Well, that was the best way to describe it. Not that Leila minded at all. Well, except for how Alex had found out. Her brother finding Daniel pinning her against the wall while they showered wasn’t the best way. That morning had not been a fun one but it had forced her and Daniel to tell everyone finally. Her father was fairly reluctant about it because Daniel was older then Leila and he found that weird. And of course, her mother had pulled her aside later on to talk about her condition and what Daniel knew and that was nothing. Leila didn’t want to tell him unless it came down to them getting really serious about a future. Bringing it up too soon would just be awkward. Her friends could say they didn’t act any different around her, but some did now. She wanted their relationship on solid grounds before she said anything at all. Plus, that was something you had to find a way to bring up and who knew how to do that? Her whole family knew about it so it was easy talking to them about things. With Daniel, it was different. Though part of her wanted to tell him, the other part was terrified.
Leila was so happy with Daniel and it had been awhile since she had been that way. She had been happy with Samuel but this was different. Maybe because before she was a little more immature then she was now. Now, Leila couldn’t wait to see him but respected him enough to let him do what he needed or wanted. And she whole heartedly trusted him. That was hard for her because she had been hurt before by her boyfriend from before Samuel. So this week had been hard on her. Leila had ended up in the hospital because her condition had caused her such severe pain she needed to be hooked up to a morphine drip. But because Daniel had no clue what she was going through, all her family told him was she was really sick and didn’t want visitors. When she was lucid she would text him and it had thankfully only been three days. Now she out and finally back into a routine.
Thankfully, she no longer had to do her treatments. They had enough of her eggs in storage so she was on the pill. Now her cycle could get more controlled so she didn’t need pain medications. That and she wouldn’t worry when with Daniel. Before even with condoms she worried because of her treatments. Now there was never any reason for her to worry. Though she wanted a family, and this condition was hard on her, she just didn’t want a kid this early in their relationship. It would just complicate things and Leila didn’t need that. By December she would have her diploma and could start her college courses in the winter. Plus, her relationship with Daniel was still so new in a sense. Anything more complicated then what they were currently at would not be good. It could potentially ruin them. Or at least, that was her thought process because half the time her mind went to the worse case scenario no matter what.
Anyways, now that she was out of the hospital, she could enjoy being with him again. Because of the start of the founders fair, most businesses were closed, including the restaurant. So she got to spend the whole day with him. It had started off with the parade then they had spent pretty much the rest of the day at the fair. It had been a lot of fun and it felt good to laugh after the past week she had endured. They could finally walk about acting like a couple without any worries. Hugs that lingered a bit too long and kisses stolen under the ferries wheel no longer had to be hidden. It was perfect and Leila loved it.
She loved him.
Leila had known it for awhile but being more logical she was held back with saying how she felt. As her fingers were laced through his hand while they walked down to the forewords before the dance, she kept a silly grin on her face. Occasionally she would take a glance sideways and him and just take a moment to pause in thought. Yeah, she could see them doing this for years to come. Then again, it could be because she was so happy she just wanted to stay this way. Mostly, Leila had liked him for so long she just didn’t want anyone else. Those words sounded cheesy even in her own mind but they were true. Plus, their whole relationship was cheesy and made people gag-mainly her brothers. Leila didn’t care so much because she was happy and her parents noticed that too. She didn’t randomly breakdown crying because of the cards God had given her. Now, she could go a whole day with only a casual thought about the road ahead for her. That was thanks to Daniel and no matter how much some members of her family disliked their relationship-be it at first or still-no one could deny Leila’s happiness. Daniel had brought that out in her and she didn’t want that to go away.
After she had changed from her jeans and long sleeve, Leila was in a blue party dress. Since she didn’t own many dresses and couldn’t really afford a new one, she tried to make it more casual with her leather jacket. The dresses satin top made her feel awkward at first but she thought she did well to bring it down a little bit. Her hair was left down in it’s relaxed, wavy state while her make-up was fairly simple. Her mother was girly enough but being around several brothers, some of her wardrobe bordered on tom boyish. To her it was comfortable so what she wore now felt weird. Plus, there was a chill and she didn’t have nylons to wear tonight. Hopefully the barn would open shortly after the fireworks so they could get warm. Her free arm gripped at the monkey he hand won her. It was pressed against her body as her hand fiddled with her phone that was in her pocket. They had been out on dates before but this was a lot more on display. People she had and was going to school with had seen them around the fair and were asking if they’d be at the dance. A couple couldn’t believe she was actually with him and some thought it’d be a passing thing. After all, how often did the brother really get with his best friend’s sister? They knew of none. It hurt Leila how negative some of their comments had been but she was brushing it off.
They were not the ones in this relationship-her and Daniel were. As long as he didn’t hurt her and he seemed happy, Leila didn’t care. If she felt like he wasn’t making him happy or he didn’t something awful, she would leave. Until then, she wanted people to keep their opinions to themselves. Even her own brothers. While she loved all four of them dearly, they needed to leave her and Daniel at peace. He wasn’t forcing her to do anything. He wasn’t doping anything to upset her ever. He didn’t even push her to talk about what she hid from him. Daniel was the perfect guy. Any girl would be lucky to have him. She was lucky to have him. Leila couldn’t have been blessed with anyone better. If they ever broke up, any she dated after would be compared to Daniel. Even once married and settled down, she’d probably still wonder what could have been and compare her husband to him. That was awful but a love this great-this passionate-was rare. It either came and went, leaving you wondering; or stayed, filling your life with the greatest happiness one could have. Leila hoped to keep that in her life forever.
Finally she spoke up. ”Where do you want to sit for the fireworks?” There were already plenty of people scattered about from what she could tell. Hopefully that meant it was starting soon. She hadn’t looked at the clock on her phone in awhile because she didn’t want to see some stupid text or Facebook message.

Perfect! Damn Alex for coming into his house that fateful day a few days ago. Here he was thinking they would have been safe in his house to be together with no one finding out. What happened? Alex just had to use the key he had given him to come surprise him with a visit. Not only was the visit a surprise for him it was a large one for Alex. Probably one Alex never wanted to see. Walking into the bathroom and seeing his best friend in the shower with his little sister. What can he say? He’d liked Leila for a long time and he already felt like he was part of the family. Was it so wrong that he wanted to be more than just “that guy who came to dinner,”? He wanted more. He wanted to actually belong in the family. There was only one way to do that and that was by being with the girl he’d grown to care deeply for over the years.
Telling her parents was not the best or most fun thing he ever had to do but they did it. When he told her father what was going on he nearly had a heart attack with the look that he gave him. For a split second in his life he feared that Mr. Scott was going to kill him. It was a good thing that they had left the part about him deflowering their little princess out. Had they known that then it would have been a blood bath ending in his own death at the hands of the Scott boys.
What surprised him the most was when everything calmed down and they were sitting around the table and having dinner with one another. It was like they were one big happy family again. Not only that but her father took him to the side and they had a heart to heart talk. It wasn’t hard to assure the man that he had Leila’s best interests at heart and he never intended to hurt her. For some reason he felt like it all had to tie into what she was keeping secret from him. Even with that he still respected his girlfriend enough to not answer and know she would tell him what was wrong on her own time. The one good thing was he doubted he would ever need to keep a secret from her.
