history : Autumn was born out of wedlock on a cold rainy autumn day on the way to the hospital. There were complications with her mother's pregnancy and with the birth that caused Autumn to be very sick for most of her life. She was hospitalized for a couple of months after her birth before being released into her family's care. Her name was a joke, she was a joke after all but it stuck.
She started public school like a normal kid but by the time she was in first grade she was getting sick again and was hospitalized. They realized this was going to be something she had to battle for the rest of her life and the hospital in hope harbor didn't have the funds or technology to deal with it. So they packed up and moved to Boston where her father climbed the corporate ladder. Autumn's grandparents sent money to pay for her medical bills, the fishing business that had been in the family for generations, still doing well.
So for the next ten years, Autumn lived in a special hospital, getting home schooled, hidden away from the outside world. The only friends she had were doctors and nurses and the occasional sick person that passed through but more often than not, the sick went on to a better place and left her feeling lonelier than before. To amuse herself, Autumn buried her nose in books, her parents bringing her more and more, filling her private hospital room with them. Her favorites were the fairy tales... especially the ones where a prince would rescue the princess. But no princes came to save her from her locked tower.
When she turned thirteen, is when she started to ask to go to public school, to see the world. Her parents were torn on the subject and argued a lot. Finally, at sixteen, Autumn's mother brought her back to Hope Harbor to live with her grandparents. Her father, unhappy with this decision decided to stay in Boston where he was much closer to his job.
Her grandparents hired a nurse to help out but so far, she's been doing good with only small fits here and there. With fingers crossed, Autumn's family prays she's outgrowing her sickness, glad to see her immune system is holding up well in the fresh air of Hope Harbor.[/b]
the sample post
Autumn sighed softly, her fingertips pressing against the window, the glass cold against her flushed skin. Her fever had yet to break today and the weather wasn't helping any. Another sigh escaped her as the rain pounded on the glass, sliding down, the droplets racing each other. She pressed her forehead against the glass, enjoying the cool relief it gave her. She hoped the fever would break as well as the clouds. It was a simple pleasure of hers, to see the sun streaking into her room, lighting up the white walls and floors. It made the room look almost heavenly, bright and cheery, which almost made her forget that it was a hospital room. Not today it seemed, today it was dark and dimly lit. She cold smell all the cleaning chemicals that were used to keep everything sanitary. This was home, and a sad home that it was. Stepping from the window, feeling slightly cooler, if only for a moment, she wandered to her book shelf and pulled her favorite story from the shelf. She slipped under the covers of her bed, snuggled in and flipped open the pages, ready to get lost in another world.
