Being cooped up at the McLaughlin vacation home she got out whenever she could. Sydni had been kind ot allow Leila to stay here until Daniel signed the annulment papers and she could go home. She had sent them to him over a week ago and he was still refusing to sign them and she knew that because he kept leaving her voicemails on her cell phone. Good thing all her classes were online but this semester would probably be her only one. Leila needed to go back to work as soon as the baby arrived since she didn’t want to rely on Daniel for child support. She planned to take care of all the expenses herself. Her mom ahd offered to stop working ot watch Olivia whenever Leila had to go to work but that offer was reluctant. Her family was all pushing for a reconciliation. They just didn’t get it.
Her eldest brother had explained that everything Daniel had said was true and even took her to Marrissa’s grave but it didn’t matter-the damage was done. It was one thing for her to hide a medical condition since no one outside her family knew about it but different to hide a past relationship where you still sent flowers to the grave. Even if she had just found the receipts one day she probably would’ve reacted the same way. Leila was completely honest about her past after they were engaged. She had told him everything about her condition then. When they were just dating and not sure where things were going with them it wasn’t as big of a deal to keeping something from him. Or for Daniel to keep something from Leila. But they had gotten ebgagdd and sub sequentially marries. By now he should’ve told her about Marissa. The fact he couldn’t be honest about that to her killed Leila. Really, how could she expect him to be honest about anything else?
As Leila made her way into the house she heard her phone going off. It was Daniel-again. She ignored the call before going to grab some lunch despite not being hungry but she knew she should eat. She was seven months pregnant now so she had no choice but to eat, even when she didn’t feel like it. Leila family had all stopped by that morning and helped her make some meals which now filled the freezer and fridge. She grabbed some lasagna and popped it in the microwave before pouring some strawberry-lemonade. She heard her phone go off again but this time it was her brother. Cautiously she answered it but didn’t say anything. Daniel had called her from Coleman's phone once so now when he called she didn’t say anything. And where Daniel had just called a few minutes prior…yeah, she was cautious. When Alex’s voice greeted her she finally responded and they chatted. He tried to talk sense into her, again, about reconsidering the annulment. She was steadfast in it. Despite loving Daniel and wanting to be with him she couldn’t have another fight like this. She wanted to know she could trust him and right now she was no longer sure.
They had been together less then a year and had really rushed things it seemed. She thought everything was perfect but obviously it wasn’t. she felt Olivia moving within her swollen belly and she rubbed a hand over her stomach as she ate her food. Olivia would always have her and Daniel bound to one another but she didn’t see how they could bounce back from this. This was bigger then anything else. Leila had said she needed to think but he automatically assumed she was leaving him. She clearly said she just needed to think while away form him and the stress. Never did she say divorce! But nope, he automatically assumed she was just leaving. What kind of relationship was that if he just assumed that whenever she needed to get away to think? More importantly, what kind of marriage?
With the food finished she put the dishes in the sink before she got some water and went into the den. Lately she couldn’t sleep very well. The most comfortable place to sleep turned out to be the recliner. Leila moved to sit in it and once the foot rest was extended she leaned it back. She used a small couch pillow between her legs as she turned on her side and watched a movie she had put on. Leila had spring break so she had no class work, leaving her plenty of time to just veg out and nap whenever she wanted. There was a paper but she was nearly done it and had a whole week to do so. Being Sunday nothing was really on the television so she drifted to sleep easily but only after she cried for what felt like the hundredth time, her eyes rimmed red and cheeks still blotchy from the amount of tears sobbed out. Long ago Leila had given up wearing any make-up but it didn’t matter. She didn’t have anyone to look pretty for anymore.

Talk about one huge mess. Everything that had happened had happened because this Avery person was a scared little pansy that needed to come out into the open and show themselves. If they really were man enough then they could come out into the open instead of hiding like a coward! What really made him pissed was the doctored photo of him and Marissa. That had been so long ago he didn’t even know that that picture still existed. Sure he probably had a copy of it someplace in his house. That just made this whole situation worse. It was with all his stuff in storage and that could only mean two things. One: This Avery person had found Marissa’s family and went through her things and found that picture or; two: Avery had gone through the things in his house and found it to use against them. Both situations were creepy.