Being out though. It all came back to that! They were out as a couple. He still needed to check in with Jordan and see what he was going to say about this. Well that would be after today seeing as today was a very special day for them. Today they had gone to the founders fair as a couple on their first date out in the city together. Now it would be known that Daniel and Leila were a couple. He knew without a doubt that nothing could tear them apart now. It just felt like there was a huge weight that was lifted off of his shoulders now knowing they could be together in public and not sneak around like children whose parents said they couldn’t see one another.
They had spent the entire day together and it had been amazing! What all did they do? Well they stopped at food booths and tried some of the carnival food and then they went and played games together. Most of the times he let her win and it made him happy seeing the smile on her face when she beat him. What really made him happy was when he beat all the other guys and won her the stuffed animals that were now all in the back seat of his car with the exception of the monkey he had just won her. This was how everything was supposed to be. From the kisses under the Ferris Wheel to the hugs they could give one another.
Now that they were changed they would be able to go into the barn and have a dance when the dance portion of today started. It would be one of their first major public appearances and he couldn’t be any more excited than he was right now. He was wearing nice clothes and not the jeans and shirt he came here in. What? He had to look good with his beautiful date! As they made their way down he noticed how she kept looking over at him. The smile on his face grew as he stopped and brought her in close to him and stole a kiss from her. People around? Who cared let them see!
Where were they going to sit? He stroked his chin as he thought about it for a second. When he spotted the dogwood tree with a bench under it he squeezed her hand. “Under the dogwood tree.” A smile spread on his lips as he led her to the tree as its leaves were changing colors. Once they were at the bench he sat down and slipped his arms around her to hold her close to him. As the fireworks started he smiled as he looked at them. It was such a beautiful sight to behold. “It’s just as perfect and beautiful as you are.” Leaning over he gently kissed her cheek. His thumb lightly rubbing over the back of her hand as he held onto her. “I love you, Leila.” The words soft as they left his lips. They were only audible enough for her to hear him. No need for prying ears to listen in on their conversation.

Her legs crossed to make sure if the wind picked it up no one caught an eyeful. Her brother had already seen too much of her. One arm went around his back while the other rested across his stomach. The monkey laid down on the bench next to her as she breathed in his scent. The smell of his cologne and soap. Sometimes after work he smelt like hand sanitizer along with it all. It was familiar and made her feel safe. As the fireworks went off, she felt contentment fill her body. The Founder’s Fair had always been a favorite of hers. Last time she had come here had been with Samuel. Hopefully future ones she could continue to go with Daniel, though. No one knew what the future held but one could always be hopeful about things. Which was a new thing for Leila-hope. Usually being a realist she didn’t care about silly little emotions like hope and day dreaming. If only Alex could see that Daniel was helping her for the better. And hopefully Alex and Daniel’s friendship could survive this. If it didn’t then she’d feel horrible about things.
Her head leaned backwards against his shoulder as she watched the fireworks. She laughed lightly as he complimented her and pressed a kiss to her cheek. ”Yeah, yeah bucko I get it. You want to get lucky later.” She moved to lean her head against his cheek. As his thumb ran along the back of her hand, she flexed her fingers outwards before tightening around his palm. Leila gave a gentle squeeze while watching the lights explode overhead. The air around them was crisp with it being September. It was tolerable unless a really strong breeze came through. Curled up against Daniel she didn’t care much. She could just get her warmth from him. And the barn later.
Leila figured watching the fireworks would continue on in silence. She herself kept fairly quiet as she sat there. That silence didn’t really end right off, even after Daniel said he loved her. At first, she sort of avoided eye contact as her heart rate picked up. It’s not like she didn’t feel the same way she just didn’t think he’d say it first. Well, then again, he was the one who often spoke up about things first. After all, he had climbed through her window to tell her he didn’t really care about the reasons why they shouldn’t be together, just the reasons why they should. It was unfair to him how she still held part of herself back. Leila pulled away from him slightly to look over his face. From what she could tell he was sincere with his words. It melted her inside as she leaned forward to press a firm but loving kiss to his lips. Her hands cupped along his jaw line, pulling him towards her face.
When Leila pulled back, she pressed her forwards against his as she moved her face from side to side. The tip of her nose rubbed against his as her lips curved upwards in happiness. ”I love you too.” Well, for their first time letting the town see them as a couple they might as well go all out. One of Leila’s hands moved up his jaw to his ears then brushed through his hair. ”I really do love you.” She pulled her head back to look at him in the eyes before she chuckled. ”What did my dad tell you the other night to where you decided now was a good time to tell me how you felt?” She couldn’t help but tease him. Leila wasn’t stupid about her father talking to him. She was surprised none of her brothers had joined in as well. They usually did that with any boyfriend since she got hurt by her first one.

Today was perfect! Nothing could go wrong for them. Sure the last time he thought that something ended up going wrong. What was that you ask? Well if you count her brother walking in on them while they had been in the shower. That was what had ruined the perfect day! Not only that but he was pissed still at his best friend for this “betrayal” as one would call it. Why would he see this as a betrayal anyways? He was looking out for Leila and would take care of her better than anyone else in this town could. They had been friends for so long that nothing could change what would happen. Well hopefully nothing would change it. After what happened with Alex there could be a small doubt.
Shaking it out of his mind he plastered a smile on his lips as Leila curled up next to him on the bench. Now this moment in time was perfect. They were together out in public and having more fun than they could be cooped up in a house just watching movies. In the back of his mind he was making a note to talk to Alex later on. That was a friendship that was in need of major repair once he calmed down and got used to the idea of his best friend dating his little sister. His fingers ran through her hair as she leaned her head against his shoulder. A small laugh left him as she told him she knew he wanted to get lucky. “Well if comments help me get lucky then I’ll give them, but I do like giving you comments when they’re true.” He leaned in and held her closer to him. “Being here with the most beautiful woman on the planet is the best thing ever.”
The fireworks and the dance were going to be a perfect ending to a perfect night. If anyone tried to ruin it they were going to have hell to pay. He would make sure no one or nothing got in the way of their perfect night. There was nothing else he needed right now than the girl he loved and cared deeply for. As he felt more heat in their kiss everything else left his mind as he pulled her gently onto her lap making sure her dress stayed tucked down. His hands on her side as he kissed her lovingly. His arms circled around her middle as he kept her tightly to him as the fireworks continued to go off overhead.
Another small laugh leaving his lips as he rubbed the tip of his nose against hers. Talk about a great sign of affection for someone. When she spoke up and told him she returned his live he sighed and grinned. He didn’t feel like a fool anymore for telling her how much he cared about her. A small grin came to his lips as he looked into her eyes. “You have no idea how happy that makes me to hear you love me too. For a second there I thought you figured you made a mistake and didn’t want me anymore.” He teased playfully as he gently poked her sides.
This was the best part about their relationship! They could tease one another and be this way and still know they cared for each other. His hand came up and he gently stroked her cheek as he thought about it. “You know, the usual talk.” He puffed out his chest and imitated an elder man’s voice. “You better take good care of my daughter and never hurt her or I’ll break your neck.” He laughed for a second before leaning in and kissing her once more. “I calmed him down and made sure he knew that I would never do anything to hurt you. I love you too much to do anything that would hurt you. Besides, I think my cousin would kick my ass before she let me hurt you.” He grinned as he gave her a loving squeeze as the finale started.

