"I think about how it ain't fair
That you weren't there to braid my hair
Like mothers do
You weren't around to cheer me on
Help me dress for my high school prom
Like mothers do
Did you think I didn't need you here?
To hold my hand
To dry my tears
Did you even miss me through the years at all?"

history
Haven has a complicated past. When she was about two years old, her mother gave her up for adoption. She knows she has a sister as she’s seen her file but has no names. Nor has she tried to figure out her sister’s name. Haven really hasn’t cared. It’s not that she’s not curious but it’s too hard on her. Her time in the foster care system wasn’t an easy one. She just doesn’t want anymore disappointment.
When she went into the system, she was taken in by a couple. They had another foster child. They later adopted Haven. She thought her life would be great. Once the process was finalized they moved to Maine. The place was beautiful and she was happy here. Or as happy as a small child could be in a new place. That happiness only lasted a short while. Apparently her adopted parents were dealing prescription drugs. No one really noticed but back in Chicago people were getting suspicious, hence the move to Maine. After about three years, they were busted. Someone had overdosed on some pills they sold and nearly died. The family sued and they went to jail. It wasn’t that long but Haven, their son Gary and another boy they adopted, Brad were still put into the system. All of Haven’s files from Chicago were transferred and the rare instance of an adoption being dissolved happened. By this time, Haven was almost eight years old.
By eight, most kids don’t get adopted. People always want the babies. So haven bounced around from foster home to foster home. All during this time she completely dove into her studies. Haven was so dedicated she was even able to skip a year of school. Skip ahead to when she was sixteen. Haven was in a foster home but heard of a program for girls like her-high risk who might not make it without a little help. She applied and was accepted. The state gladly let her go as it was a program which would help set her on the right path for college and a career. And that they did. Haven was accepted to the University of Maine on a full scholarship. She took classes during the summer since she had no place else to go live and worked in her spare time. This allowed her to graduate after three and a half years, at just barely 21 years old. Haven had got a major in business with a minor in agriculture. This was to help her with her career as a florist.
Haven gathered everything she needed to start her business. The state of Maine has a program for women wanting to start a business. Hope Harbor, the last place she lived, was the perfect place to open a floral shop. Aside from the supermarket, the closest one was a twenty minute to half hour drive. There was an old storefront that was being sold for cheap as the company went bankrupt. All the needed was some paint, shelves and refrigeration for the flowers. The grant got her started with giving the place a face lift per say and the business loan she got took care of the big things, including buying the storefront. That was only six months after graduating college.
Haven’s floral shop is thriving, especially with someone opening a bridal gown boutique in town as well. She bought an old farmhouse and is restoring it, including the barn. She is even engaged though that has many complications there. Haven isn’t entirely sure about him but knows she could be happy with him. Still, she says people are wrong when they point out his flaws. Haven is ready to move on from her complicated past and settle down with a man who (seems to) adore her. Still, one never knows what complications from their past may arise.