It had been what felt like years since he had last seen Leila. The only time he had contact with her was when he borrowed one of her brothers’ phones and tried to talk to her. That in the end did not turn out well at all. This was ridiculous! She was never going to let him explain anything and they would never be fixed. That was why he needed to talk to her. Thankfully Alex had come to his rescue and talked to her to explain everything to her.
Was he a bad person? There was no way that he could be a bad person because of this? If she knew all the reasons as to why he continued to send flowers to the grave then maybe she would realize that he was being a good person. Was it his fault that her own parents never went out to visit the grave? It was at least some sign to know that someone cared enough to send flowers there on her birthday. Maybe he should have told her but that was just something you don’t drop on your fiancée right away. How would she have reacted had he told her that? Not only that did she really feel threatened by someone who was dead? There was nothing to worry about! He loved Leila and that was the only person he will love. Well okay that’s a lie. He would love Olivia just as much as he loves her mother.
Today was the day that he was going to go and see Leila. They were going to have to fix things and one way or another it would all be decided here. Part of him couldn’t help but feel like she was going to leave him. Could you blame him? A beautiful woman like her out there someone was bound to pick her up and marry her. She was an amazing woman and he wanted her to be his and only his. All his fears were soon realized a week ago when annulment papers came to the house. There was no way that he was EVER going to sign these.
That was why they were sitting on the seat next to him; in a plastic bag mind you. Why? Well the minute he saw what they were he put them through the shredder. He didn’t care if he got in trouble for doing that but he was NOT and will NEVER sign those at all. If she was going to go through with this she was going to have to do it the hard way and he was going to go down fighting if he had to. One of the best things you could do was fight for your marriage. That’s what he was going to the cabin to do today. It was going to be a surprise visit. He didn’t know how Alex did it but he had gotten a key to the place that she was staying and gave it to him. Now he had everything that he needed to go and win his wife back. Not only was he going with the shredded documents but he had a dozen of her favorite flowers on the seat with them.
With a heavy sigh he slowly pulled up the drive way to the cabin that she was staying in. Oh how he wished that he could just bring her home right now and they would forget this whole thing happened. If only that stupid Avery person was gone and out of their lives. That would be the best thing ever! There would be no more need to worry about what happened and what you were doing. Right now he promised himself that if he ever found out whom Avery was he would make sure that person paid a lot. What? You mess with his family he was going to mess you up in return. If there was one word to describe how Daniel was towards Leila it would be protective. She was his everything and he was going to protect that no matter what.
Slipping out of the car he gathered up both the plastic bag and the flowers and then closed the door. Hopefully if she heard everything she would only think it was her brother coming here to check up on her. If she got up and looked out the window then this would mess up his whole surprise and he would have to think about a new course of action to take with her.
Making his way to the door he listened to make sure that there was no movement coming from inside the house coming to the door. When he realized that the coast was clear he slipped the key into the lock and unlocked the cabin and slowly and silently he slipped into the cabin. Closing the door behind him he locked it back and made his way through the place. Where was she going to be at? Hearing the television on he followed the noise until he reached the room where she was. Seeing the recliner back and her facing away from him he made his way towards her. With each step he took the thumping in his chest picked up speed until it felt like his heart was going to suddenly burst from his chest.
His eyes on Leila he moved so now he was blocking the television and he dropped the bag of shredded annulment papers on the coffee table for her to see. It had been so long she looked even more beautiful than the last time he had seen her. Now was the time that he was going to make everything up to her. There would be no stopping him from here on out. His eyes finally found Leila’s and he sighed in content. She was going to be pissed he was here. All he knew how to do was try and keep her calm for the sake of the baby. He moved and sat down on the coffee table and then returned his gaze back to her. “Leila, I’ve really missed you.” Taking the flowers he held them out for her and sighed. She was probably going to throw them away. “I’m really sorry about what happened. Can you ever forgive a fool?” Probably not but it was worth a try. This only meant that he was going to have to fight harder for her if she denied him.

