ashton was surprised to hear that autumn was a junior. myles had said she was really smart, and apparently he was right. the fact that she was a grade ahead of him, though, intimidated him more. she was beautiful, super smart and nerdy. plus the minor detail that she was way out of his league. that was his opinion, anyway. ashton was no idiot; he got good grades and he worked hard to do so, but he hadn't skipped any grades, so was definitely not as smart as autumn. "wow. that's impressive," he replied, again keeping his tone casual. he laughed a little when myles said they were always changing. "sounds like us." it was hard for him to make up his mind which one he loved the best. there were quite a few that the two played, so he could never really decide.
ashton smiled at myles' suggestion that he bring a friend. he didn't do it often, though on rare occasion he'd bring over a guy friend or two, though no one he was real close to. his best friend was pretty much the only one. he was a nice kid, just shy, so he rarely talked to anyone first. if someone wanted to talk to ashton, they'd have to start the conversation, or wait twenty minutes for him to think of something to say. an hour, if it was a girl. and after that time, he'd probably end up walking away without saying anything all because he could never get the nerve up. "ok. it'll probably be just me," he told him, so he wouldn't expect more. ashton didn't plan on inviting anyone, though if the opportunity came along he probably would. he laughed at his friend and took a bite of food. "yep, that's you." myles was a funny guy, and fun to be around. he always thought of something for the two of them to do and it was usually very entertaining.
ashton shook his head, finding it funny how lazy myles could be at times, while he was so active the rest of the time. "well, i'm going to show you up tomorrow, and bring my own lunch," he told him, jokingly. he did plan on packing one the following day, though, and he'd probably put extra in it for myles. he knew his friend well. ashton glanced back in autumn's direction, just in time to see her wave at his friend. he looked back down quickly, hoping she wasn't about to come over and chat with them. well, part of him, anyway.
ashton had been smiling to himself and eating a bit as myles spoke to the girl at the next table. but when he invited her over to sit with them he nearly choked on his food. he cleared his throat, partly to get his friend's attention and give him a glare. as if to say "why the heck did you do that??". ashton hadn't intended for that to happen. of course, she'd mentioned that she was into sci-fi stuff, so maybe it'd be ok. still, his appetite was lessening by the second. darn nerves.

Myles was so happy that his best friend was interested in his other friend. They would someday be the three amigos! That was a long way off though and he knew it, but seeing his friend ask questions just proved he was moving forward and hopefully towards a better life where he wouldn't be afraid of women. After all, they were everywhere. It was definitely going to be hard for Ashton to avoid them for the rest of his life. "Yeah I told you she was cool. I mean who's cooler than us?" He laughed, knowing the answer was probably 'everyone' considering they were such big nerds and weirdos.
Myles grinned and picked at his food some more, moving it around on his plate but not really eating anything. It just didn't look that appetizing. "Whether or not there's probably going to be plenty of snacks, I stocked up the other day so we're good for a long gaming session I think." He cracked his knuckles, grinning as he thought about his addiction.
"Challenge accepted!" He said, banging his fist on the table and talking loud enough that the noise in the cafeteria quieted momentarily. He chuckled and grinned at his friend. "I will totally remember to bring a lunch and will totally show you up." He knew that it probably wouldn't work out that way. He had a hard time getting up in the morning. Maybe he would call Autumn and beg her to bring an extra lunch to try and trick his best friend...
Myles blinked and shrugged, looking at his friend aplogetically. He hadn't meant to upset Ashton, he was simply being nice and had suggested it before realizing what he had said. That's how Myles was, he was always trying to make people happy, that's why he was so goofy. He turned to look at the girl across from them and grinned his friendly grin, "No worries, I do most of the talking so you got to interrupt to get a word in edge-wise." Georgiana hesitated as she noticed one of the boy's reactions to the invitation. She got it; she was one of those people no one wanted to sit next to. She just... well... she didn't know, to be honest. Why did people feel the need to not sit next to her during lunch, or in classes, or anywhere, really? These two guys seemed nice, but... then again, they probably were, but just not to her. She had overheard many times about girls and boys who were kind and friendly, but when she encountered them they had mocked her for whatever reason. It wasn't fair.
She was going to apologize and politely refuse the offer when the other boy spoke again. She wasn't too sure, but she felt a little more confident when he smiled at her like that. She obviously knew it wasn't a 'I really like you' smile; just friendly. But, still, she felt good knowing that there were still some people out there that wanted to talk to her without being forced to. "Well... I mean... Uh, if you guys don't mind me sitting at the table. I totally understand if you do, you know? I mean, I'm a freshman and... um... you guys are probably not in my grade and all." Georgiana nervously pushed some of her hair out of her face. She didn't mean to sound so frazzled, but she couldn't help it. These guys didn't seem like they were just freshman, but she didn't want to go ahead and guess that they were in a higher grade either. So she kept it at that. She just wished she could communicate better without becoming so flustered. It wasn't everyday that two good-looking boys talked to her without trying to mock her.

