the basics
character name : Oliver Sebastian Welcott
nickname(s) : Oli (Only to those who are close to him)
age : Twenty-Eight
date of birth : February 5, 1984
member group: Local
sexual orientation : heterosexual
occupation : Medical Doctor
the appearance
appearance : Oliver has a very unique style. Some might best describer it as sophisticated hipster, but that wouldn't quite fit the bill. He likes to wear glasses when he's working, because he feels it makes him look more distinguished and intelligent. Not that he's not very smart already. Oliver likes bow ties, well...because they're quite cool actually. Sport coats, suspenders, high waters, and leather ankle boots make him feel like he's modernized the traditional 50's look. Having grown up in London, England he is quite the type to wear a tux, scarf, and top hat to a very fancy dinner or a wedding.
Oliver stands at nearly 6' 3" tall and is extremely thin. But not because he's ill. He just has a very high metabolism and he's a runner. His hands are large and spindly, but gentle. His gray-green eyes are deep but innocent in appearance. Oliver's wild hair, short chin and pointed nose give him an almost childish look, very youthful. He is the kind of man, that most woman would fall in love with at first sight. They would likely describe him, as simply gorgeous.

personality : What is Oliver like? Well he is a deep complex man with many different, varying sides to him. Thus making hard for anyone to truly get to know him. Really only his late wife, his brother, and his Gran have succeeded in this. That is however, not to say that he wasn't close with his parents, because he was. But he's been without them for over half his life.
Oliver is intelligent (he'd have to be, since he's a doctor), and quick on his feet. He's zany and when something excites him, he can be a bit bombastic. He is passionate and fiery. But funny and adorable, without at all meaning to be. Many times he's sweet and caring and gentle. But when he's been without companionship for a period of time, he can be grumpy and compassionless. As much as he'd like people to think that he's ok on his own, he's not. Oliver always needs a companion, someone to look after him and keep him in check.

history : Oliver Sebastian Welcott was the first child born to Elaine and James Welcott, and he was their pride and joy. The Welcotts had started their relationship later that most and got married at 34 and 36. A year later was when Oliver was born. He was unexpected, but they were ecstatic none the less. 4 years later, Elaine gave birth to their second child, also a boy, Tristan Frederic Welcott.
The family lived in a very large flat near to Buckingham Palace and enjoyed all that London had to offer them. Plays, Operas, boating excursions were a regular source of entertainment for the family. James and Elaine enjoyed taking the boys to museums and teaching them not only about their own culture, but that of others around the world. Especially American culture. They hoped to visit America as a family one day. They particularly hoped to go to more rural areas such as Colorado and Maine (to see a different view of the ocean). Living in London they didn't get much of that wide open, fresh air, that so many places in America had to offer to them.
The family's time together was short lived though. James and Elaine had been invited to a dinner party on a friends yatch. Oliver and Tristan, aged 10 and 6 now and been left with the Gran for the evening. When they'd all said good bye to each other that night, they never realized it would be not only the last time they would all be together, but the last time they would ever see each other again. A freak accident on the Thames took the life of James and Elaine and everyone else on the boat that night. It was a tragedy that would never be forgotten. 10 victims from 6 separate families lost their lives when a gas leak caused the vessel to explode.
Jane Welcott took it upon herself to raise her fine young grandsons. She taught them to be proper gentleman, how to treat women, and how to handle themselves in any situation. She sent them to the finest educational facilities London had to offer and encouraged them both in their career aspirations. Tristan, who loved to see plays and musicals in the West End, wanted to be a singer and actor, so Gran sent him to the finest acting and vocal coaches she could lay her hands on. Oliver desired to be a doctor and help as many people as he could. So Gran had him educated accordingly.
Oliver and Tristan bonded after the loss of their parents and really became the best of friends. They did everything and went most every where together. And tended to take a great interest in what the other was doing career wise and socially. As they grew older, they seemed to be the two most eligible bachelors in London, aside from Prince's Harry and William of course.
In medical school, Oliver met his future wife Lilian Sheppard. She was the most beautiful creature he had ever laid eyes on and the sweetest person he had ever encountered. It had taken him some time to work up the courage to ask her out, but when he did and she accepted without hesitation or excuse, their relationship took off like a rocket ship. Love like their's was rare and a joy to see. The couple adored each other and hated to be parted. At the time of their meeting, Oliver was a senior and Lilian a freshman, but they refused to let that stop them. As soon as Oliver was graduated, they became engaged and married within the year.
They had plants to travel, to have a family, to work in medicine together. They were going to conquer the world. But life was brought to a halt when Lilian was diagnosed with a Coronary Artery disease. She needed a heart transplant as soon as possible. But as these things go there was a waiting list 1 1/2 years long. Lilian was put on lists all over the country. But the disease progressed faster than anyone could have predicted, and Lillian passed away before the transplant was possible.
Being a Doctor, Oliver feels responsible for his beloved wife's passing. If he had only caught the signs sooner, she could have been put on a list sooner. There must have been something he could have done to slow the progression of the disease. Despite Gran and Tristan's insistence that there was nothing he could do, Oliver refuses to stop blaming himself and has turned into somewhat of a bitter, angry, and even cynical person. Tristan and Gran are afraid to leave him alone for any lengthy period of time.
Oliver needed to get out of London, at least for a little while. So he took his substantial savings and inheritance and moved to the place his mother had always longed to visit. Maine. Tristan frequently visits his older brother for a few months at a time and Gran occasionally makes the trip. Tristan and Gran both hoped that Oliver would resume his medical work, but it seems that is not the cards. Instead Oliver has become somewhat of a recluse. Can someone save this lonely soul?