Between the stress of the past month, worrying about every little contraction after one particular scare and just taking care of herself, Leila was drained. Emotionally and physically. She tried her best to push through each day but it was becoming harder and harder to do. More often then not she found herself crushing two or three times during the day along with sleeping at night. The tears that often fell didn’t help things. Leila and her stupid pride were standing in the way of her being happy. That was her own fault and no one else’s. she needed to learn how to move past that but it was difficult. She had always been one who took care of herself and didn’t want to rely on anyone else to make her happy. Despite Daniel generally making her happy she still didn’t want to rely solely on him.
When Leila got into a fairly deep sleep, it was difficult to rouse her. Today was no exception. She didn’t hear the knock on the door nor the footsteps in the hall. It wasn’t until she heard them in the room that she rubbed her hand along her face to wake herself up. The first thing she caught sight of was a bag with shredded papers on the tbale. Odd...then she moved to look upwards at the one person she didn’t want to have know where she was staying. Anger and hurt flared in her because that meant one of her brothers had told him where she was. Or maybe her mother. No, Leila wouldn’t past her mother to do this in an attempt to help Leila out. In this case she didn’t want intervention from her family to help out. Leila just wanted to move past this ugly mess on her own.
Leila shifted so she was upright and pushed the recliner’s footrest downwards. She pushed the scarlet anemones aside before she got up. Flowers weren’t going to fix things. Daniel being honest with her was the only thing that would. ”No Daniel, I can’t. I can’t forgive you for constantly hiding shit from me when I’ve only ever hid one thing from you and I was honest form the beginning that I wouldn‘t tell you until we were more serious. Nor do I wish to be married to someone who assumes every time I want a little space that I want a divorce.” She was, of course, referring to him telling her he went out with the guys for once a week but she had found him with Lexi, Jayce and Myles playing games. It didn’t anger her that he was playing with them just that he felt the need to hide it form her. But she hadn’t confronted Daniel with that, hoping he’d tell her. After a couple weeks of no word and then this photo she gave up on him ever talking to her about it.
These were probably dumb things to be mad about but for the girl who always kept walls up, they just broke her trust in him. As she moved to exit the room, the print on the shredded papers caught her eye. Squinting anger flared up in her. ”Why did you shred the papers?! Ugh! You’re so…infuriating.” Leila, not wanting to get her blood pressure up or bring on contractions, left the room and went upstairs to the bedroom she had been sleeping in. she slammed the door behind her before she let out a huff of air. Whichever family member had told Daniel where she was would be in serious trouble. She didn’t want to deal with all this shit right now. She could not believe he had seriously shredded the papers! Yes, it proved he missed her and probably proved he really did love her but that wasn’t the point of the matter. The point was she didn’t want some drawn out process. Daniel had yet to give her the one thing she wanted and that was complete honest. She had given up hope he would and just wanted to be done things before it got too much deeper and her heart just end up more broken.
Leila sat down on the edge of te bed and wrapped her arms around her stomach. Olivia had started kicking like crazy when Daniel had spoken. Before she left he often spoke to her belly so Olivia obviously recognized the voice. Not like she’d tell Daniel that. Instead she’d stay here, her arms wrapped protectively around the stomach that held her daughter, and pray that Daniel left her alone. She just didn’t want to deal with this. It all hurt too much. That hurt was evident in the tears that sprang up into her eyes at this present time but she tried to control them and hold them back. That was a battle Leila was quickly losing.

How could it all have come down to this? Everything he was scared of happening was passing and he didn’t like it one bit. One way or another he was going to have to find a way to win back his Leila’s heart and that was that. There would be no need for him to worry; he would win her back. He hoped. That was the one thing that was helping him go through every day was that she would one day be his all over again. If he had to win her back from another guy then he would. What he told her brother on their wedding day was true. He loved Leila Scott and would do anything for her.
