Cameron felt a pain go through his chest. Here Kylie was, doing everything she could to find her sister, but his own father didn’t. Sure, the man had tried to get sober but it never lasted long. Obviously he really didn’t care all that much. ”Don’t worry about rambling. How else can we get to know one another?” His eyes twinkled in amusement as he tried to think of the best way to word things. Cameron wasn’t in this situation so it was hard. ”I see where you’re coming from, wanting to find her. But form their end, they care about you. They probably don’t want you to go through the emotional pain if you’re disappointed.” Cameron was a logical man as well as knew all the different things emotions could play into. He knew from the way his own emotions played into things.
Cameron shrugged as he grabbed a piece of melon as a distraction. ”Yes and no. I don’t really have any family up here nor am I dating so it’s not like I have much to do during the day.” Saying it out loud, Cameron’s life sounded fairly pathetic. ”Not really. Like I said, no one around to wake me up so a couple nights with some melatonin and I was good to go.” Yes, a pretty bland life. It’s not that he wanted it to be this way but he didn’t have many opportunities to date. There were some girls at work who batted their lashes at him but he didn’t want to get involved with a coworker. When that ended it was just messy. At her joke about the caffeine meetings, Cameron chuckled. She picked up the ball quick with the banter. Cameron liked that about a girl. The ones who just said cutesy things to get a guys attention were annoying. Sure, that could be fun for a bit but when it continued? That was a different story.
Cameron’s gaze traveled over her face. He could tell she was really struggling with things. ”It depends if you find your sister, isn’t it? Or is it something else?” He admired her, trying everything she could to get what she wanted. In this case her sister. His hands went up as he leaned back, jokingly acting like he was trying to stay out of the line of fire. ”Hey I believe you. Just, it seems like you have a bit of roots everywhere. Like you said, you’re from Chicago and then your sister may be here plus you said you‘re in fashion so you go to all these big cities. I think in this situation you can never really.” He clasped his hands together for a moment, pointing them forward before he separated them palms up. ”Take celebrities for example. They have homes all over the world. Maybe you just need to find two or three places you want to or plan to be most often? I’m not saying buy a house in every place but find someplace better then the Inn to stay.”
Cameron chuckled as he looked at the current group posing before he cleared his throat. His hand slipped into his pockets as he rocked on his heels. ”Then again what do I know? My father isn’t in my life and my grandparents are retired. I have other family but we’re not close so I can’t relate.” He looked back at Kylie and smiled softly. ”Maybe we should move off this weird topic. So you said you design big time? Why aren’t you in New York? Or are you setting up shop here and plan to compete with your good friend Boroklyn?” He blinked playfully, enjoying talking to her. It wasn’t often he met people he enjoyed talking to. With working nights, Cameron didn’t get to meet many people. He was glad Brooklyn had bugged him to come today. Once done he was debating on asking Kylie to lunch so they could keep talking. He didn’t want to jump the gun though so he’d wait until they got to know one another a little more. Otherwise he might sound a bit creepy.

Kylie knew he was right. Her family and friends cared for her very much. They just didn't always know the best way to care for her. But Kylie loved them just the same. They were her support system....that is on the things they did support her in, which was most everything. Kylie had to hide her smile when he said he wasn't dating anyone. This made her happy, because she was quite sure she had a chance with this one and she wanted to take it. And why shouldn't she? They got along well, so it seemed. Cameron seemed to be enjoying their conversation and she certainly was enjoying it. Cameron's life seemed kind of....sad to her though. He didn't really have anyone. Most of his life was spent alone. Kylie was such a social butterfly, a real people person, she'd have never been able to survive like that. Gosh...I just don't know if I could live that way.....But I guess maybe I kind of will eventually, once I get my career going again. Kylie had never really thought of it that way before. Yah....It mostly depends on that. Kylie admitted. She had so many decisions to make, but she just couldn't yet. She really had to give finding her sister, her best shot. Kylie and Brooklyn had already been to the town hall, but it seemed they had misplaced the adoption records and so Kylie had to wait until they found them to get any information. They had promised to call her when they had. She prayed it would be sooner rather than later. Kylie smiled and nodded. My parents will want me to have a place in Chicago....and I'd like to have a place here....and eventually, maybe a little place in the South of France...Y'know just for vacation. A quiet place I can go and not be bothered by anything or anyone. Yes, she was a people person, but everyone did need some time off now and then, even from the people they loved or wanted to be around most of the time. Kylie smiled when he said they should get off the weird topic they were discussing. But his question was about to lead them right back into it, in a way. Oh no....I'd never compete with Brooklyn....I've been to Milan a few times, and right now I design for another designer, I get 10% of the profit. It's just so I have some means, but that's temporary. Just until I get back into it full time. No...I'm here just because my sister again. I'm waiting for the Town Hall to find the adoption records....They seem to have....lost them. She raised an eyebrow and sounded a little annoyed about that fact, but she would survive, just as long as they found them. So you don't have any siblings then? Kylie inquired. To be honest, she wondered if e even had any close friends. He seemed like a little bit of a loner. Not to the extreme, but just a little. Of course she didn't mind that. Sometimes a "Loner" was the friendliest person in the room, it's just that they tended to have uncommonly good wit, and not everyone could understand it.[/ul]

