I could use somebody, I've been roaming around always looking down at all I see. Painted faces, fill the places I can't reach. You know that I could use somebody. Someone like you, and all you know and how you speak. Countless lovers under cover of the street. Landon had brought Jesse with him to his family reunion back in South Carolina. Whenever his family had their reunion, they went to his aunt and uncle’s beach houses. They owned a few that they rented out but for the reunion the family scattered between two that were side by side. It was crazy but a lot of fun. Some of his younger cousins ran around, his sister laid out on the deck lounging around-or went down the beach to find a guy-and there wee always things to do. There was access to things to play outdoors games like horseshoes, basketball or even that Velcro ball game. Food crammed both fridges and the cupboards. Every night there was a fire for the adults after the kids went to bed. People even brought their animals! It was fun and the perfect way for Landon to unwind after getting out of school for the summer.
They had been here for three days already and had another two to go before they drove home. Landon had convinced Jesse to take a little over a week off form work to come down with him. She had brought her dog that he got her for Christmas with her. The three stayed in one of the bedrooms together. This morning he was letting her sleep in. the whole family had been around the fire until well after three in the morning, no doubt annoying others who hand homes on the beach. The Reynolds family really didn’t care much as they at least kept the noise down to a low tone. Last night they actually talked about Landon’s birth mother which he knew was hard for his family to accept. Landon didn’t refer to his family as his adoptive family since they did raise him and everyone else thought the same. Still, that hadn’t meant he wasn’t curious about his birth mom. Some of his family mentioned bringing her to Thanksgiving this year and he nodded in consideration. Only what made her comfortable.
Anyways, now that he was awake, Landon went downstairs. He didn’t want to sleep in as he wanted to catch time with his sister before she went out shopping. While Landon made some waffles for him and Jesse, he chatted with his older sister a bit. Apparently she was on her way to meet her most recent ex to see about fixing things. Actually, recent wasn’t the best term. The two had been on and off for three years now. Landon wish they’d just pick one way or the other so that this dizzying dance would stop. Still, all he could do was offer advice, give her a hug as she walked out the door and pile the food on a tray.
When he came back into the room, he set the tray with both plates and the coffee on the dresser. With a grin he crawled back into the bed, on top of Jesse and began to tickle her side. ”This is a Reynolds gathering, sweetheart, you can’t sleep all day. Wake up….” he laughed out playfully. tagged: jesse outfit: here notes: ---- |

jesse had been very excited when landon asked if she wanted to come with him to his family reunion. her only hesitation had been about the shop, even if her employees could take care of it. it was only a week, so he'd convinced her the time off would not only be fine, but fun for her and she needed a break. it was true that she did, though she hated admitting that. as much as she loved her job, it could get extremely stressful, especially with long hours and not enough sleep. she'd been getting better and not doing that, however, since a few months back when she'd collapsed from sheer exhaustion. landon had seen to it that she ate right and slept enough after that, and jesse tried to do what he asked.
she'd brought her christmas present with her, frankie. she adored the little dog and still thanked landon for getting her for her. she'd been completely surprised when she opened the box and saw a little face peek out. it was still hard to put the little thing down, but she knew frankie needed exercise just like every other dog. landon helped out with that part of it when she was too busy to and when he had some free time. jesse was lucky to have landed a guy like him; one who not only cared about her, but loved her so much, and always helped where ever and whenever he could.
they had been there three days already, and jesse was loving every second of it. there was so much to do and lots of fun to be had, it was impossible to be bored. she didn't even have time to worry about how things at the shop were going. landon's family was so fun to be around, and nothing like her own. plus, they loved her and she fit in like she'd always been apart of it. the rest of her family never got load and ruckus, unlike herself, but this family was just the opposite. they were there for some carefree fun, and that's exactly what it was. it made jesse wish that her parents weren't so uptight all the time, and worried about other people's opinions on how they should look and behave.
the night before had been fun, but a late one. the kids had gone to bed and the adults had stayed up and chatted around the fire till 3 in the morning. well, jesse had fallen asleep before that, frankie curled in her lap, in a chair next to landon's. she hadn't woken up as he carried her to bed, having been exceptionally tired from the days packed full of activities, and the fact that it was so late.
jesse was laying on her right side, in such a deep sleep all night that she hadn't moved much. frankie, who was never very far from her owner, was laying on landon's side of the bed, having taken it over once he was up. the little dog lifted her head when he walked in, her nose twitching as she smelled the waffles. she stared at him, but didn't move, obviously begging for some of the food. jesse jumped a little in her sleep when landon tickled her side, and let out a groan. she opened her eyes as she heard his voice, and yawned. "did you tickle me?" jesse asked, wondering if that had been a part of her dream or a reality. she was highly ticklish, which was something he knew, of course, and she figured he'd done it to wake her up. "i know, but i'm so tired.." she usually didn't wake up fully till she had a cup of coffee in her, and she was especially tired at this point. she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him softly. pulling back, she smiled up at him."come back to bed, just for a little bit," jesse said, maybe not to sleep, but at least lay together for a while. then she noticed he was already dressed and she thought she smelled food and coffee. "what time is it?" she must have slept longer than she thought.