When he was sitting there on the table waiting for her to wake up he felt his heart beating at a million miles a minute again. This was just frustrating! He wanted her back but it didn’t look like that was going to happen. When her eyes opened he braced himself for the reaction that was going to come. She was probably going to yell and scream and hit him or something. He needed to be ready for anything including the ever constant fear of her not wanting to be with him anymore.
When she spoke up his eyes widened. She wouldn’t forgive him? Okay see this was so messed up! He had only ever hidden like three or four things from her and they all came out and she finally knew about them. That was all! The first ones weren’t even that big of a deal! This one was but that was all! That was when she spoke up and his worst fear was realized. She didn’t want to be married to him anymore. “Once! Once did I think you were going to divorce me because it was a fear that ran through my mind. It’s not like I was sitting there the whole time like “oh she’s going to divorce me I just know it.” No, it was one little irrational fear on my part and you think that’s what I will think every time? It won’t be. I love you Leila and always will.”
As he watched her go to the exit and then stop and speak up about the papers he shrugged his shoulders. “What can I say, the Scott stubbornness has rubbed off on me. I’m not going to annul it because I believe we can still work through this. I know you still love me just as much as I love you.” Yup, he was going to keep on fighting just like a Scott would. When she walked out he sighed and followed her to the room she was staying in. As the door slammed in his face not only did he walk into it but he fell back a little. Ouch, that was cold. Trying the handle he sighed and shook his head. It really did look like it was over.
“You know that this isn’t over, I won’t let you go so easy.” It seemed like now it was the right time to just come out and tell her everything. The only secret he seemed to have left was the nights he went and played dungeons and dragons with his cousin and the others. With a sigh he pulled a letter out of his pocket and slid it under the door. “Before you go and make any rash choices you should read that.” The confessions and apologies about the secrets he had hidden from her and she found out about were in there. The other being that of his D&D nights with his cousin and not going out with his friends. It was clear in that one he was scared she’d think him a really big nerd and think differently about him. There, everything was out in the open now once she read it.
“Goodbye Leila.” Slowly he made his way out of the cabin and back into his car. Climbing in he sighed and rested his head against the wheel. Everything he had fought so hard to keep and have was gone. Looks like in the end you really couldn’t keep everything you wanted.

Sure, some of it was her rather irrational temper and crazy hormones but it couldn’t all be to blame. Daniel had been keeping secrets and while a couple may have been minor, when they were piled up it was a lot. At least to Leila. Coleman told her to give Daniel a chance and to hash things out without yelling but it was really hard to do. every time she heard his voice she first got sad then got incredibly angry. Yes, angry. Angry that Leila wasn’t even worth the truth for things. It felt like she was always finding things out from others. Part of that feeling was how her parents tried to protect her, especially after her diagnosis. They only wanted to keep her happy but that just made things harder now.
Leila rolled her eyes. ”Yes, once so far. With the first fight after our marriage and you go with that. A little hard not to think other fights won’t be like that when our very first one married was like that.” Pure speculation but it wasn’t that far out of the realm of possibility. Their first fight while married should not have him even thinking that she was leaving for good. Still, tears rose to her eyes and made them shine as she looked down and away form Daniel. She had to bite down on her lower lip when he said he loved her. Not that she didn’t but she didn’t want it to seme like she was caving.
In fact, Leila could no longer look hi straight in the eyes at all. She hated that he knew her so well. Really, she hated it. So instead she continued to skirt around his remarks about her still loving him and just left the moment. She could feel her tension getting too high and had to get away before it caused issues for the pregnancy. Seeing as there was no way he could have a key to all the other rooms she felt safe with having the door of the bedroom she occupied locked. Even though Daniel couldn’t see her, as she sat there Leila’s jaw remained set while her hands soothed the child within her. So messed up! Everything was just so…grr!