She leaned her head so her lips brushed against his ear. ”Well you don’t have to worry about flattering me to get what you want.” She pressed a quick kiss to his ear then pulled away. Despite having less experience then him, she was catching up in this teasing game. And it was a lot of fun. Still. It’s not like their relationship was based just on the physical aspect of things. Proof when Alex had barged in on them. Leila had a complete melt down and Daniel had just comforted her. While things were on the way to being mended on her end at least, she wasn’t so sure if Alex was ready to forgive Daniel yet. After all he not only caught them in a very intimate moment but the fact they were friends was hard on him. She herself was getting on her brother’s ass to fix things. Though they had kept this from him, there really was no reason for him to be mad. They had a valid point plus technically she had said something. When their younger brother was bugging her about who she was dating, Leila said that they wanted to wait to see how they worked together first-if it was serious or not. So really, she had told him just not that is was Daniel.
The back of her neck turned slightly pink as she curled into him more. ”You really are a big softie. One of the many things I like about you.” Leila liked that he didn’t care about being sweet around her. And it wasn’t like it was just occasionally either. He was constantly telling her things that made her smile while her skin changed various shades of red. Sometimes a family member heard them but she usually threw something. The heft depended on who they were. Another part of her guilt-he was a catch with always saying the right things. Leila felt like she just muddled everything up. She felt awkward saying sweet nothings as some people referred to them. Still, she tried her best. Leila was letting herself open up to Daniel and new things in general.
As she leaned into the kiss, he moved her onto his lap. Leila applied pressure against his body as she deepened their kisses. Every time their lips met she could swear she fell for him more and more. Maybe it was just the physical attraction, maybe it was both, she couldn’t be sure. All she knew was she always wanted to be near him. And if she wasn’t near him, she at least wanted to know that he was alright. That may make her possessive or crazy but maybe that’s what true love did? Ok, now that was a crazy thought for even her, probably anyone. To her, true love meant the one she was meant to be with forever. The man she married and settled down with. There were moments, when she sat and let herself daydream, that she wanted that. Leila did imagine if they got married-at her parent’s church in a gown the new shop owner made. Their family would be there and they’d just spend the evening dancing and laughing until they decided they couldn’t wait to be alone. After they snuck off onto their honeymoon and the rest of their lives.
Yeah, she was dreaming real big and real crazy.
Leila didn’t really want to pull away from the tender moment but they were in a very public place. If they continued it might get a little...handsy. And all she needed was her brothers or father to hear that she and Daniel were pawing at each other in the middle of the park. They would hunt him down so fast that people’s heads would spin. As she played with his hair, she shook her head, a very gentle laugh leaving her lips. ”No, I’d never think you were a mistake. I’ll always want you.” Her lips pressed another tender kiss to his before she moved back from him again. Tonight really was going better then she could hope. The whole day had gone better then she could have ever imagined. She bit down on her lip, wondering if she should even speak her next words. ”Actually, I’ve felt this way for a little bit now I was just scared that you felt the same way-thinking you made a mistake and whatnot. After everything with Alex…” She hook her head as she turned her gaze downwards.
At least with them, things were easy to try to make better. Bad moods usually didn’t last long because the other was trying to make the one who was upset smile. Ok, usually Daniel was trying to make Leila smile. She had to admit-she acted borderline depressed at times. Once she pulled away from him some, she brought a hand up to cover her face in embarrassment. ”Oh I am so sorry. I thought he wouldn’t do that with you because he’s known you so long. Just be glad Alex didn’t say anything. You’d never be able to have kids in the future.” Leila was very careful to say you. Despite dreaming of a future with him, she tiptoed around certain phrasing of things. If not, then it’d be so much hard to tell him the truth later on. Leila shifted her weight around so she could still be on his lap but look up at the sky. With how she sat on him, she could rest her head sideways on top of his, curling around the side of his. She was careful not to have her hair in his face, blocking his view of the fireworks. ”Well, I am glad to hear that. Though I’m not sure if Caitlyn would get to you first. I have four brothers and my father. You’re screwed if we don’t get married or I’m not the one breaking up with you.”
Leila said that more just to have it out there. Truthfully, unless he cheated or physically hurt her, she couldn’t see their relationship ending in their foreseeable future. A lot of couples may think that way but this was different. They had history and a truly deep connection on their side. One like the fireworks. It had slowly built up, little sparks at a time over the years. Sparks that not everyone noticed until they were bright, brightly flourishing. Finally it got towards the end where it exploded into this deeper romance and passion. While the fireworks may have ended, that didn’t mean they were gone. No, the remnants of those sparks were always in the air waiting to be stirred again. Until the next event of their life exploded out for them, and perhaps everyone else, to see.

Oh Leila was playing really dirty! He grinned as he leaned in close and pressed a kiss to her nose. “Same darling, anything you want just ask for it.” A smile spreads on his lips as he holds her close to him. She was amazingly perfect and today was the best. The way she had gotten into the whole teasing game was astounding. It was like she had been doing this for years now. It was good that they were able to tease and have fun now without the risk of Alex running into them and being pissed off. Well he probably still would be pissed off but he had no right! Leila was a grown woman and could do whatever she wished. What needed to happen was he needed to talk to Alex and clear things up. It would make things so much easier.
As they snuggled there close on the bench as the fireworks went off he couldn’t help but feel a warmth spreading through him. He was here with the girl that he cared about and always would. Nothing could separate them not even her older brother. Hearing her call him a big softie made him smile. He brought his hand up and gently stroked her cheek. “Shhhh, don’t let any of the other guys know they’ll beat me up.” His smile turning into a grin as he teased her. In all actuality he really didn’t care if the others knew how in touch with his soft side he was. Around Leila nothing else really mattered but her.
His arms slipped around her body to give her support while she was sitting on his lap as they kissed. The one thing he didn’t need to have happen was her falling off his lap and busting her head open. That would be bad for both of them. Feeling her lips against his made him so happy. This was where he wanted to be right now. Not at home in bed or on the couch watching a movie, not on a double date with Jordan and that girl he had been pushing on him and not alone chilling with Alex. No, everything he wanted and needed was here in this very special moment he was sharing with Leila. Once she graduated High School and got into college then the rest of their lives together could begin.
What? You think it’s too big of a dream for them? Well they had known one another for a really long time and were already family. Why not dream big? They practically know everything about one another already.
As they pulled out of their kiss he grinned once more as he looked deeply into her chocolate brown eyes. There was something special burning inside of them and he couldn’t help but get a good feeling when he looked into them. When she confirmed that everything was okay and he wasn’t a mistake his grin grew into a wide smile. “You have no idea how happy that makes me to hear you say that.” His hand slipped to her waist as they kissed once more. It was short but sweet. As she spoke up and then looked down he frowned a little. Her a mistake? How was that even possible!?
Moving his hand up he gently placed his pointer finger under her chin and tilted her head up so he was looking into her eyes. “Not once did it ever cross my mind that being with you is a mistake. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to be aside from meeting your brother. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be together with the smartest, funniest, most beautiful girl in the entire world.” His thumb gently stroked her cheek as he placed a kiss to her lips, cheek and then nose. “I’ve wanted to be with you for a while now so there’s no way us being together is wrong or a mistake. If anyone ever tries to tell you otherwise you just ignore them and walk away.” It was true! They didn’t need someone to come out and tell them that being together was wrong. They loved and cared for one another on such a level it was too hard to put into words.

