drink along with the occasional Coca Cola and tea. When she went around to get one, she realized she was still really cold. One of Daniel’s hoodies was in the back. Despite being mad, she needed to be warm. Leila slipped her jacket on and slipped the grey zipper hoodie on then her jacket went over it. She didn’t feel like carrying her purse so she grabbed some cash, her phone and ID then put her purse in the trunk when she grabbed a water.
Leila took a sip of water as she started to walk down the road. She was a little early so she decided to find a spot for her and Nicholas to sit before he got here. There was a bit of fence the people weren’t occupying. Leila sat down on the ground in front of it before she sent a text to her older brother about where to find her. She couldn’t wait to check out the booths after the parade was done. Leila was craving some fudge. Sucking it up, she sent a text to Daniel apologizing as well. She had been a lot grouchier with everything going on. That didn’t mean he needed to get the brunt of it.

[/div] AND IGNITE YOUR BONES - - - - AND I WILL TRY TO FIX YOU The meeting with Peyton hadn’t exactly gone as he had planned, there was something about the way she refused to believe him that infuriated Nick, but then again, he wouldn’t have believed himself either if not for the proof he obviously had in the folder he’d left her. He hadn’t risked sending it to her over email because, technically, he wasn’t supposed to know this either, but he figured that she needed to know what her brother was up to even if he wasn’t at home, since he guessed they could still be pretty close and talking and whatnot. But he’d promised Leila that they would watch the parade together like they used to do, so now he was walking at a fast pace to make sure he’d get there on time and meet up with his sister. He loved being back at Hope Harbor, this was one place where he didn’t have to actually think much about and it all seemed to fall precisely where it should regardless of what happened, though he knew about the recent ... well, shenanigans it would seem to be. He wasn’t sure how he felt about it really, knowing that something was up in the town, having just returned here himself from being away on excuse of studying, which seemed to be a good enough one, but that didn’t account for the many times he’d missed this parade while away. He’d dreamt about coming home on this day all the long winters of spending it away from home and studying for his exams, something he’d taken up seriously after he figured he needed to pull himself together. The criminal record would never actually be erased but he was now working for the good guys, and so when the spot opened here at home for a forensic? He’d jumped at the prospect and applied, and it definitely helped that he was a native and knew this parts like the back of his hand. It was definitely a good thing to be able to walk through the known streets again and not worry overly much over whether or not he was dressed to impress since he really didn’t need to care after all. The big cities were all about making sure you gave off the right impression. Hope Harbor? Not so much, and he loved it just because it didn’t ask him to be someone else but himself.
Two small kids bumped past him as they ran in the direction he was headed as well, and it made him laugh softly. This was what he’d longed for all those semesters away, knowing that even though you were home you could still get run over by a kid running to get to his destination. He mused to himself as he walked, shaking his head and checking his phone to make sure this playdate with Leila was still on. His sister hadn’t been feeling well lately, and Nick felt for her, he really did, so initially when she’d suggested this he’d been a little bit worried that it would take too much out of her and had actually suggested they cancel. That hadn’t gone over so well, obviously, though he did have to grin at the thought of how well Leila seemed to be doing with four brothers in the house. Then again one had to be tough if you wanted to survive in that particular situation. He spotted her sitting on the bench when he rounded a corner and finally lined up with the main street down which the parade would come, and he slowed his walk down, opening his jacket because he’d gotten a little bit warm while doing his little Nordic walk in this direction. He loved walking and running in general, plus he kind of had a feeling that driving up to this location would have been a disaster what with the parade almost ready to start and all that. So instead he’d left the car at the Inn where he’d been previously, and walked. He saw that his sister seemed to be bundled up in a hoodie and he reminded himself that she was a little on the colder side in that aspect. The hoodie looked like one that belonged to her boyfriend, but who was he to judge? Besides, he thought Daniel was a good guy and good for her anyway. Seeing she was on the phone, Nick grinned and snuck closer until he was right behind her. Trouble in paradise or just sending a message to be beamed out of here? he asked, holding on to the back of the bench as he bent to have his face at her height with a grin, before he quickly pecked her cheek, Hey sis. You feeling okay? His blue eyes assessed her, but apart from looking a little bit pale in general and just generally cold, she seemed okay enough. Nick wouldn’t know until she told him though, but he was pretty sure that she wouldn’t have come out to see the parade with him if she hadn’t felt well enough to begin with. tagged .

Especially when she kept telling Daniel no to moving in on a permanent basis. This whole situation was bit confusing. Things only got worse when Daniel came home with “surprises”. Still, his place was often better for her. Then there was the negative aspect that it took away from seeing her brothers as they came home. Nicholas had been home for awhile but where she had been sick she hadn’t seen him that much. Mark would also be home soon and she hadn’t seen him since he came home for a few days that summer. Leila missed them a lot when they weren’t home. Maybe it was because she was a girl but whenever they were reunited she couldn’t help getting emotional. When with Daniel she often had breakdowns to him about how she wished they could all be home again. At least for Christmas they would be which seemed to make Daniel very happy. He kept saying he had a special gift planned for the whole family. Whatever it was she had no part in as he kept her out of the loop. The only thing she helped with were picking out gifts for everyone individually. They had gotten a joint gift for each member but then Leila and Daniel also got individual gifts to give. Leila was beginning to wonder if he even had any gift ideas left for her with everything he kept giving her.
Leila was glad that Daniel wasn’t still mad at her. Though, he kept asking her if anything else was going on. She knew what he meant and she told him for the last time no as she already made sure of that. Still, Daniel seemed to think she was and it was annoying. All she needed was a good three or four days of straight rest then she’d be fine. Not wanting to blow up again, she changed the subject asking about his plans. It was a good distraction until her brother could get here. That and watching how excited everyone was providing the perfect entertainment. When he finally arrived, Leila looked up from her phone and smiled weakly. ”Not really trouble but you know me-I have dad’s short fuse.” She put her phone away, intent to focus on spending her time with Nicholas. The two of them had been apart for too long. Or, it seemed that way to her. Even if a brother pushed her away, Leila cared deeply for them. They had all looked out for her over the years, especially when her issues began to pick up. They kept her secret and were there when she had a breakdown. And now-and she hated asking this of them-but they were also keeping it from Daniel. She just wasn’t ready to tell him yet. She was so happy with him and she didn’t want to ruin that yet. Well, ruin it anymore then Leila was with her intense grouchiness.