Oliver watched over his wife as she lay in the hospital bed in their living room. She already looked so pale and lifeless. The poor woman was barely holding on. His sweet Lilian had only a few hours left before her young life would be extinguished. The thought of life without her was becoming more than Oliver could bear. Tears welled up behind his big gray green eyes and began to spill over, as he leaned forward to kiss Lilian's cold forehead.
As he sat back down he saw Lilian's eyes flutter open. For a second she stared at the ceiling before looking his way. The same beautiful smile graced her now dry lips. Oliver gave her a big courageous smile, and gently taking her hand, he caressed it before holding it to his lips. Don't cry for me my love she said weakly and gave his hand a little squeeze I will always be in your heart....Please....don't be sad for my sake my sweet Oli
Oliver's head dropped and he began to sob uncontrollably. I-I'm not strong enough to loose you Lil....It's t-too...soon He wiped away the tears with the back of his hand, but kept his head down, unable to look at his wife. He didn't want her to see the fear in his eyes.
Oli her voice entered his ears. Do something for me? Oliver nodded Anything dear Lilian sighed softly. Hold me.....Hold me till I've gone Gathering his courage, he nodded and lowering the bed railing, the tall, thin, man crawled into the bed and took his small wife into his arms. She rested her head against his chest and his arms closed around her and smiled contentedly. Despite the oxygen, her breaths grew shallower. But she still looked up into the eyes of her husband and kissed him with everything she had.
As she pulled away from the kiss her small hand touched his cheek and she said I love you Oli for what was to be the final time. With one last touch, Lilian's soul left her body, which fell limp in the arms of her beloved husband.
No...Lil. Oliver said through gritted teeth and he clasped her lifeless body to his own Lil! He yelled as the grief overtook him. "God please!! Bring her back! Bring her back! Oliver pleased though he knew it was a hopeless case. She was gone. He would never again hold her, kiss her, make love to her, hear her voice. In a few short years Lilian had come into his life and left what seemed just as quickly.
As Oliver buried his face in Lilian's shoulder, he felt the hand of his younger brother Tristan grip his shoulder in an effort to comfort him. But comforted was something he couldn't be right now. It was something he didn't want to be right now. Oliver was angry. Beyond angry He was irate. But he did his best not to let it show to his brother. Tristan was offering the only thing he could.
Oliver felt too hands, one on either side of his face gently lift his head and he looked up into the eyes of his dear Gran. Oliver...don't be angry. Grieve Lilian, mourn her, miss her. But don't be angry dear. Lil...she wouldn't want that and you know it love.
Oliver gritted his teeth "It's so...hard Gran....It's so hard. Gran kissed his forehead and patted his back.I know Oli...but you must try....promise you'll try. He sighed and nodded I will try.