I may have to do some research because I am getting a little bored.” Leila ran her forefinger over his shirt. She hadn’t seen him in something so nice in awhile and it was nice knowing he did this just for her. Well, sort of. It was for the dance but he was going with her so she liked to think it was for her. Not like it’d last long once back at his house. After not seeing him for a few days, she was going to spend the night at his house. Leila knew her parents weren’t fond of it but not like they could really stop her. She helped with paying bills and was over eighteen. As long as she still went to classes and work, they let her do whatever she pleased. Oh, and now she made sure to tell Alex if she wasn’t going to be home as a hint to just maybe call Daniel’s house first. They didn’t need a round two of that sight and him getting angry.
No one really had much business to say anything to be honest. It’s not like they were rushing off to the alter or anything so no one had to worry about that. Plus, it was her choice. They waited until she was legal and he wasn’t a bad guy. Daniel had a steady career, had his own place and didn’t do anything illegal. If things did get more serious, she could see herself being happy. Still, one had to be cautiously optimistic. She’d be done high school this winter and after she’d have college courses. It was hard finding time to see each other some days as was with her morning classes and sometimes working in the evenings. Not everyone could put up with seeing their partner that little. Some people left and some, the worst ones, just strayed and stayed in a relationship out of some sense of honor. They felt like they had to. Those relationships were the worst. Leila would rather be broken up with then find out whoever she was with had lost interest and strayed but stayed with her because of the years together or they were married. That would be the worst kind of heart break.
”You’re secret is safe. For now. But remember, us women never forget anything. Don’t piss me off or else this might be brought up at one of my family gatherings.” Though if she ever did that, her brothers would never let him hear the end of it. Her family was one that often exchanged gag gifts so he would get many from them. She knew her brothers all too well and many of the things they may get would probably not be appropriate anyways. Not like she was appropriate in general nor Daniel. Not only just how they acted, such as now with pretty much making out on the bench. No, Leila had a pretty foul mouth when she let herself go. That was great when her and Daniel felt like being, erm, adventurous in the bedroom or when arguing with her siblings. Sometimes they were so shocked with what she said she could gain the upper hand easily.
Leila was glad to know he loved her and that he liked knowing she loved him. Maybe it’s because she tried her hardest to please people, she was always self conscious of how others felt. Perhaps that was one of the issues in her past two long term relationships. She had some smaller ones that only lasted a couple months but she never really counted those. ”Well I’m glad it makes you happy. If it didn’t we might have some issues as to you being hypocritical.” Her hands pinched at his sides playfully while the mood stayed an uplifting one. Still, her melancholy moment didn’t really last too long. Daniel, being his always sweet self, did what he could to make her feel better. As she gazed into his eyes, she felt herself getting choked up. She softly nodded before he pressed tender kisses on various places on her face. ”It’s just hard. I’ve never been this serious with anyone. Nor had feelings this strong. After the other day I just got scared is all.” Leila drew in a deep breath as she looked around.
The fireworks had stopped and a few hundred yards away she could see the barn doors were now open. ”Maybe we should head up to the dance.” Despite having a fairly good night, she kept her voice low. As they started towards the barn, she hugged her stuffed animal close while she flicked her middle fingernail and thumbnail together. That was a habit when her thoughts were racing. It was true about her not ever having feelings this intense before. Despite being with Sam for a year, she didn’t yearn to be around him when they were apart. When together she was happy but she wasn’t nearly jumping out of her skin like with Daniel. When her and Daniel were together, each moment was fairly close to perfect. So many memories had already been crammed together and they talked about future family gatherings and trips like they were normal things to plan. That made her happy and terrified all at once. A smile formed on her lips as she thought more on it. When her mom used to tell her stories about meeting their father, this was close to how she described what she felt. Maybe this is exactly what they felt? It was something that you really couldn’t describe to anyone unless they understood the feeling themselves. If something happened to tear them apart or if she lost him for any reason, Leila honestly wasn’t sure how she could heal from either situation. If she ever did move on, it’d take years. That’s how in love she was.
If one took into account the years knowing each other, it really wasn’t surprising that she said she loved him after a little over two and a half months, almost three. They probably knew more about one another then most couples did, making the bond deeper. That meant a lot more to her then one might figure. Some girls were happy with finding out little by little and she was sure there was more to learn but she liked that they already knew plenty. There were no ugly secrets besides her condition and that wasn’t too terrible. A lot of women hid this kind of thing from people because it was too tough to talk about. Most everything else came easy for them to talk about. And if they didn’t have anything to talk about then that was fine as well. Leila wasn’t someone who felt like having every moment filled with conversation or something going on. If someone didn’t feel comfortable in every moment with their partner by their side, then they might as well end it there.
As they drew closer to the barn, Leila felt a bit nervous. It felt like she was naked with Daniel for a second time but in a different sense. As they stood waiting with the crowd to go in, her hand that had the fingers moving while she thought stopped. They flexed into a fist where it stayed for a few seconds before releasing and then she did it again. To say Leila was nervous as this was their first public date. In this small of a town, most everyone knew Daniel as her brother’s friend so knowing him as being with Leila was sure to drew some criticism. As long as no one said anything, then she’d be happy. She just wanted to continue to enjoy this night with just him. Sure, some people could talk to them but she came here to be with Daniel. Not the town, just him and Leila would get what she wanted.
And what she wanted was to dance with Daniel.

A fake gasp left his lips as she told him that she was getting a little bored. “How can you be getting bored, darling? Look at where we’re at!” He teased as he looked into her eyes while her finger ran down his shirt. It was so nice being able to come out here on a date all dressed up. There was nothing better than them just being able to be together for once with no one coming in and interrupting them. It was the one thing he hated about the day that Alex just busted into his bathroom and caught them. He still needed to have a talk with Alex about that. Sorry bro, it wasn’t cool! They had been naked for crying out loud! He could have at least waited until they were done! Not only that but he was going to have to warn Alex when not to come busting into his house when he had Leila over. That was if they ever talked again.
His arms held her close to his chest while the fireworks continued to go off overhead while they had their private moment together. No one should ever say anything about what was going on between them. There were people out there who were married to people way older than they were. Some who were ten, eleven or twelve years apart. It was really annoying when those hypocrites sat there and judged them. He continued to hold her close as he leaned in and kissed her again. Nothing was going to drag him away from his girl and that was final. Try all they want but this was it! In his heart he knew that this was the girl for him and she always would be.
The smile on his face got bigger as she promised not to tell anyone. “Makes me happy you’re going to keep my secret.” His hand came up and he gently stroked her cheek. “I doubt I’ll ever do anything to piss you off or make you mad at me. Besides taking so long to finally ask you out.” Cupping her cheek he leaned in closer and smiled. Who needed the fireworks anymore? They had one another and that was all that was needed. After these few months he knew everything was going to be fine between them for the long haul. They were like the puzzle pieces that fit perfectly well together.