Leila leaned in when Nicholas pressed a kiss to her cheek. She knew she look liked hell had warmed over her but she still hated when people asked her if she was ok. She frowned as she drew in a couple deep breathes. She didn’t want to do this with Nicholas right now. ”Yeah, just feeling a little off. I haven’t been sleeping much between working, finishing up my diploma and getting everything ready to start college in a month.” Welcome to being an adult. Leila rubbed at her arms, unable to get warm even through the four layers. She couldn’t wait to curl back under the blankets later. Until her exams were done, she had cut back on her hours at work so she didn’t have to go in today. That was a relief because once at either her house or Daniel’s, she just wanted to curl up for the rest of the day. Leila looked up and down the road before she leaned her head on her brother’s shoulder, her eyes shutting. ”Sorry I haven’t been home. What’ve you been up to the last few days?” She knew she’d get to spend more time with him if she was home but she couldn’t stand the noise right now. Him, Alex, David, Sophie, their parents and sometimes Jackson was too much noise. Please Mark would be coming home soon which would be even more chaos. Her head was throbbing on a daily basis and she didn’t want to have to take anymore aspirin then she already was.
”So I need your help. Alex and Daniel still seem tense around one another. Will you please try to convince them into a boys night? Een if you have to trick them.” Leila sat back up and looked at him with pleading eyes. She really wasn’t sure what Alex had told Nicholas about how everything had gone down with the falling out. She had to assume he didn’t know that much because he had yet to try to punch Daniel. And Leila knew her brothers-especially her older ones. If they knew how Alex had caught them, they would not be as ok with them dating as they were coming off. ”Alex says nothing is wrong but I really need them to get along again. For my sake.” She batted her lashes innocently upwards at him though she wasn’t sure how well that effect would come off. She was pretty pale except for a flush to her cheeks. There was a cold sweat on the back of her neck which some of her hair clung to that escaped from her ponytail. Leila knew she should avoid work knowing she felt and looked this bad but she had no choice. She had medical bills and school to pay for. Daniel was constantly offering to help her pay and she knew he could with the gifts he gave her but that just added to the irritation she already had going on. She had yet to really wear much of what he had gotten her because it was just too dressy to wear with her normal clothing style. But he was trying to help there as well. If he noticed that she had to get rid of something he’d offer to buy her something else. Leila often refused but that didn’t mean it stopped him. Ever. That added to some disagreements but usually Daniel had his ways of ending those quickly. Except for lately. She had been so sick Leila wasn’t up to his powers of persuasion and she made that clearly known.

While Nick missed being with Leila on a much more permanent basis, he understood that things changed and that they couldn’t really be the same anymore as they had been when they’d been little and turning the house upside down with their antics and pranks in general. He did, however, miss knowing what was going on, and he had the sense that he was basically tossed out of the loop ever since coming back from university, like Alex knew a lot more than he did about some things, something that bugged him to no end from time to time, not that he was about to say anything about it or make a comment that could potentially bring about a fight in the family. Wasn’t he a brother too? Wasn’t he a family member? What was the need for all this secrecy? He’d always kept secrets, especially when it came to their baby sister, and he didn’t see any point in keeping him away from what was going on right now, though given the fact he’d been trained to see things when they were out of place or order, well, he was piecing stuff together but that didn’t mean he was getting any better at figuring it all out. Obviously things weren’t entirely well with Daniel and Alex, though he couldn’t quite understand why, personally while he was at it he didn’t see any problem with his older brother’s best friend dating their sister, at least they knew the guy inside out and knew he wasn’t just a random jerk she picked up from the streets. But then again mentioning that to his older brother might not have been the best of ideas, something he’d figured early on after coming home recently, and so he was quietly waiting on the sidelines, on the bench so to speak, to be allowed back into the family game and see whether or not he could help with anything. He sometimes had a feeling like there would be someone wanting to punch him if he was nice to Daniel or that maybe it was expected of him to play the tough brother, but he really saw no point in that. Sure, he’d make it a point to let the other guy know that if he hurt Leila there was going to be some consequence or other, but at the same time Nick had enough faith in his baby sister to know she would probably be the first one to make sure the person who hurt her regretted it, unless it was this mysterious Avery deal they were facing right now it seemed. The whole police station was abuzz with that one, and Nick wasn’t too sure what he’d come home to, possibly not the happiest scenario ever and he didn’t quite know what to think about it.
But he did know that he was glad Leila had asked him to go watch the parade today, because it meant they would get some one-on-one sibling time in, something he would definitely enjoy, and he returned her smile when she answered him, rounding the bench so he could take a seat beside her. He didn’t quite trust the wooden structure to hold if he hoisted himself over the back. Oh don’t I know it, but hey, look on the bright side, at least everyone knows not to mess with you, he responded with a grin, smiling more when she leaned in after he pecked her cheek. It was moments like these when he really appreciated being home, really wished he could have been here earlier, because frankly speaking he had missed his baby sister a whole lot more than he was letting on, though she could probably guess a lot of it. Sometimes, he had a feeling his family members could see right through him if they wanted to, it was kind of annoying, but then again, in a family like theirs, keeping secrets from each other was kind of unproductive. He watched as she breathed in deeply, listening to her response, and shifted to place an arm around her shoulders, Hey, you know I didn’t mean to poke at you. I’m here if you want to talk, you know that, right? But other than that, I’m not here to put you before an inquisitorial squad. If you say so, I believe you. He smiled reassuringly lightly rubbing her shoulder where his hand was resting. His hand rubbed her arm a little more when he saw the way she was repeating the action herself, guessing she was probably chilly. Hey cold one, ever thought about bringing something warm with you? I forgot you don’t really like the cold. His smile remained intact on his face as he watched her. Want me to go get you something? The last thing he wanted was for her to catch an actual cold, now that would so not be cool. He shifted so that she had a better pillow out of his shoulder where she pressed her cheek, lightly adjusting his head to press his own against her hair gently. It’s okay, I understand – how’s Daniel doing by the way? I haven’t actually seen him since I got back. At her question, he rolled his free shoulder, Nothing much, getting adjusted to being at home, and working, though they don’t give me much to do. I still need to pass those two exams before they’ll take me seriously. This morning, I went over to Grand Harbor Inn. THAT one had been pretty impromptu and he wasn’t sure had ended on the best note, but oh well. Her request made him lift his head again as she sat up so he could look at her with an arched eyebrow. Boys night out? I can try, I guess, but yeah, tricking them might have to be something I resort to, or at least with Alex. I swear the guy wants to strangle me every time I ask what’s up with him. He knew something, but not everything, he was sure, no one was actually coming clean about why things were as they were. He was amused when she batted her eyelashes at him though. You’re cute when you do that, sis, but you don’t have to – I get where you’re coming from. Like I said, I can try. What exactly happened to get them to this point though? They’ve always been super close. He eyed her curiously. tagged .

She knew she should appreciate the things he did and what he got her but it was hard. She was used to a completely different way of living. Now Leila just had to get used to Daniel’s way of living and the way he showed her he cared. No one really knew about his little gifts because most of them she didn’t wear them very often. They all stayed tucked away in a jewelry box she had at his house. Which just added onto his reasons as to why she should move in. Leila cracked her neck as she rubed at her shoulder.