Her eyes carefully watched the paper slide under the door. Leila kicked off her flip flops before she quietly moved to the door to take the paper, not wanting him to know she grabbed it. Still, with her weight gain and shift in her center of gravity it probably wasn’t hard to hear the floorboards squeak underneath her. That and she strained to get down onto the floor to grab the paper and then back up again. As she scanned over the letter, she paced slightly and barley registered that he said goodbye. She scoffed as most of this she already knew-hence why she had left. Eventually she softened as she sighed a bit. Leila rubbed at her temple. Maybe it was time to talk. After all he had admitted everything or so he was saying. Her swollen feet slipped back into her flip flops before she made her way back down the stairs and out the door.
Not wanting to go far, she stood at the top of the stairs of the porch and crossed her arms. Daniel’s head was bowed in the car. He really did look defeated and she felt bad for doing all this. If she were honest, she was feeling a bit spiteful and just wanted him to hurt as much as he had hurt her. ”Hey!” she shouted to get his attention before she waved the letter around. ”I already knew all about your little game night. Found out a couple weeks ago when I saw you, Lexi, Jayce and Myles playing. Did you really think that I stayed away after finding out the truth about Marissa because of that only? No I am tired of you hiding things. Damn it I‘m your wife, Daniel. You’re supposed to be honest with me. At least act like that means something.” The hurt was evident all over from her head to her toe. There were things that were perfectly find to hide like a surprise but then being deceitful or hiding things that should be brought to light weren’t healthy.
A few more tears escaped which she reached up to flick away. ”Is this all, Daniel? Because I can’t keep being married to your if you’re going to lie about where you are or keep hiding major things from me.”

This whole thing was so frustrating. The thought of losing his wife was something that really terrified him every single day that they were apart. He didn’t want anything bad to happen and he had no idea how bad that this one little secret he kept was. They were going to find some way to work through this, they just had to. There was no way that he was going to give up on them without this fight. He had loved her for the longest time and nothing that could happen was going to tear that from them. Leila was his life and he was not going to lose it. Not with their Olivia on the way. They needed to be a whole family for her.
As he listened to her he shook his head and moved a little closer. “I can promise you that will be out first and last fight. We won’t have any more fights at all.” He would fight tooth and nail to make sure that they never had another fight for as long as they were married. Something was just telling him that they would be able to sort through this if they really got down to it and talked. That was all they needed to do. When the tears started to shine in her eyes he reached his hand gently up to stroke her cheek lovingly. If there was one thing he hated it was tears coming from her. No one should ever make such a perfect woman cry.
When she looked away from him he sighed. Sometimes it was good to know your partner so well that you knew everything about them. He could tell she still loved him as much as he loved her. Her leaving to go lock herself in her room though made him flinch. He didn’t want anything to separate them and well when she left to put that wall between them it hurt. He paced outside the door as he waited and waited. When he heard the floor squeak he knew that she had gotten up and was probably reading the letter now. It was something she should probably do alone so they could talk about it later. Everything that had happened was in that letter. All the secrets that he had left she now knew.
Sitting behind the wheel of his car he couldn’t help but shake. The fight wasn’t over yet! He could still win her back. When he looked up he saw her outside yelling for him and waving the letter. Stepping out of his car he made his way slowly up to her as she spoke. Holy crap she knew? How could she have known!? Well the jig was up and he really was in trouble now. A blush crept on his cheeks as he thought about how nerdy he must seem. “It does mean something to me Leila, I love you so much and didn’t mean to hurt you. Just….being a nerd on that level. I probably should have told you about that nerdness.” Yes, now he was ashamed.
Now next to her he moved his hand up and rubbed her cheeks to keep the tears from falling. When she asked if that was all he sighed. Yeah it was all. Gently he hugged her and kissed her cheek. “Unless you count me really being an Alien from the Andromeda Galaxy?” He laughed a little and then looked into her eyes. “No, there is nothing else. You know everything about me now.”