Knowing that she loved him was one of the best feelings in the world. It made all those other girlfriends he had in the past seem like nothing. One came close to being the one but it turned out all she was was just a college run and that was it. To him she was everything. “No way! I can be the only one here who loves!” He teased but then got serious once more. “I was scared you wouldn't say you loved me back.” The fact others would see it as too soon didn't need to be said. It was one of those things you just knew was added in there. Stupid other people not realizing how well they knew one another already. After he smoothed her hair out he slipped his arms around her. “There’s nothing to be scared about anymore. You’re stuck with me until you say you don’t want me anymore.” He knew in his heart his feelings were going to be here a very long time.
When the fireworks finally stopped he looked back into her eyes and nodded. “Ready to dance?” Casually he picked her up in his arms and carried her for a bit before placing her gently back on her feet. His hand went into hers as he laced their fingers while they walked. Seeing her with that stuffed animal made him happy. She loved it and it was perfect. Just knowing winning something like that for her and she liked it made him smile. As they got closer he could feel her body tensing as she walked. She was nervous about this dance. Bringing their hands up he kissed her hand reassuringly. When it was finally in sight he stopped and turned to look at her. His fingers resting gently on her chin as he looked into her eyes. “There’s nothing to worry about okay? Nothing they say or do can ever hurt us, that’s all we need to remember. We've done nothing wrong so it doesn't matter what they think.” Leaning in he placed another kiss to her lips before taking her hand again and leading her inside the barn for the dance.

He knew just what to do to push her buttons, even if it was just in a teasing matter. She leaned forward close to his ear and turned up one corner of her lip playfully. ”Ah then I guess I don’t need to try anything out I found.” When she pulled away there was a shimmer in her eyes as she sent her little smirk his way. Despite some of the stress they had with “coming out” she tried to keep the same levels of playfulness and affection between them. Not just sensually either. The two had a great relationship, even for just starting out. Sure, a lot of it was because they were shut into his apartment a lot. They had done so many things from cooking to games to watching movies curled up on the couch. And the conversations were so wide spread. Of course, she was careful about certain ones but that was partially because of Leila’s own uncertainty of what her future held. She didn’t really want to mention marriage or kids or anything like that yet. It was too hard of a conversation for her to initiate.
Every corny thing that people can thing or say probably applied to this relationship. She couldn’t think of any serious fight they had had since that first night. There were stupid little squabbles but they were usually about what to eat or what to watch. Never anything serious. Actually, aside from her first relationship, she hardly ever fought with anyone outside her family. That was surprising considering how she wasn’t the perfect lady like some people liked. Still, Daniel didn’t care about that. He liked that she was foul mouthed, didn’t always take hours dolling herself up and played around with her brothers like she was one of them. Yes, she took care in her appearance and grooming but growing up with mostly men in the house didn’t leave her a super girly girl. Some guys-like Daniel-seemed to like how she balanced that out. Many she met around her own age didn’t. They liked the girls in super low cut tops with skirts up so high that their bits practically hanging out. Leila may wear things with some sex appeal but she did have standards.
She hated keeping their kisses so chaste in public, especially since when he was so close to her the flames of desire licked within her. This was the only man who made her feel this way as well as so many other ways. She felt so light hearted with joy all the time. At random moments some memory they had would creep into her mind placing a silly grin on her face no matter where she was. School was the most awkward place to have it happen if a teacher saw. ”Yes, well it’s really the only good secret I have to keep now. We’re not hiding our relationship so I have to be able to keep something to myself. Unless you‘ve got something even better for me to hide then this little one wouldn‘t be so bad to let slip.” Leila’s fingers fiddled with a button as they continued their banter while other people moved around them. She knew they could head up but didn’t want to just yet. She was enjoying this moment with him before they were clearly visible as a couple to people. Not that they weren’t here but the shadows of the night could hide some things. Especially with such conversations as this. These were intimate things no one else needed to hear in her opinion.
”I was just too afraid to say it first. Most guys run when a girl says I love you first.” She had only said it to one other guy before but there wasn’t as much emotion as there was now. There were times she felt guilty thinking about it, but, truthfully, Samuel was never the one. He still loved his wife and Leila was just lonely. She thought the tow of them would work but really, they didn’t as they were better suited as friends. She could kick his ass around like she did with her brothers. With Daniel she could do that but then the moments turned tender in an instant. Not always tender in a naughty way but they could start with wrestling around and then just end up holding one another close for a bit of time. If she could keep starting her days like that, she’d be happy. As he pulled her close, she buried her face in his neck. ”I know I don’t need to but I still am. Everything about us scares me.”
As they were walking up to the barn, she couldn’t help but think about how he said she was stuck with him until she no longer wanted him. That was pretty heavy words to think about. Even if he was just saying them because of it being a sweet moment, that terrified her even more. She didn’t like such things being said if someone wasn’t serious about it. She had been told before that she was loved and the only one for them but that hadn’t been the truth. No, Leila was just second best. With knowing Daniel for years, it’d be worse if he chose someone else over her or didn’t mean what he was saying would be just as bad. That along with everything else set her stomach up in knots. Only when he pressed a kiss to her hand did she start to relax. ”It’s our first, real date. I get to be nervous.” A laugh left her lips as she bumped his side. ”Technically we’ve done plenty that could be considered wrong but I’ll let it slide.”
Once they were inside, they found a table to set their things down on. This barn had always been fairly well heated so she knew if she slipped her jacket off she’d be fine. Thankfully, she wasn’t the only one dressed up in semi-formal wear. She wouldn’t be the odd dog out. After she covered her money up with her jacket, she turned to Daniel. ”So are you ready to dance somewhere else besides your living room?” Leila’s arm extended as she made her way to the edges of the dance floor.

When she playfully punched his arm it didn’t hurt but he rubbed it anyways just to let her think she got him good. In reality when she was pissed off and hit you then you would feel how strong she really was. Because of all her brothers she grew up stronger than any other girl and he actually liked that. It meant that as they kept growing in their relationships and he took her to places she wouldn’t be one of the rich bitches who just let things happen without voicing an objection. She was going to be the girl that stood up and voiced her opinion on what should happen and what should be done. That was another thing he liked about her.
“Hey, hey! Don’t get rash here. I’m all for trying out new things that you found out.” Giving her a wink he leaned over and captured her lips again in a kiss. If anything could get that smirk off it was him when he kissed her. Oh she was not going to win this battle. When he pulled out of the kiss he looked around. What? He didn’t care who saw them anymore now that they were out of the closet so to speak. What made it even better was if and when any of her ex-boyfriends saw them together. That would be the icing on the cake that he would enjoy. They had no idea what they were missing out on by breaking up with this beauty.
The one thing he had figured out about their relationship was that it was exactly like the movies to a certain degree. Look at it! She was his best friends little sister and she had a crush on him, next he ended up liking her, they finally come out and tell one another how they feel, they kiss and boom! Now they’re in one of the best relationships ever! If you look at that and then in real life it was like when two guys became best friends and the one had a sister who was amazing it was like a “hey, I have an amazing little sister and if you two date and get married then we will be family,” kind of ordeal. To him it was none of that, to him it was something that actually felt right and like it was supposed to happen. The fact it took him this long displeased him but now they were together.