Her hand waved around aimlessly between them. It’s not like he knew how she had been lately. Her body shifted closer to his as he put an arm around her. ”Yeah I know you weren’t it’s just been frustrating. Everyone’s been on my case to slow down, eat more, drink more, or sleep more. Then Daniel’s lifestyle is a huge change because he keeps pushing things on me. That on top of him bugging me to move in.” She clamped her mouth shut quickly. This was the first time she had told anyone aside from Reagan. If she told Sydni she knew Jude might find out, even on accident. That would be a disaster because then it could get to Alex. And Alex had to be eased into the idea. As she bit down on her lower lip, it went pale from the pressure. ”Don’t tell anyone. It’s not like I’m considering moving in. He is.” If one took in the number of years Daniel and Leila had known each other, moving in after six months wouldn’t seem too odd. Yes, another argument Daniel made. Fingertips went up to rub at her temple. At least the aspirin was starting to kick in. The headache she woke up with was starting to die down thankfully. The parade seemed like it’d be starting soon enough. It’s not like it was the Macy’s parades so they could multi task. Or at least Leila could.
When he mentioned getting something warm her stomach churned. She was unsure if he meant something to drink or more layers. ”No. Water is my only friend right now. And I’m already wearing a jacket under this sweatshirt plus a sweater and another shirt underneath. I’ll be fine. Now can we move on?” Irritation dripped in her voice. She really didn’t want to fight with Nicholas today. Considering she was still slightly agitated with Daniel she’d probably blow up and take her aggression out on the wrong person. Not being able to really look at him helped. When she looked at someone’s face she got even more irritated with the person. ”Hmmm he’s fine. With all the winter sports he’s been working like crazy. You know seniors wanting to make sure they play in that one game where that one scout will be to get into their dream school. He’s also been at his grandparent’s a lot. They’ve been making adjustments to their will. I don’t even get to see him half the time.”
When Nicholas moved his shoulder, she looked at him with a quizzically look on her face. He had gone to the Inn? Her brows instantly shot up as she pushed some hair out of her face. ”Whoa you went there. Why?” The Scott clan and the Malone’s did not get along and hadn’t for a couple years. Leila and Peyton used to be close but she started to pull away when her condition set in and then after the blow up with their brothers set the path by Peyton pulling away too. Leila wasn’t that heartbroken because she had initiated the whole rift. Then this whole misunderstanding just made things even worse. The whole fact that he even mentioned that made her forget about him needing to take his exams. Sure, she hoped that he passed them but this was pretty big in and of itself. A very weak laugh left her lips as she nodded. ”That is terrible we have to resort to tricking Alex and Daniel. Before they’d be the ones trying to trick us all into something that would just get them all into trouble if anyone found out.” Well, Leila had to figure asking him to try to get Alex and Daniel to talk would probably bring up the question of what had happened. Leila was glad Alex hadn’t told anyone else though she knew she’d have to tell people one day. A noise went through her throat as she cleared it out. ”He’s just not real happy about us being together. We kind of hid it from everyone the first couple of months because we wanted to make sure it’d work first. He didn’t like that very much when he finally did find out about us.” That was pretty much the whole story without giving away the whole caught in the act in the shower aspect. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed the first floats were coming down the way. She adjusted herself so an arm rested on the back of the bench. This allowed her to look forward at the parade as well as turn back towards Nicholas to talk as well.

He watched the way his sister’s lips fell flat one against the other, and he knew the warning signs enough not to poke said bear that she was currently mentioning. The last thing he needed was for her to lose it on him when she was obviously in a pretty good mood so far. Nick did NOT want to be the responsible one for the storm really, and he knew his sister enough to know she could be pretty pissed off when she wanted to be. I totally get you and believe me, I had enough of the bear the last time it attacked me. I’m pretty happy with waving at it and making sure I stay out of its way, trust me. He smiled gently at his sister watching the way she waved her arms around as she explained things to him, he remembered how it used to be when they were younger, she always reminded him of a hummingbird really, the way those little arms would move as fast as she possibly good. She was expressive in that way, to him, and he loved being home and seeing it all again, it made him feel like he’d never left, which was definitely a good feeling all in all. Listening to her speak, Nick wondered what else had he missed while being away and doing his own thing, meaning straightening himself out and pulling himself together after the stunts he’d gone through as a teenager. He sensed that Leila was pretty tense though, he didn’t need to be a wizard to smell that one from a mile away. He rubbed her arm soothingly where he had his own draped around her gently, Yeah well I can’t be much of a judge about everyone else, haven’t been home for that long, but I’m guessing that if more than one person’s telling you that there has to be some truth behind it all, he offered in a complacent voice. He wasn’t trying to rile her up, just talking it out, And I’m sure Daniel doesn’t mean any harm. I’m thinking it might just be a shock to you ... maybe you should tell him to slow down? His suggestions kind of hit a wall when she mentioned moving in with the man though, since Nick hadn’t even known it was that serious by this point, then again he hadn’t actually been home all that long to begin with so he guessed there had to be things he didn’t know about, right?
Move in with him? Already? How long have you two been together again? He wasn’t being judgemental, he was simply curious though, seeing as he didn’t have half the facts right now and it was kind of bugging him, but he knew enough not to poke too hard. If she wanted, she would tell him about it. If not, good enough for him, he’d known he had to go about getting it out of her in a different way. At her request, Nick lifted a hand, Don’t look at me it’s not my secret to tell. Just make sure you tell Alex way before it happens if it happens, or else he might have a whale on the spot. Their oldest brother had apparently inherited the brunt of the Scott temper as well. Nick had learned to somewhat temper it during his stay at university, though it didn’t work all the time, not necessarily. Watching Leila rub her forehead, he angled his head to see her a bit better, Headache? He wished he could do something more for her sometimes, it seemed like he was so helpless when in reality he wasn’t, not really, but given the fact she was pretty independent he didn’t think she’d let him anyway. Her irritation over his concern made that much pretty obvious, but Nick wasn’t in the mood to argue with her today. So he lifted a hand again, Hey, no blood, no foul, I was just being nice. If you say you’re fine I’m cool with it. His smile was easy on his face as he glanced up the street but there were no floats just yet, so they still had time to talk. Sounds like a busy man but then again I remember him always being pretty serious about that stuff, he agreed, smiling a bit more, and I’m pretty sure he’d love seeing you over doing anything else but he kind of needs to take one for the team I guess. He did remember that time she spoke about well, he’d once had similar dreams but those hadn’t quite worked out the way he’d wanted them to, and so he didn’t feel sad about them, just a little melancholy. Her surprise over his morning whereabouts didn’t even surprise him really, no pun intended, because obviously he knew what lay behind it. Yeah, I did, I needed to talk to Peyton, as unbelievable as that might sound. Which hadn’t gone off well enough but it hadn’t ended with one of them killing the other, so there was something to go from there. At least that was what he kept telling himself though the Malone girl irritated him to death sometimes. I agree, it’s sad, especially since the number of times Alex tricked me into getting in trouble is beyond count, guess it’s time to retaliate, but I see your point. We’ll think of something I promise. He gave his sister a reassuring smile as he followed her gaze to where the first floats were coming down the street and he settled more comfortably against the bench. He felt like he was finally doing something normal, which was saying a lot given his job was pretty abnormal at the end of the day. Well I can see where he’s coming from, I mean, I probably would’ve felt the same way if I were home, but since I haven’t been around it’s kind of moot point, that one, Nick commented with a small sigh, but that being said I also see your point and I think it was a smart move in some ways ... and then since it seems to be backfiring not so smart. But he’ll come around. He’s our brother, after all. He can’t stay mad at you forever anyway. He flashed his sister a bright grin, his blue eyes aligning on the first float as he tried to not have too much of a comical expression on his face. The things got weirder and weirder every single year, he was pretty sure about that one, though it was still pretty and quite beautiful, in a way actually. tagged .