ashton was sensing that myles was getting excited about the fact that he was interested, so decided not to ask anymore questions about her, for the time being. he didn't want to sound too eager, or give his friend the wrong impression. sure, autumn was attractive, and he was definitely crushing on her, but it wasn't like he was going to ask her out. at least, not in the near future. ashton laughed with myles, shaking his head a little in amusement. they were anything but cool, and they both knew it. in fact, everyone that attended the school knew it. but for him, it wasn't really a big deal. he didn't have to be popular or cool, though fitting in a bit more would be nice. he just wanted to get through high school without getting beat up or bullied too much. ashton had never gotten beat up, fortunately, but getting picked on was a pretty common thing for him.
he grinned as well when myles mentioned snacks and a long gaming session. he couldn't wait. it was definitely one of his favorite pastimes. "awesome," ashton replied with enthusiasm. he laughed when he cracked his knuckles, finding his friend amusing, as usual. it had pretty much taken his mind off the thought of girls for the time being, so he was able to take a few bites of food.
ashton glanced around when the room went quiet. he didn't like when myles drew attention to them like that, and had quickly lowered his head, his face flushing. but peoples attention didn't stay on them long, so he soon raised his head again. but not without giving his friend a look. ashton wasn't too upset with him, just a bit embarrassed. "we'll see," was his reply, doubting that it would happen. it wasn't that he thought myles was lying. he was sure he fully intended to bring his own lunch tomorrow, but that didn't mean it would actually happen.
ashton kept his head down as myles spoke to the girl. "you can say that again," he muttered as his friend admitted to the fact that he did most of the talking. he listened to the girl speak, glancing at his friend, but leaving the answer to him. it wasn't that he had anything against her, except for the fact that, well.. she was a girl. but she seemed nice enough, and a bit nervous, like himself. ashton was no doubt more nervous than she was, though.

Myles sighed and rubbed the back of his head, mussing up his hair a bit as he tried to figure out what to say to this awkward girl. He certainly didn't want to be rude and say she couldn't sit with them after he had already invited her over to their table. She seemed different and that wasn't bad, after all, Ashton and Myles were both different too. Weirdos had to stick together after all.
Sighing again he glanced at his best friend, trying to get him to understand he wasn't trying to make things weird for him, he just was being nice and helpful like he was always trying to be. He muttered a sorry to him before grinning over at the girl who was clearly a freshmen.
"No worries, you can sit with us as long as you don't expect much out of my friend." He patted him on the shoulder, knowing he was probably going to get yelled at or the silent treatment later. Oh well, he knew Ashton well enough to know how to make it up to him. He mentally laughed, knowing they were almost like an old married couple, the way they knew each other so well and how to fix any problems that arose. Maybe he would give him Autumn's email or phone number, that might fix it.
Then again, its not like Myles meant to make things weird for his best friend and hoped Ashton knew that. It was just his personality to try and help those that seemed lost. "No worries, we're Sophmores, its not like we're that much more mature." He chuckled, knowing he wasn't mature at all. "How do you like high school? It gets better, I promise."

Georgiana blinked, and smiled as best she could despite her shyness. "Uh, thanks." She hesitated, and started to pick up her things to move tables. She was glad these boys didn't mind her sitting at the table, though one of them seemed to not talk a lot. Perhaps he was also nervous, or maybe he really just didn't want to talk to Georgiana. Either possibility could be true, since she had encountered both types before in her school years. Mostly the 'not wanting to talk' ones than the other one.
Once she had moved over and sat down, she blinked at the boy. "Oh! Uh..." She paused, and then lied, "It's going fine for me. Middle school was a little much, but it seems a little more relaxed in high school. I guess it'll either get more stressful or more relaxing, depending on who you are. How about you guys? Did your freshman year go over well?" She hoped her speech wouldn't get her made fun of; she tended to speak a little more formerly than most children her age. She felt a little embarrassed by this, but it could have also been due to the fact that she had blatantly lied to these boys. Her school year had been pretty miserable; she liked the high school, but it seemed as though ninth graders were as ruthless as eighth graders. She was just glad some of them were intimidated by the upperclassmen.
Perhaps this was the year she would start to try to make friends. Perhaps she should join the drama club? Or maybe the key club? Maybe she should be more sociable and talkative to her peers, and maybe that would help her not be so rejected by everyone. She couldn't give a bad impression in the high school; if she did she would not escape the torment until she graduated from high school. That would be a long three years of her life.

ashton knew that myles was just being his regular nice self, and wasn't trying to make life hard for him. he wasn't trying to be unkind to the girl, but it was probably coming across that way. he heard his best friends 'sorry' and looked up at him nodding a little. he really couldn't be mad at myles just for being nice to someone. even if it was a girl.
that changed when the next words came out of his mouth. ashton glared at him, wishing he could chew him out right then for saying that, but he held back because of the girl. he hunched over his plate more, pretending he was very interested with the food in front of him as he scooped up more. myles was definitely going to have to make this up to him, which was something he more than likely knew already. that was just part of being best friends. the fact they knew what the other was thinking, or even what their actions would be, at times.
ashton arched an eyebrow at myles statement, not lifting his head. "speak for yourself.." he muttered quietly. the girl wouldn't have heard, but he wasn't sure if myles could. despite himself, he listened to her answer, wondering if it was true or not. well, what reason would she have to lie to them? ashton cleared his throat a little and took another bite, glancing up at his friend and hoping he'd answer for both of them. the last thing he wanted to do was answer her question and have his voice crack. especially since she was younger than him.
autumn caught his attention again as he glanced up, and he found himself wondering what she was thinking about. probably not him, though maybe myles. they seemed to be pretty good friends. ashton wasn't jealous of them at all. if it started effecting their relationship than he'd definitely get to that point, but he doubted that would happen. they were too close for anyone to come between them, even if they got on each other's nerves at times.