It was time for them to just relax and have fun! He couldn’t wait to take her to one of the high school games so he could kiss her there and have all the teachers see. It’s not like she was underage or anything! He was free to do so for all that mattered. As the subject of secrets crawled up on them he sighed and turned to look her in the eyes. His hand gently took hers as he looked at her with the most serious expression he could muster. “You’re right, I have this huge secret that I need to tell you and get off my chest.” A long sigh left his lips as he paused for a large dramatic effect. “I’m really an alien that came here from, Athaiz; a planet in the Andromeda galaxy. You have to promise to keep this secret from everyone. If your FBI finds out about me then they will hunt me down and do all these weird experiments on me.” Yes, his face was serious looking the entire time he was telling her this. See! They knew how to mess around and have a good laugh.
Finally a laugh escaped him as he looked into her eyes and smiled. His fingers stroked her cheek gently. Taking in deep breaths he continued to look into her eyes with a smile. “I don’t see why anyone would run from you. You’re perfect.” True! There was no one more perfect in the universe that could beat his Leila. As she buried her face in his neck he tenderly ran his fingers through her hair to sooth her. “There’s nothing to be scared of. I’m going to take care of you and love you and be yours for all time.” That was a promise he was going to keep. She was his girl no matter what.
Now they were going to have fun, relax and just be themselves. A smile grew on his lips as he nodded. “Okay, you win, you can be nervous!” Oh they had done so many naughty things before. “I didn’t hear you complaining when we did that wrong thing a few times.” As they made their way to the table he pulled off his jacket and then helped her out of hers. “I’ve been ready darling, it’s time everyone saw us as the couple we are.” Taking her hand he followed her out to the dance floor and smiled. No way were they staying on the edge! They were going to where people could see them! When they reached a good place he turned to face her bringing her gently into his arms as they started to slow dance with the music. “There’s no place I’d rather be than here with you at this very moment.”

How was it that she had gotten so lucky? He really did not care about her rough housing-even playfully. Perhaps because he had seen her and her brothers so often wrestling around together. At her parent’s house sneak attacks were often and refuge was only found in your own room. Even if one ended up with scraps and bruises, it always created fond memories and laughter filling the halls. She wouldn’t trade her childhood for any other, even one filled with riches. Hopefully that never deterred Daniel away. Being a sports medicine doctor or therapist, she knew he held a certain level of respect in this town. He healed people who hurt themselves playing sports, sending them back on the path that they wished. She hoped that she’d never embarrass him. Leila wasn’t some girl who’d turn into a stuffy woman and just follow along Daniel with whatever he did. No, she wanted some sort of career of her own as well. It was just getting there after all the bumps in the road she had experienced. Hopefully things would smooth out soon enough.
”That’s what I thought but now you have to earn the right to know what I learned.” As he kissed her she couldn’t help but keep the grin on her lips, giggling against his. Despite everything they were each going through, he did well in trying to distract them from it all. Alex, her finishing school plus working, him finding more staff and now all the upcoming chaos with the holidays. All of this was just overwhelming for the beginning of any relationship, especially one that was as delicate as this one. It’s not like dating your brother’s best friend was exactly easy. There were consequences and those consequences were tough to get over. Somehow, they’d pull through. It’d probably take a long time-a real long time-but maybe these moments were ones that’d just make them stronger? Hey, might as well up the cheese factor since it was already sky high. They might as well show it full blown out here since their homes was crawling with it constantly. Might as well let the rest of the world suffer the way her family did with listening to them.
After Daniel was done his little speech, she placed her whole hand over his face and pushed him back while laughter surrounded them. ”Seriously you are a pain in the ass. Now everyone will know.” Daniel was lucky he was cute and she loved him otherwise this little stunt would not work out. That and all the perfect things he said. With a final nod, she tried to wipe away all the bad thoughts from her mind. ”Alright I believe you.“ This small moment, and the words he said, she‘d hold onto as they drew near the barn and her nerves went crazy. He seemed so sure that he’d love her forever. Then again, some couples said that while getting caught up in the moments and failed. Often that made it hurt worse which is why she was really careful with her words. Despite Daniel being so certain of their future she was not. She was never sure of anything concerning her and the future.
Long ago she had stopped going to school dances. Yes, she had attended prom but that was it. It would be fun to actually dance around and it was an added bonus that it was with Daniel. He could usually calm her down if he noticed she was getting really nervous. Tonight she had reason to be though because of what some people had said to her. Though it had upset her, she still waved to some of her friends as she came in, gripping Daniel’s hand and her monkey proudly. This was it-everyone could see them under the bright lights. They could be judged about the fact it was Daniel dating his friend’s sister. Or the fact he was six years older then her. Whatever it may be, they could take it. Honestly nothing could be worse then what they just endured with Alex anyways.
A large grin reappeared on her face as she squeezed his hand. Finally, the best part of this day and night. She could dance with Daniel in public without being worried on if her family heard and got angry. When on the floor, one of her arms snaked up his so her hand clutched his shoulder. The other she moved to lace in his hand, putting them upwards between their left sides of their chests. ”Me neither.” As they moved, she leaned upwards to press a quick kiss to his lips before pulling back. Actually, with him saying there was no where else he’d rather be made her remember something her mother had said. ”Speaking of being places with me…” Leila put on a bright smile as she looked upwards at him. Hopefully he took this in stride. ”Next week is my parent’s twenty-seventh wedding anniversary. They want to have a get together with the family and a few friends. It has been demanded you come. I’d prefer it as my date but I’d think twice-if you thought my dad and Alex were bad wait until you meet my grandfather. He’s worse. He was a Marine.”
Not that it mattered since most of the family had met Daniel at least once and thought he was a nice guy. Truthfully her father’s father had often jested with Leila that the two of them should get together. She’d roll her eyes at him but maybe he saw something long ago, when she thought it was an innocent crush. He thought Daniel was a wonderful guy and always told her so. This wasn’t the first gathering he had been to that her grandparents were there. Whether Daniel remembered them or not didn’t matter. All that mattered was if he came that he had fun and her family who didn’t know him well kept an open mind. If they wanted to say anything they could say it to Leila afterwards, just not in front of Daniel. Daniel had already been hurt by one of her family members and that was one too many. Leila would never let that happen to him again.

The way she narrowed her eyes and smirked made her look so much cuter to him. He was going to have to do something about this. She was so cute he couldn’t help but hold her and love being around her. If they didn’t watch it at some point she was just going to be living with one another so they could be with one another the whole time. Gently he poked her in the side and smirked as he looked into her eyes. If she was going to roughhouse then they would. But they would get to do theirs later when they were at home alone and no one could interrupt them.
“Then I am going to earn the right to learn what you learned darling.” He smiled and pulled her closer to him as he kissed her. There was no way he was going to let this kiss end prematurely. If other people didn’t like it then they would have to suck it up because at this moment in time he really didn’t care what anyone else would say. Tonight it was all about distracting them from what all was going on in their lives and allowing them to just be them. It would be so much easier after her family saw how well they were together. They worked and that was all that mattered. It was like saying that French fries and cheese burgers didn’t go together.
When he was done with his speech he sighed and looked at her all happy. It was nice to have some fun and just joke around. When she covered his face with her hand and pushed him he laughed while licking her palm. “You know you love me.” He gave her a wink then moved close to her again. The man was lucky she was so open and understanding and just fun to be around. No other woman would have been able to joke around like this and have some fun. As they got closer to the barn he smiled and held her closer for support. “Good, there is nothing to worry about. Just focus on me.” He squeezed her hand while keeping her close. No other couple was going to beat them here tonight.