Yes, all her brothers had seen the worse side of her. Especially when she was on her hormones to get some of her eggs gathered. ”Maybe but I really can’t just slow down or take a break. I need to have money to pay for things I need as well as to the storage place for my things.“ Her brows raised to emphasize things, which is what she referred to her eggs in public or to her brothers in general. That was still a weird thing to even think about as a teenager yet alone doing. When she came down for her red phase she would apologize-a lot-but she still felt guilty. Especially as her temper was easily set off lately. Daniel usually didn’t fight back like her brothers. He was sweet about things, trying not to agitate her too much. With her family none of them had issues with getting in one another’s faces. Especially Leila. She liked proving she could stand her own against four brothers. That was important being the only girl. Hey, at least she got her own room. Leila always had that over them.
Leila really wasn’t sure how to tell Nicholas about all the things Daniel was doing that was bugging her. She didn’t want to make Daniel seem frivolous when that wasn’t it at all. Truthfully he had some money to burn just she felt weird about him spending it on her. ”Shock is an understatement,” she uttered under her breath before she continued. ”He just buys me things all the time. Like I get doing something sweet occasionally but it’s all the time. You know me-I rarely ask for much come the holidays or my birthday, if anything at all. He wants to help me out but it’s just hard. Been taking care of myself since I found out everything this just irritates me.” Stupid Alex for telling her about Daniel’s money. That had just made her relationship much more complicated as she wasn’t sure how she fit into the puzzle that was Daniel’s life. He said she did and was perfect for him, the only one for him, but that didn’t make her any less nervous. Leila was a Plain Jane in his life of glamour. Yes, to her it was a life of glamour. Though, she wondered if Nick had known all along too. Alex had known yet somehow she didn’t. With those three boys being close in age, they did often do things together even if Daniel and Alex were closer.
A groan left her lips as she put her head in her hands nodding. ”Yes move in.” Leila’s eyes closed despite being hidden as she spoke into her hands. ”Six months. Though…” One eye peeked from behind her hands as she assed Nicholas. Yes, he was in a decent mood. ”If you want the truth we’ve sort of liked each other for awhile. A long while just neither of us knew the other did so it’s not like it’s that crazy. Just I’m unsure.” Yes, for that moment half hiding behind her hands was the safest bet. ”I actually have stronger feelings for him then my ex I dated for over a year sooooo yeah….” Yes it was best to just let that thought trail off while he processed it. It’s not like it was Daniel saying it so Nicholas couldn’t really get pissed at her, right? Nor anyone else if they knew it was a (one sided) discussion that Leila and Daniel were having. Her brother did have a point in needing to tell Alex first, though. ”Yeah after he cau-erm found out about us when we talked it over I promised that anything major I did with Daniel would be discussed with him before I told the rest of you.” She hated keeping secrets from her family in general but it was safer for everyone if Alex was told ahead of the family and allowed to process things.
”Yeah I get the often now. Nothing really helps. I may go to the doctor if it doesn’t clear up after the holidays.” Once she felt like it was eased up enough, and her irritation had passed she pressed a kiss to her brother’s cheek. ”I know you are. Just, like I said, everyone’s on my case.” Leila paused, her brow furrowing together. ”Do I really look that bad?” That had to be why everyone bugged her. Having a ton of layers wasn’t new for her. Heck, in the summer she used a comforter. Sure a leg was stuck out to keep her from over heating but she felt secure with something wrapped around her. A fond, and proud smile, appeared as they talked about Daniel’s job. ”Yeah he is. Though some days I have to kick him out of his own house. He keeps offering to stay and take care of me.”
In a mocking manner, Leila looked Nicholas up and down. Then she put her hands on his shoulder and pushed at him to look behind him. ”You talked to Peyton and came back in one piece?” Her eyes narrowed with a slight glint in them while a wicked grin appeared. ”If she didn’t cut anything off then she must have shoved something someplace. What was it? You’re not walking funny. Does it need to be surgically extracted?” For a moment her normal humor poked through but just a moment. All her quick movements had made her dizzy, causing her to fall back against the bench. All she did was tighten the grip of her hands on her knees, trying to hide that she had another impairment. A chuckle came from her mouth which helped to hide things. ”Well you don’t have to trick Daniel. He’s eager ot get his friend back.”
Yeah, their mother had told Leila pretty much the same thing. As did a couple of Leila’s friends. And Jude. Oh boy had Jude ripped her a new one. The way he acted it was like he was her big brother! ”It really is not that bad that we hid it. It was smart. Just Alex came over to Daniel’s was I was there and it went form there.” Very vague though she had nearly slipped up earlier and said ‘caught’ instead of ‘found out’. She had recovered as quickly as possible but wasn’t sure if Nicholas had caught on or not. ”Oh he’s not mad at me anymore. We’re good. Just his and Daniel’s friendship is all weird now. I’ve been trying to fix it since I broke it but nothing seems to be working.”

Obviously he knew life wasn’t the easiest for his sister right now, and hadn’t been for a while, so Nick had to remind himself not to push any harder than he already was with any of the issues coming up in their conversation. The last thing he needed or wanted was to get her so riled up she’d explode on the spot. He knew her temper well enough, after all, when you were growing up with five kids in the house you knew each other inside out by the end of everything really. It wasn’t that he was trying to get information out of her either, it was simply him trying to hold conversation ... but he kind of got the hint that maybe this wasn’t the best time and place for it. Yeah, you’re right I guess ... sorry. I’m not in a position to judge you or tell you what to do. And please don’t take this the wrong way or try to bite my head off but ... if you ever need any help ... you know where to find me. His blue eyes aligned on her with a gentle expression, he didn’t want her to feel like he thought she couldn’t do it, Nick was more than impressed with the way his sister was handling things, he just thought sometimes that she worked herself so hard she couldn’t even enjoy everything around her. He wanted to help ... but at the same time knew that if she wouldn’t let him, he had to back off. On the topic of her and Daniel, however, he figured he needed an even bigger measure of caution. Unfortunately his sister seemed to be in a pretty touchy spot right now which didn’t help his curiosity one bit, but if he had to pick between surviving one of Leila’s rages and asking her questions? He’d go for neither and just hope she didn’t choose him for her next target in the red zone. Listening to her speak about the current situation in her relationship, Nick wondered what exactly was the problem, until she explained further, and then the pieces started to fall together. Have you talked to him about it? I mean, the way you’re talking about it to me right now. Again, I’m not trying to piss you off or anything, but it seems to me like you need to tell him to slow down with all the buying, if it irks you. Then again who am I to talk, I don’t really have much experience with these things to begin with. He smiled lightly, though it was true, he hadn’t actually had a steady girlfriend ever since starting university, and even before there had only been passing flings, nothing serious, nothing remotely like what Leila had with Daniel right now, to be sure.
