Small and beautiful Hope is on the west side of Penobscot Bay, between Rockland and Camden. For over a hundred and fifty years, Hope has been the home to lobstermen and fishermen who built their weirs in the harbor. It lies behind a long breakwater on the west side of the bay. In the town near by, Rockland, there is a major Coast Guard base with search-and-rescue capabilities. Hope is easy to find. Even from a distance it looks like a city, with conspicuous high structures isolated in a comparatively low-lying area well south of the Camden Hills. Owls Head Light, on its dramatic wooded bluff, is visible a long way. If you're on the water, beware of ferries coming and going, not to mention fishing boats. In fog, keep an ear on your radio. Hope Harbor has it all - history, culture, families, beautiful sunsets.. This is the place to be.