As they entered the barn he got ready for any confrontations that would come up but he was lucky none did. He was ready for it and wouldn’t mind proving them wrong because he in fact did love Leila and would always be with her. They had pretty much been for one another since they time they had become friends while he was friends with her brother. Now that friendship was on thin ice because of this ‘betrayal’ if you could even call it one. He was keeping his best friends sister happy.
Going out to the dance floor was the number one milestone that they passed. They were now out in public and going to dance. His hand gently moved to her side as he took her hand in his and they laced their fingers together. His hand that was on her side gently moved to her back as he pushed her closer to him so their chests were pressed together as they danced. “Yes, darling?” He would go anywhere with her, all she had to do was ask. A smile grew on his lips and he nodded his head. “I would love to be there.” When she spoke about her grandfather he smiled and leaned in closer. “No one scares me. When it comes to you, I would fight a whole army if I had to just so I could keep you.” He grinned as he placed his cheek on hers as they danced.
In all reality it wasn’t that bad. There had been plenty of times when he had sat down with Alex and their grandfather and listened to the old war stories that he had to tell them. He was an amazing man and he actually respected him for the things he had done in his life. He remembered the day that the two of them went to visit Alex’s grandparents and her grandmother had offered them both a glass of milk with some cookies while they sat down and listened to the stories. He was like family to them and hopefully her grandfather wouldn’t want to kill him.

AND HOW I GOT TO WHERE I AM. BUT THESE STORIES DON’T MEAN ANYTHING, WHEN YOU’VE GOT NO ONE TO TELL THEM TO. IT’S TRUE, I WAS MADE FOR- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - you | [atrb=width,240][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2zgu9hc.jpg); width: 240px; padding-top:10px;] ”Not unless I'm so exhausted after dancing tonight because then nothing you say or do will make me give in." Leila knew Daniel didn't seem to care anymore about who saw what they did. Yet in true Leila fashion she was overly cautious. none of the past guys she had dated were that into PDA. Well, except for the ones who were only about the physical. She knew Daniel likes to show her affection and she enjoyed it but it took a bit for her to get used to new things. after her diagnosis, therapy, finishing school and avoiding dating, get life had a consistency to it. Now, since Daniel, she was trying to learn to adapt to new things. Not everything could be controlled and she had forgotten that. So had her father. She understood the reasons he was so upset and it wasn't for all the reasons people thought. Most of them had nothing to do with Daniel but her. Between Leila's exboyfriends and how he had consoled her after her diagnosis, he was very protective over his little girl. So was Alex. They had seen Leila at the lowest point of her life-refused to leave bed, barely ate, slept constantly and cried often. She had just gotten back to a comfortable place in her life a little over six months before Daniel came around.
Now they had to see this place she was in was even better. Then, she knew, they'd be more comfortable with them dating. ”I do but that doesn't mean I have to always like you." On Daniel really had no idea what he was getting into. Yes, she spent the night at times but they didn't live together. Who knew how they'd get along together for a period of time such as that? Daniel could get annoyed by her. She already knew her biggest issues would be not feeling good enough. Despite Daniel's reassurance, since finding out about his family she felt insecure. She didn't want anyone to think she just wanted to be with him because he had money. Though, so far, no one thought that. they knew the two were together before she found out. And his grandparents seemed so welcoming of Leila. Especially his grandmother who talked with her so freely. Very freely.
A sideways glance arty Daniel revealed he was looking around. She had only met a couple of his friends and she didn't see them here yet. Then again, she wasn't looking too hard. Leila had her own friends she was worrying about. At least Reagan and Sydni understood. Jude sorry if did but he was loyal to Alex too. Jude was royally screwed because he was dating Sydni who was supportive of Leila`s relationship. Jude better not say anything wrong. Leila knew Sydni and Sydni would flip out without second thought. Even Leila was scared of the older brunette.
Add he pulled her close, Leila inhaled. She enjoyed being in his arms, pressed this close to him. When they were like this, Leila felt pure happiness. There was this calm that spread throughout her despite her pulse picking up speed. Some say it was that cliché that the whole world melted away. No, she was well aware of what was going on around them but she just didn’t care. Her head nodded as she mentioned, ”Good. They’ll be thrilled to know that.” When cheek met cheek, she rubbed against him softly. ”Good because he will grill you like no tomorrow.” Her family always meant well at least. Her grandfather would probably say half the things he did in a joking manner, though. Nearly everyone knew Daniel. He had been to plenty of family cookouts and dinners. Still, everything was different now. Different yet the same....
While they danced, Leila looked around. There were other couples dancing. She figured eventually the tempo would pick up but since people were still filing in, semi slow music stayed on. She caught sight of some friends as they swayed. One gave her a funny look but she ignored them, turning her head back towards Daniel and closing her eyes. Her thoughts went over some things he had said today. ’I would never do anything to hurt you.’ ’You’re stuck with me until you say you don’t want me anymore.’ ‘There’s nothing to be scared of. I’m going to take care of you and love you and be yours for all time.’ ‘I would fight a whole army if I had to just so I could keep you.’ While it didn’t seem like much, after visiting his grandparents she was dissecting every little thing. The four of them had enjoyed dinner together then after she went off with his grandmother to get to know one another. Leila had to admit that when Alex told her about him having money, she had no idea how much. That night she had seen and heard how much so. Of course, she had assured Leila that they all loved her already and knew she didn’t care about their wealth. Leila liked things simple, truthfully. Daniel’s house already overwhelmed her and then seeing their house made her even more nervous. Hs grandmother tried to ease her nerves but the way she did that actually freaked her out more. Just, Leila couldn’t say anything.
Maybe now was the perfect time to do so.
Leila pulled back from Daniel slightly. She put a few inches between them, separating their clasped hands and setting that now free hand on his chest. Her brow furrowed while her lips twisted-never a good sign if you knew Leila. ”We need to talk.” Leila smoothed out his collar out of nerves while avoiding his gaze. She was seriously bad at confrontations. Up until them she avoided them entirely. Now it seemed like they were unavoidable for certain times. When they finally got together, dealing with Alex and now...this. She continued to run her hand across the front of his shirt, as if smoothing it out but there were no wrinkles. ”When I was talking to your grandmother, she was assuring me that everyone knew that I was with you because I cared and not because…” She shook her head as she trialed off. How did one say ‘because of your money’ without sounding awful? ”Anyways, in doing so she told me that everyone was so confidant they wanted me at the family gathering this summer. She also said she would tell me what to wear for the family portrait which was odd because I’m not part of the family.” Leila paused, drawing out her words slowly, carefully. This wasn’t exactly an easy topic to discuss. ”When I said that she told me it didn’t matter since I might as well be. She kept rambling on about how you said they should all think of me that way because you already did.” Still, Leila avoided his eyes, her heart pounding a mile a minute while her hands shook slightly from nerves. ”Daniel, what was she talking about?”