He was a little alarmed when his sister hid her face in her hands, reaching out to lightly place one of his against her shoulder, but it seemed that apart from just trying to explain things, she was okay. Nick was on high alert ever since coming home, since really, he understood that things weren’t the best with her condition right now, which was enough reason for him to make sure she was okay if he was around. Sounds like a big move, sis, he told her quietly, watching as she peeked at him through her fingers. She looked a lot younger than her nineteen years then, which made him smile inwardly, but he watched her calmly as she spoke, knowing that whatever he did was probably not going to be good either way. Listening as she explained though, he had to admit that it was sort of all adding up. Well good to know that all the looks you kept throwing at him whenever you thought no one was looking paid off, he teased her lightly, minorly amused. He’d kind of had a feeling this would be happening for a long time now, but since he had never actually had proof and only guesses, with Daniel being around the Scott house all the time, well, he only needed this confirmation now. Wow sis, that kind of sounds pretty serious to me, he said in a light tone, while he wasn’t exactly pleased it was this serious apparently, he also knew that standing in Leila’s way might not be his best bet right now. Besides, he figured it was better Daniel than someone else they didn’t even know, the man was practically a family member already anyway. And I missed out on that part of your dating history, do I need to be enlightened? His lips quivered in amusement, given this was an ex he didn’t think he had to worry about it. Besides, between Alex’s tantrums and Leila’s temper, Nick was going to try for a middle road. He didn’t fancy having his head rotting off somewhere. Well seems to me like I might have to pretend I didn’t know about this moving in deal, unless you’ve talked to him about it yet? I don’t really feel like getting in a row with him either, I didn’t come home to fight with my family. He sighed, shaking his head, though he nodded when Leila spoke about the visit to the doctor. Sounds like a plan to me, and don’t worry, you can always tell me to hit the curb and stop bugging you. At her question, he lifted his shoulders a little, That bad? No, but you don’t exactly look healthy either, sis. His blue eyes rolled though when she made a show about the Malone deal. Cut it out, it’s not like she’s dangerous or something, he grumbled, amused and annoyed, though smiled since he was happy to see something brightened her up, and Jesus who’s been teaching you to talk like that sis? Honestly, one more like that and you might make me blush. He laughed lightly though. No, I just wanted to give her something, it was about her brother. We used to hang out. Guess I felt like I owed it to her. He shrugged again, a concerned look passing over him when she leaned against the bench, but he didn’t say anything, just waiting for it to pass. He figured she didn’t want to talk about this, so it was safer that way. Tricking Alex might be harder than anything else I ever had to do though, so really, I might need a life insurance policy. He wasn’t quite sure how he was going to go about it, but at the same time, he did agree with Leila that the guys were being absurd. Well, Alex was, in a fashion, but he was a Scott. That was to be expected in a way. Guess it was but I also guess it wouldn’t sit well with Alex in the beginning either way. I mean ... you’re our baby sister, and Daniel’s his best friend. I can see where he’s coming from with this, I think. Nicholas sighed a little though, at the last bit. Leila, it’s not exactly your fault. I mean, you’re just caught in the middle of this. But Alex and Daniel need to sort this out on their own and it really has nothing to do with you in that aspect. It’s a guy thing ... yeah it sounds lame but I honestly can’t give you more than that, and trick Alex into a boys’ night out. tagged .

She wasn’t trying to come off as seeming needy for money or something. She knew her responsibilities now and would take them seriously. ”Nah I’m fine. I know how to get by on my own. Especially being the only girl with all you lame boys around.” Never being a fan of these heavy talks, Leila always used humor to deflect them. Especially since their mother wanted to have them constantly with her. She was always poking around to see where Leila’s thoughts were. Leila hated that with a passion. She was coping with her circumstances in her own way. Why couldn’t anyone just leave her be? Asking her more and more questions about how she was doing wouldn’t change anything. All it did was piss her off. She tried not to snap at their mother so usually she stormed off to her room to be alone until she felt calm enough to reproach the situation.
Leila’s body leaned forward and propped her chin in her hand. She nodded against it as she sighed. ”Yeah I’ve tried. All he tells me is he wants to do it and he’s able to.” All of a sudden her back straightened as she looked at him. ”Did you know about him and his family? Because honestly it was kind of a shock.” Leila wasn’t a gold digger nor did she think the wealthy were snobby just...it made her uncomfortable. Her, Nicholas, their siblings and parents grew up in a modest home. Yes, it was very nice looking but many things were bought discounted and the boys often shared clothing. There were months their family pinched pennies when something unexpected happened but they always got through. That was the life Leila was used to, not one where money was easily disposed of. At his joke of not really having experiences in a relationship, Leila had a moment of perkiness. ”Oh I’ll set you up! I’ll enlist Reagan. We will have tons of fun setting you up with someone.” Wicked thoughts ran through her mind as she laughed lightly. A cough usually came up when she laughed too hard.
When he joked about her looking at Daniel over the years, she twisted her arm so she could pinch at his. ”I was not throwing him looks! He…was just always there. He was unavoidable.” Well, she thought she had hidden her crush well all those years ago. Apparently not. Both Alex and Nicholas knew. That was not good. Her eyes rolled when he mentioned fighting with Alex about this. ”Did you not hear me two minutes ago when I said I’m not considering it. Hence why I don’t want it brought up. I don’t want anyone getting the wrong idea and thinking that I am. If Alex has a problem with me waiting, then we have even bigger issues to work out.” Her nail picked at the edge of Daniels’ sweatshirt as she mulled over her thoughts. Most people could tell that Leila and Daniel were crazy about one another but knowing how serious they were was completely different. Their parents sort of figured the two were pretty serious. One could tell looking at their father because he often had a mixture of joy, pain and anger on his face. Yes, the normal look of a father watching his little girl grow up.
”Oh, yeah Sam. He was a friend, we tried to be a couple but it just didn’t work. Too many complications and we were better friends. He’s moved away since then so no worries there.” Really, that was nothing compared to her relationship with Daniel so she didn’t care so much. Something no longer worth talking about. Now him seeing Peyton was worth talking about. A brow went up when he said she wasn’t dangerous. ”She may not be dangerous to the rest of us but she hates you. None of us are dumb to that.” She completely ignored the bit about her language. He had missed a bit since being gone, including her finding a humorous, vulgar side to herself. ”What did you give her and is it something that will cause her to sneak into the house and try to murder you? If so I call dibs on your car. Mine is a piece of shit.”