Really? He was promising they wouldn’t fight ever again? That was impossible. ”daniel you can’t promise something like that so don’t ok?” Leila wasn’t trying to be cruel but there was no couple who never fought. It was impossible. Even her parents who had been married for almost thirty years still fought just they fixed things after which is what mattered the most. So far her and daniel hadn’t been able to do that with this fight which was a bit frustrating. That probably just fueled Leila’s irrationality just a little bit. That irrationality caused her to first lean into his touch but then just as quickly pulled away. Leila couldn’t give in so easily just because he was trying to comfort her. Leila needed to keep her wits about her and stand her ground. She wasn’t always going to cave in. they needed to have a mutual understanding.
Leila knew she should’ve known all these things before getting married but at the same time how boring would it be if you knew every single thing about one another before getting married? That’d make life boring because you’d stop discovering things about one another as well as together. Still there was a difference between little things to discover and large secrets. These were large secrets and should be shared. Not like Leila ever suspected that he was keeping something from her. After all, how could she? The point of the matter was he should’ve told her. Leila didn’t care what he did as long as he wasn’t cheating but these secrets, if not found out the right way, could make one suspicious of infidelity.
Leila rolled her eyes as she shook her head at daniel. ”daniel I don’t care if you play your little game just don’t lie about it. That house may be friggin huge but don’t hide away and expect me to not find out.” seriously she was used to it with myles. More then used to it really. He often dragged Leila to go shopping at his geek stores with him. Being totally dorky was nothing new for her. After all she did want to be a teacher. Or daycare owner. She was no longer really sure on that front.
This time after Leila leaned into his touch she didn’t pull back. A delicate hand went to encircle his wrist as the two stood on the porch with one another. She chuckled lightly as she looked back up into those expressive eyes of his. ”I already knew you were an alien. That’s why you married me, remember? Galactic amnesty.” Leila leaned forward to wrap her arms around daniel’s waist the best she could with her protruding midriff. Her head went completely forward to lean against his chest as she breathed him in. god she had missed him so much. ”I love you daniel just stop hiding things. Please. I can’t handle it if you do it again. There‘s too much shit going on in this town to keep dealing with stupid crap like this.” Leila lifted her head up so she could gaze up at him before she pressed a kiss to his lips. They hadn’t done that in so long and it felt good to be doing it once again.

When she spoke up about trying to promise something that couldn’t be kept he looked down and took her hands as he looked dead in her eyes. “Darling I am going to promise you that I will try my hardest to make that true. I don’t ever want to fight with you ever again.” It was something he hated, fighting with her was like fighting with himself and he disliked it so much. If he could just never have to fight with her again it would be amazing. Now there might come one fight where it’s where their child should go to school at but that would be it. Nothing else would ever come between them. As he stroked her cheek and she leaned in then pulled away it made him sad.
Now he was an open book to her and would never lie or keep something from her again. He was hers fully now and now she knew everything about him. A sigh leaving his lips as he looked back up into her eyes. He loved her so much and never wanted to leave her or her leave him. This was the one person he wasn’t going to lose and he would prove that. He felt like a major idiot now that he thought back on it. She should have learned all of that from him and not on her own. It’s not like he wanted to hide these things from her. Well the D&D thing maybe because he didn’t want her to think him a big old nerd.
Looking back at her he smiled and looked down. “I am really sorry about that, Leila. I didn’t mean to hide it from you. I really hope you don’t think me too big a geek or dork.” It was true he was a big old geek but he was one because of Lexi. She was one of his best friends of all time and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his cousin. Next to Leila she was the only person he could really talk to and he liked that. It was nice having two people around he could seriously trust.
Feeling her hand come up and holding his wrist he smiled while gazing deep into her eyes. His finger gently stroking her cheek as she played along with his joke to lighten up the mood. That was one reason he loved this woman so much. “Don’t forget so I could become a member of Earth too.” His arms slipped around her waist holding her to him as much as he could. He missed her so much and he was glad to have her around him. While she spoke up he nodded. “I’m not going to hide anything from you ever again. I love you too much to hurt you like that.” A sigh left his lips as he leaned in kissing her sweet lips. It had been so long he was overjoyed with finally kissing his wife once more. “I missed you so much, Leila.”