A smile grew on his lips at her very words. “Well if you’re that exhausted after we’re done dancing then I’ll carry you to the car, carry you into the house and change you and put you to bed and everything.” He smiled as he teased her. She was going to end up regretting that statement now. It was good that he didn’t care who saw them together anymore. They were together and that was all that mattered. The town be damned if they didn’t like that they were together and finally happy. As long as she was happy then he was happy. The only thing that he cared about besides her being happy was his happiness about finally being able to be with her. All in all it was probably a good thing Alex caught them in the end. Just not the way he did. This had forced them to finally come out and do things together in public like they should be doing and not at home all alone.
When she sat there and confessed that she didn’t always like him he let out a short laugh. “Oh my wounded soul hurts now. My princess confesses she doesn’t always like me” Sticking out his tongue as he teased her he leaned in closer and playfully nipped her neck. His hands ran up her sides as he wondered what the future would hold in their relationship. They would have to keep working on it now that she knew he was rich. Did it matter that she didn’t have as much money as his family? Not at all. She was the one person he was himself around and she genuinely cared for him. Right now he could be stone cold broke and he’d still be happy because he was with her. That wasn’t the case though, he was happy because he was with her so being rich was an added bonus because he was able to shower her with the gifts she should have.
As he noticed her looking around he smiled and kept his hands holding onto her gently. Now he was going to be looking around. Eyes scanned the area to see if he could find anymore of his friends he hadn’t seen yet. When his eyes came back to lock with hers he couldn’t help but smile. “Do they all have to keep staring at us?” He smirked as he looked into her eyes. “If they keep looking they’re going to get a show.” Leaning in he gently brushed her lips to hers so she’d know what he meant.
“I can’t wait to be there. It will be like we’re all one big happy family.” His grin grew as she rubbed her cheek against his. He couldn’t help but follow suit rubbing his cheek against her soft one. Slipping his arms around her middle he continued to hold her to his body. “It won’t be so bad knowing you’re there with me. Besides, I have nothing but respect for your grandfather.” He could see where the man was coming from. Sure he knew Daniel but he just wanted to make sure that he was going to be right for his one and only granddaughter. He would find out he had nothing to fear. Daniel would always put Leila before himself.
They continued to dance in silence for a while and it was comforting. The thing about this couple that anyone could notice was they really didn’t need word to communicate. It was like he could tell when she wanted or needed something. Just the other night when they were sitting at home watching a movie before she asked he was handing her his cup so she could have a drink. They were on such a level that communication was becoming not needed for the small things. In all honesty it was bliss knowing they had that great of a connection with one another. Looking into her eyes right now he could tell that something was bothering her and she needed to talk about it. “If you need to talk about something we can.” His cheek gently rubbed against hers as he waited for whatever it was she needed to talk about.
When she pulled back a little bit he leaned back looking into her eyes once more. So he had been right that there was something she wanted to talk about. “Okay, go ahead.” As they danced and she talked he listened to everything she said. She as wondering why all of those things had been said? The one thing that he had been hoping his grandmother said. She knew that they all believed she was with him because of love and not money. He continued to let her speak before he would interject on the matter she brought up. His hands roamed up and down her sides tenderly as she spoke. When she finally finished he looked into her eyes. “It means I really do love you and care about you. That you’re not just any girl I’m dating. To me you’re not Alex’s little sister, not the girl down the street and not the girl who wants me for money. You’re the girl, the one I’ve always wanted to have and spend my days with. You’re the girl that I can see myself settling down with and spending my life with. The one who I already see as my family and starting a family with because the bond I share with her is that strong.” There, now she knew.

First you admit you’ve liked me since I was fourteen or fifteen. Then you allow us to get caught in the shower. And now you’re telling me you’ll change me and put me to bed. Maybe my family was right to be weary of you.” Oh, she could not help that quip. It really was no secret that some people were uncomfortable by them being together. Still, her family hid it well. That made her happy that they were putting aside their issues enough to feign joy for them. Except her mother. Her mother was overjoyed they were together. Though it’s probably she was more excited Leila was with someone in general. Since her and Samuel broke up, she kept herself in a shell. Until Daniel can swooping back into town.
She tapped at his chin gently. ”I only sometimes don’t like you. Usually not for long, though.” As he nipped at her neck and his hands caressed her for just a second she bit down on her lip. ”Ok mister enough. we’re in public.” No need for him to go after her weak spots where someone could notice them. Leila was slowly warming up to him showing her affection in public but she still got tense at times. Their whole relationship made her uneasy just because she was flying blind here. At least with her exes she at least knew their intentions and none of them were leading now a church aisle. With Daniel she just didn’t know. She knew he made her happy whether they were snuggled up close together, taking a leisurely stroll or, like now, dancing in one another’s arms. ”They keep staring because they don’t get why a smart, sexy and sophisticated guy like you is with a bumpkin like me.” She was joking but there was still some truth in it. She knew it and deep down, Daniel had to know it. That was close to the comment she made when she found out about his background. At the time she didn’t understand why he’d chosen her over all the other gorgeous women she knew were interested in Daniel. She wasn’t blind to the women who gawked at him. Who knew if they flirted when she wasn’t around? Still, she trusted Daniel despite all the others who had hurt Leila in the past.
There he went again with the family comments. Her back stiffened slightly despite the tender moment. ”Well he’ll be glad to know that. I’m everyone’s little girl, remember?” It was always fun to tease him about the fact that she was way overprotected at times. Still, unless he seriously hurt her there was no reason for him to ever worry. They fit together so well. Perhaps a bit too well. Just in the short time they had actually become a couple, they fell together as if they had been this way for years. Yes, they had been friends prior which probably helped. Even without that, they just easily fell into one another’s routines. The trust was deep rooted as well as the passion and commitment to one another. It was amazing as well as unnerving. Especially because Daniel could often tell when something was off about Leila. Being a girl who hated even the smallest squabbles, she couldn’t avoid airing any issues she had.
Leila knew she couldn’t avoid eye contact for long. Despite her trying to look anywhere else-downwards, over his shoulder, at her fingers gliding over his shirt-he still found a way to catch her gaze. She hated bringing up this subject. It was awkward and probably too soon. Though, in all fairness, he had brought it up first with his family. Which was the true issue. She had to gather he thoughts a moment before she continued. ”Really?” Yes, she had been told things like she was loved and that the other guy wanted to be with her forever but nothing this intense. Him mentioning starting a family with her made her wince for a moment. Still, the dance was not the place to bring this up. After the holidays had calmed down she would. Leila let out a long, drawn out sigh. Hell, Daniel was always putting it all out on the line with admitting his feelings. It was time for Leila to stop being scared and let it all go. She couldn’t really couldn’t scare him away if he already thought this way.
”I feel that way too Daniel. Except for you being Alex’s little sister.” She tried to grin but it was honestly a bit awkward as her nerves were still a bit crazy. ”I know I’m not always easy to be with but I really do feel the same. It’s just hard because I’ve always been second best when in a relationship. Someone not worth being with because I always think first instead of just going with that I feel. But...if you can be patient with me, I really wouldn’t mind spending my life with you either.” She reached up to wrap her hand around his neck, just under his ear. Her thumb ran along his cheekbone. Leila leaned forward and pressed her forehead to his, her eyes shutting before she opened to look back into his. ”I’m sorry I’m so crazy at times. I’m just not used to feeling this way about someone. This in love.” With a sly grin, she stopped rubbing his cheek and gently tugged on his ear. ”Though next time I don’t want to hear something like that from your grandmother first, ok?”