Leila watched the first couple floats go by while some people snapped photos. She felt too exhausted to even lift her phone to take a picture. ”Just tell him your going to a strip club. He needs it. I swear all his problems would be solved if he met a girl, even for one night.” Leila had no qualms about teasing her brothers about their dating lives. Though with Alex she had to be cautious because of his ex-fiancée. His situation was a bit more delicate. Every situation involving Alex lately seemed to be delicate. ”I know but it’s not like we’re just screwing around. That’d be completely different and awkward. We actually care about each other, very deeply.” Leila shook her head. What, did people think she should have just kept her feelings to herself? Go round ignoring that she waned to be with Daniel? ”How can they sort it out on their own when they are never alone anymore? Daniel tries but I don’t know if Alex doesn’t want to or is truly that busy. Since the ending of his engagement, you can’t read him at all.” That probably frustrated her just as much about this whole situation. Not just that their friendship was weird now but that she couldn’t tell Alex’s expressions anymore. Either that or she was just really ignorant lately.

Nicholas sighed to himself at her reaction. Sometimes, trying to have a conversation with Leila was like taunting the lion sleeping in its den. She usually understood what her brothers were going for, but sometimes, there were occasions when he had to question that particular thing and wonder whether or not she actually knew they were just trying to look out for her. But again, he didn’t want to pick a fight with her so there was no way he would point out that her being snappy and pissed off at them wasn’t exactly working in her favour half the time. Alright, you know you only have to ask. And pft, who’re you calling lame? I seem to remember quite a few times when a certain Scott girl would end up on the wrong end of a prank. That’s so not lame and you know it. It’s brilliant since you were always on guard so much. If she wanted to joke around then fine with him, he would, he had had enough of serious conversations for one day being back at Grand Harbor Inn with Peyton, the girl had certainly been a surprise and he wasn’t sure what had prompted him initially to go there anyway. He watched her as she leaned forward as they talked about her current situation with Daniel, and he had to admit the man at least was going about things the right way it seemed, he wasn’t actually stealing her away from her family or anything and was doing his best to try and compensate for what he felt would work. Nick admired him for that, Leila wasn’t the easiest person at times, and he knew the guy had to really care for her if he was doing all this to begin with. Well then let him take pleasure in that. Seems to me he’s just trying to find ways to make you happy. At her question though, he frowned slightly, raking his memory to see whether he could dig something up or not. And you lost me there. I can’t remember anything that would relate to that but then again you have to remember I left town after high school plus when I WAS in high school I spent half my time high. So you’ll have to enlighten me on this. He was almost annoyed with himself for bringing the other topic up, though seeing the way she seemed to light up did make him smile and groan in mock-horror, Oh geez. Please don’t set me up the way it happened in senior year. That was a complete disaster. And he also wasn’t sure how it would work, but he’d leave the fun to her honestly.
He laughed when she pinched his arm, shifting it so it wouldn’t be in direct range of her fingers for the time being. Unavoidable my ass. His smile was amused as he watched her, since it was pretty obvious that she really did love Daniel from their conversation so far and Nick wouldn’t actually be having anything against that. So long as she was happy, he was happy. Again, he lifted a hand in surrender, Sounds good by me I’m just putting it out there so you know what can happen, I’m not that out of everything that’s related to the family, luckily, otherwise I’d be totally lost here which sure as heck wouldn’t help me much. His blue eyes went from her to the street and then back. At his question about her ex she happily supplied the information and so Nick nodded, storing it away, I think I would have remembered him if I hadn’t been off in my own little world studying, but I don’t think he was around much when I came to visit. Well so long as you’re friends it’s all good, I guess. Not everyone was suited for everyone so he wouldn’t press the issue further. Mostly because right now it seemed the Inquisition was bearing down on him and he blew air out of his nose loudly. Yeah, I get that, I haven’t forgotten. She was a nasty little critter when we were still in high school and her brother was no different, he was even more messed up than I was. Larsen was a character but remembering the file he’d left at the Inn that morning made Nick want to not talk about it. Impossible, right now. His voice barked out in a laughter as Leila continued speaking and he gave her a mischievous grin. Now that, little sister, is a secret. Thought he sighed a moment later looking ahead. Or well not really in a fashion, but you have to promise not to tell anyone seeing as it was kind of a violation against what I swore to do in my job. He ran a hand through his hair, rolling his eyes, You can’t have my car, period. Get yourself a better one though granted, seeing you with the one you have now is always fun to watch. He shot her a smile, which turned incredulous. You’re serious. Do you honestly want me killed? If I mention a strip club he might actually consider murdering me. I kind of value my life, have I told you this lately? He shook his head, And I get that, I’ll do what I can, within reasonable limits since I still need to go to work the day after without missing a head. I think Alex just needs some more time to figure things you, you can jump to conclusions all you want but he probably needs time the most. Besides, Daniel and he were friends before you came into the picture so they’ll work it out eventually, it’s not like they can be at odds forever. His smile this time was reassuring. I’m sure it’ll all work out. Have a little faith, Leila. tagged .

For a moment she thought she was going to retch again. It turned out to be a false alarm but she took in a sip of water, swigging it around to get the acidic taste out of her mouth. After she rifled in the sweatshirt pocket. Daniel usually kept gum in random places and lucky enough, she found some in this sweatshirt. After taking the paper lined foil off the stick off gum, she pushed it into her mouth. Leila simply sucked on it a moment before she began to chew down on it. She rubbed her hands together, from her wrists downward. ”I know I do.” She paused. ”I’m just enough of a burden on everyone. It’s time for me to do things on my own, you know?” Her parents poured so many resources into her treatments and not just money. Their mother had moved from working full time to part time so she could spend time in the hospital the times Haven went and took her to every treatment. For a good year, her family had pinched pennies and only got by because their father’s parents helped out. Apparently they paid for two-thirds of the mortgage each month until their mother could go back to full time. Now it was her turn to help out while she went to college and pay for her storage herself.
”Hey you had an unfair advantage. Four against one. I think I’ve done very well on my own.” Plus she had the advantage of her own room, especially one that locked. After a mishap where the boys had attempted to scare her when a friend was over. That allowed her to have whatever she needed to be content. A locked door also meant she had more time to plan and execute her own plans to unleash against the Scott boys. Leila never had any issues going head to head against anyone. No different then she was with Daniel now. ”It’s just annoying. If shiny things and money could make everything better I’d be able to have a kid on my own.” Leila couldn’t help but put those words out bitterly. Yes, she would be able to carry a child but more then likely she’d need a lot of hormones and patience. That would be an emotional rollercoaster when she finally had to embark on that journey. She would need a strong person by her side as her husband, one who would be able to handle her break downs if the journey to motherhood didn’t go how she wanted.