Cameron eyed Kylie out of the corner of his eye. From the way she acted after he mentioned getting to know one another he was on the right track of things. Cameron wasn’t the greatest when it came to flirting. Or, well, at least the cliché lines that most guys used. He was more of a gentleman with a sweeter soul. That’s what you get being raised the way he was. With some girls in his school years it was a big hit. With others, they thought he was weird. Especially if he didn’t jump right into bed with them. There were a couple who had thought he was gay but that wasn’t so. Not that he saw a problem with gay guys just that’s not how he swung.
Cameron looked out the slightly tinted windows, trying not to meet Kylie’s gaze. That was most people’s first thought. Once Cameron thought that way about his life but he learned to move on. One day his path could change and then there’d be someone there for him other than Brooklyn. ”Which part couldn’t you do? The working nights or not having anyone around? Because I can take a guess as to which one you mean,” he teased. To Cameron she seemed like a girl who was very lively and there for the people in her life. From the way she talked, even if they weren’t here she did have a lot of people in her life. While he had a moderately sized family, after his mother’s death then his father’s drunken spiral gatherings were rare. When they happened they were especially strained since both sets of grandparents were a bit crazy and moved into one large house together. All his aunts and uncle’s had opinions about the situation Cameron was in and while his grandparents did their best to keep that talk to a minimum, they couldn’t be around their kids all day long.
”Sounds ambitious. And a lot of work keeping up three homes.” No, Cameron was happy to have roots in one place. Sure, if he was with someone who had to travel he would but his job was one where he had to be in one place. ”Why’d you put your career on hold? Because you came here?” Maybe he didn’t understand how the fashion industry worked but he didn’t see why she couldn’t do her work here as well. Even if she didn’t open a large office, she could still do her designs and then go to wherever her office was. When she explained things concerning her job at the moment, it came full circle back to things concerning her sister. Everything seemed to revolve around finding this woman. Cameron hoped that she found her soon. ”That sounds counter productive. Designing for another designer that is. Maybe while here that’d be a good time to get everything ready for your own line.” Cameron had never started a business so he had no idea what went into it. That’s why he became a doctor-he was good at the hands on things and being around people. Not so good at any business aspects of things.
”No, unless my dad is hiding something from me.” Cameron paused, his lips pressed together. His past wasn’t one he talked about often. When msot people heard about the fact his mother was dead, there was the normal ‘oh I’m so sorry’. Then some went as far to ask how she died and that’s when things got awkward. When you said your mother committed suicide while you slept as an infant, the stillness that settled over the room was unbearable. ”I was raised by my grandparents and they would have told me if I had any. So unless I have some secret brothers or sisters, it’s safe to say I’m an only child.” Cameron just wanted to move away from this topic. It was one that always upset him when he went into it too much.
A thought struck him, one probably better then coffee. ”Hey have you ever been to a clam bake? Like a real one, not one at a restaurant.”

she replied I need people. She certainly wasn't what anyone would ever refer to as a loner. She was always paling around with someone. Or if someone wasn't with her when she went out somewhere, she'd have made a friend or two by the end of the night. Kylie just had a personality that drew everyone too her. Back home she was always the most popular person to hang with, even though she wasn't a snob like most of the people in her circle. Kylie shrugged. Not really...just a matter of money to be honest. A second after she realized what she'd said, she cringed. Oh that sounded so arrogant....I'm sorry....It's just that my family's always had money....so.....that's just how they've always been....everything is just a matter of money.....I guess it's kinda rubbed off on me. Kylie down the rest of her coffee, even though it was hot and burned a little bit on the way down. Her cheeks had reddened with embarrassment and now she was self conscious. IF he had been thinking of asking her out, he probably wouldn't now. Kylie turned to Cameron again when he inquired as they why her career had, had to be put on hold for the most part. I didn't want any distractions from trying to find my sister....And designing takes a lot of time. You have to make your pattern than you have to make the pieces, but the prototypes have to be the same fabric as the real thing....But a lot of the fabrics that I work with can't be obtained here in Maine, so I'd have to order them. In Chicago it's easier because there are a lot of dealers. Saying "dealers" made it sound like black market activity, but it wasn't. It was just that silks and cottons and brocades of the highest quality had to be ordered from France and Egypt and that took a lot of time. Sure she could have shipments sent from Chicago, but then she'd have to have a place to put them. Plus when designing, you couldn't just stop in the middle of your work to go chase this or that lead. Fashion was more work than anyone could imagine. People thought that those in the fashion industry had a cushy fun job. Sure it was fun a lot of the time, but it was by no means cushy. It was hard, exhausting work and it wasn't easy to keep yourself at the top. You had to keep coming up with new designs and new shades of the same color that had already been invented a million different ways. You were making decisions for the whole entire world about what they would wear for the next season and the season after that and the season after that, for as long as you chose to be in the industry. Well designing for someone else just pays the bills for now. And it's a lot easier, cause I can just make the designs and specify fabric and send it off to them. Where as when you're doing your own line, you have to have your own crew of people sewing practically around the clock, and you have to be on call at any time if they have questions, and you have to keep the new and fresh designs coming, until you have a complete collection.....I know it's not important compared to your job...saving lives. But it's still pretty intensive. She smiled. Kylie hadn't been snotty or anything. She hadn't been trying to insult Cameron and hoped it wouldn't take it as such. Kylie listened intently as Cameron told her about how he didn't have siblings and how his grandparents had raised him. Wow, that's amazing....They must really love you. It was one thing to be a grandparent, it was another to raise your grandchild. Kids were A LOT of work, especially when one was older. You would really have to love a child to do that. That really inspired Kylie. She thought the neat thing about all this too, was that, since Cameron had been raised by one of the last stand up, truly moral, generations, he must be a really super guy. As grin spread on her face as he asked her about the clam bake. Inclining her head, she laughed. No...no. Kylie laughed sweetly. Probably not what you would call a real one. looking sideways at him, her supple lips and closed into a small sweet smile now, but they parted a second later to speak. Why?" Of course, she knew why. Cameron was about to ask her out, she was sure of it. But she wouldn't express that to him, because again she never liked to read into anything...Or if she did, she never expressed it verbally. Besides she wanted to hear him ask her, not say "are you asking me out?" or anything like that. [/ul]