Leila nodded. Yes, his troublesome years. His parents eventually found out and then her mother had asked Leila to lock her medications away in a drawer. Leila knew pills weren’t his drug of choice. She trusted him and didn’t treat him different. He needed understanding. Maybe it’s because around the time everything with him started was when her pain started but she didn’t want everyone treating him differently. She knew how awful it was being looked at like something was wrong with her. They gave him that look just it was a look of disappointment. ”Apparently his family has a lot of money. Not that it matters, wouldn’t if I had known before Alex told me. Which Alex only did out of spite.” That’s why she had been upset. Someone else told her when it should have been him. She hated to have things kept from her. Daniel had promised to tell her everything major first but he had sort of failed there. And told his family first that he was really serious with her. Not like he could be perfect. Obviously she wasn’t.
Leila laughed half heartedly. ”Ok that was a disaster but I’m a mature young woman now.” Leila couldn’t even say that with a straight face. ”Ok but Daniel has a cousin. She’s pretty cute.” Haven wiggled her eyebrows playfully. Wow, even that exhausted her along with lifting her arm to pinch at Nicholas. She hated that her brothers had always teased her about having a crush on Daniel. Of course she did back then but she didn’t like them to know that! Guilt stung her when he mentioned not knowing everything. Leila felt bad that she kept certain things from him. Only she knew the extent of Alex leaving his fiancée. and she was keeping from him how Alex had found them having sex but she knew that wouldn’t go over well. Nicholas would be livid. While Alex shut everyone out when mad Nick would get in Daniel’s face. Hopefully he wouldn’t punch him out but she knew plenty of heated words would be exchanged.
She shrugged at the thought of being friends with Sam. Everything was sort of done and that’s how it had to be. Leila got a sour look on her face. ”She wasn’t terrible until you somehow pissed her off. Remember her and I used to be friends.” That whole situation got so muddled up on both ends. When he asked if she could keep a secret she snorted with her laugh. ”I kept my relationship with Daniel from everyone for two months. If Alex hadn’t found out I would’ve kept it that way longer. And I still haven’t told Daniel about my condition. I think I can keep a secret.” It was probably terrible of her to admit keeping something so large secret from Daniel but she was still so afraid to tell him. She’d keep on leaving him in the dark as long as possible. It’s not like they were planning on getting married anytime soon after all despite him showering her with trinkets like they were. She was sure if she told him about all the bills she had to take care of concerning this condition he’d want to help. That’s who Daniel was. He had already offered to fix or replace her car on several occasions.
”Oh he won’t kill you. If not take him to a bar out of town where no one knows him as being a grumpy ass. Seriously he needs to get laid. Then he‘ll stop getting on mine and Daniel‘s case about being in a relationship” Four brothers and a male cousin left her with a pretty big sailors mouth. She knew what Nick was saying just it was hard. She felt responsible. With what he kept saying Leila couldn’t just keep it in any longer. She let out a sigh and flicked her forefinger and thumb together. ”Nick this fight between them is kind of my fault.” Or that’s how she thought. At least they were in public so he couldn’t flip out too much, right? Leila stared at her hand which she turned over to inspect each side. ”Alex didn’t just find out about us. He...caught us.” This was the worlds most awkward conversation for a brother and sister to have. Her neck and cheeks become bright red as she cleared her throat. ”And after I told him that it wasn’t a one time thing but that we had been together two months. He got upset and though he forgave me he’s still...weird around Daniel.” Oh she prayed he didn’t lose it right here. This would not be something good for him to yell at her about in the middle of town.

Nicholas watched his sister worriedly when she pressed her fist to her mouth and wished he could do more to help her, but he knew she wanted to be independent and wanted to do things on her own, which meant he just had to deal with the fact and make sure he didn’t necessarily step in the way while she was doing this. Still, he couldn’t help lightly rubbing her back to try and ease some of her discomfort away while watching her battle with the gum wrap though he sighed softly when she seemed to calm down enough and it was alright, apparently. He really wished he could help her more, but then again, things were as they were and he knew that with her condition she was bound to have ups and downs along the road. It had been a heartbreaking experience to even learn about it to begin with, so he didn’t want to repeat that particular memory, but he was certainly glad that she wasn’t necessarily pushing him away either, it wouldn’t have worked out well for either of them sine Nick was kind of known for pushing his own stubbornness up front when he thought things needed to be done in a certain way. Not always, though, as right now was testimony to the fact that he was pulling back. Yeah, I hear you there, just wanted to let you know, he said with a small, brotherly smile, keeping an arm loosely draped around her shoulders during this part of their conversation. The last thing he wanted was for her to ever feel like she was alone or no one wanted to help. You’re Scott tough though, so you’ll be just fine. He sent her a grin, which only intensified as they reminisced back on their joint past growing up. Nick had to admit that she was making a VERY solid point. Touché, I guess you’re right. You did more than fairly well honestly, I’ve never met anyone who could fight back as dirty as you did. He chuckled, but hey, it was all in the day of the Scott children really, and he wouldn’t trade it for the world, it had been some of the best times in his life. Of course it also meant that whenever the boys pulled a prank on her or went for something she would so be retaliating and some of the times it was actually beyond funny, which always made Nick smile when he thought back on that. Leila definitely knew how to keep her own in situations like that and that was probably why she’d grown up to be as tough as she was, really.
She seemed to be making a lot of valid points though. True, again. When did you get so smart? He rubbed her arm with his hand though, trying to negate the bitter tone of her words, wishing there was something he could do to cheer up the mood. Especially since he remembered very well how Leila had been one of the only ones who had actually continued in treating him as if nothing was different when the whole drug thing came to a head. Their parents had been disappointed, and yes, he knew about the whole hiding her meds thing, though honestly, it had never been the meds that he’d drugged himself on. Leila knew. She was probably the only one who knew mostly every single detail about it. And she hadn’t looked at him any differently, which had meant a lot at the time when he was searching for solid ground underneath his feet and didn’t want people to look at him like he was some sort of freak or weirdo. Now he’d been clean for years and never actually felt the pull to the drugs anymore, he’d put himself through a vigorous regime to make sure he stayed clean as well, and whenever he felt like he was spiralling out of control again he hit the gym or went running like a maniac until he was about ready to collapse. But what does it matter if his family has lots of money? You still love him regardless, don’t you? It really shouldn’t matter, and Alex ... well, Alex is Alex, I suppose. He could understand that she was potentially upset because Daniel didn’t tell her this himself, which was a downside of things really, but at the end of the day, she couldn’t change that fact, in Nick’s opinion, so that was a little bit of a wasted energy and time on it. Not that he would be pointing that particular feature out. He did laugh though, rolling his eyes when she wiggled her eyebrows. Uh thanks, but no thanks, I’m quite happy being single for the moment, thank you. When I want to change that I’ll let you know and you can send me on as many blind dates as you want, deal? His blue eyes sparkled in gentle amusement at the thought though he knew he wasn’t ready for serious commitment yet. He just didn’t feel like it was a right thing at the moment for him. His next action was a sigh though. Yeah, actually, she pissed herself off. It was because of her twin brother, which is why I want you to keep this secret, it’s not that widely known. He paused for a moment. Peyton was livid with me because she was convinced that I was the one who got her brother into doing drugs, Larsen joined our little group back in high school after his mother passed away. It wasn’t actually me and I never forced him to do anything, but I didn’t actually send him away either, I guess. Unfortunately, while I pulled my act together, he hasn’t. I took a police record down to the Inn since I knew Peyton didn’t know. He’s getting himself caught in small things left, right and centre. I just felt like his family deserved to know. Nick sighed softly again and ran his free hand through his hair, shaking his head a little bit. The Alex topic, however, was pretty amusing, True I guess there’s something there. I might see if I can do something about it. He eyed her curiously as she spoke though, frowning a little. Okay – why would it be your fault then? Explain. Well, he had asked for it, obviously. He honestly had. For about a minute, Nick stared at Leila like she’d grown two heads, and he was pretty sure she’d be able to see the wheels in his mind turning rapidly after the little hiccup of stopping. He – what? You’re just playing me. Right? His eyes searched hers for confirmation, but it kind of didn’t happen, and Nick needed a moment. Did he at least punch Daniel or something? Because seriously ... I thought Alex just found out not that he – He cut himself off, trying to imagine himself in that situation. Yeah, no, backtrack. Not the best idea. Leila, seriously. He was fluctuating between feeling pissed off over the whole fact, trying not to judge, but also trying to wrap his head around the fact that his little sister ... wasn’t so little, not anymore. tagged .

AND HOW I GOT TO WHERE I AM. BUT THESE STORIES DON’T MEAN ANYTHING, WHEN YOU’VE GOT NO ONE TO TELL THEM TO. IT’S TRUE, I WAS MADE FOR- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - you | [atrb=width,240][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2zgu9hc.jpg); width: 240px; padding-top:10px;] Leila felt bad that Nick hadn’t been home often and was out of the loop with some things. Then again, it was probably best too. He didn’t have to watch her as time after time she was admitted to the hospital because of her pain. Nor the mood swings as she took hormones so they could harvest some of her eggs. No, he was spared all of that which was lucky for him. So was Alex up until the last three or so rounds. They could all act or say they felt bad that they weren’t there but she was glad they weren’t. Already too many family members felt sorry for her. She was tired of the pity stares. It only brought Leila down more.
Leila nodded. ”Well the Scott blood is what kept me going these last two years. Otherwise I might go insane” There was a tense smile on her face. Leila had to learn to hold it all together, especially when her mom lost it over Leila’s diagnosis. This condition could get complicated quickly. Like tumors complicated though very rare. Of course her mother went online, read that and freaked out. Leila wasn’t worried at all. Right now she wanted to move past this subject. She hated to talk about her condition just like Jackson hated to talk about his past bought with cancer. Leila did what she could to distract their cousin. Now he was all better and she accepted her condition so the two were doing better. A proud look came over her face as she wiggled from side to side in her seat. ”Well I learned form the best. And then you wonder where I get my sailor’s mouth from. Pfft.” Yes, Leila was rude, crude and generally socially unacceptable compared to many other girls.
Leila couldn’t express enough how glad she was to have her brother home. Especially when a bit of sadness crept into her tone. ”Probably around the time they said I may not be able to have kids naturally.” Leila’s lips pressed together as she pressed her head to his. Saying it out loud was so hard for her but something like that gave you new perspective. Perhaps that’s why she was always the one trying to keep normalcy in the family. First with her brother’s drug use, the Jackson’s cancer and then their cousin they never knew about. Leila tried to keep everyone calm and use the power of distraction. Many motherly qualities which is why she’d do so good as a teacher. She had the heart for it. There may be hard days when she realized her road to motherhood may be complicated but she figured she’d do well enough. ”Really it doesn’t matter. It’s just Alex was such an ass with how he told me. Felt like he wanted us to fight.” She pulled away from him so she could look at her brother instead of leaning on him. ”Just...weird. Maybe because I’m doing everything I can to save money to pay for the storage of my eggs. like one thing he got me could pay off the next five years.” It was just insane to think about.
Yes! Happy and humorous topics again, even if it was short lived. ”Well you’re no fun! Maybe you need the strip club more then Alex.” Ok that was a lie. Alex was super uptight lately it seemed. She tried to suppress giggles as he recounted about his meeting with Peyton today. ”She pissed herself off? Really now?” That laughter died when he recounted everything. Wow, why hadn’t he told her all of this before? She felt bad that he had dealt with all of that with the Malone family. ”What’d she say when you showed her the file?” She felt tense for him. Peyton was a hard person to get through to sometimes and since their mother’s death it had been even worse. She was really protective over her family and she couldn’t blame her. That along with helping run the inn, Peyton had to see life as a little grey.
Leila’s gaze mostly stayed on her hand but she’d peek sideways at him. Oh her brother was not happy. At least he didn’t look murderous like Alex had. She had to roll her lips together to keep from laughing at his question about Alex punching Daniel. ”No but he broke the bathroom door.” She tried to shrug it all off. ”Plus it would’ve been a bit, erm, difficult to get his hands on Daniel.” Ok did everyone seriously expect her to live life a nun until she got married! What her brothers could screw around but she couldn’t? At least she could count the number of partners she had had on one hand with just a lone finger. Leila adjusted herself so a leg came up onto the punch in a half Indian style type of way. ”Ok and it’s my fault because I wanted to keep it a secret, not Daniel. And then I pissed Daniel off by getting snappy and telling him we hid it for two months. So both our tempers sort of exploded. Daniel stayed calm so this is my fault.” Leila couldn’t help but giggle. ”Though I’m sure seeing Daniel’s bare ass probably made things a lot worse. It’s a very hard image to forget.” Hers for different, and much nicer, reasons. As long as Nick didn’t decide to suddenly murder Daniel they were all good.
Oh, he wasn’t happy. Her attempts to joke probably weren’t smart. ”Yes seriously. What is it so hard to think that maybe I actual want to have sex or that I have sex with Daniel?” Honestly why were people judging. She waited until nineteen to cash in her V-card! Older then at least two of her brothers, though positive all of them. ”And it’s not like Daniel is a stripper like my last ex or break up with me just because I was going to the hospital like my first boyfriend. No he actually cares about me. We’ve even talked about a future together and not just a casual talk. We’ve seriously talked about it. I just don’t want to move in just yet.” She paused. ”Mom and dad took out a second mortgage on the house to pay for my treatments. They don’t want all of you boys to know but that’s actually why I’m not ready to move out. I feel like I need to help out. Otherwise I would’ve already moved in.” Yes, they really were that serious. ”And I haven’t told him everything yet. After his family’s Charity Ball I’m tell him everything about my condition. If he still wants to be with me after that then you guys need to suck it up because I’m not going to let him go. I really love him.” Hopefully that go her brother to calm down.
