One thing she loved about growing up in Hope Harbor was she knew the little places to hide from tourists. Including the spots at the most popular tourist attractions. Such as the light house. She could see it just through some trees and bushes but the small patch of rocky beach was secluded. If she walked about a mile or two south west she’d end up at the main beach. That’s actually where she had come from. The crowds had gotten to be a bit too much so she had up and walked away. Now she could just sit in peace.
Last week was another visit where they gathered some of her eggs. There were about six good ones which was a good haul. Their goal was to harvest about thirty. Two more treatments at most and they would be done. Then she could get on some long term birth control and have a back up of pain medications just in case. And Leila wouldn’t have to worry about her condition for a few years hopefully. Until she felt ready to start a family and needed off the medications. Then that would be difficult but maybe if she found the right guy, they’d understand. Or she’d just get a donor. This was all the heavy stuff a simple nineteen year had to think of and it sucked.
Leila flopped her body backwards before she shoved her bag under it. She shut her eyes from the bright light. Well, bright until a shadow crosses over head. Only a few people knew this hiding spot of hers and most of them she was related to. With a grunt she swatted her hand. ”Whoever you are go away. And if you‘re a robber I‘m poor so tough luck to ya.”

Why hadn’t he been to the beach yet? After being home for such a long time he hadn’t found the time to just go to the beach and relax. It was the curse of having to work and support yourself but it was worth it. Being able to buy your own place and just be away from everyone trying to control you and your every action was the best! He was finally taking a day off and going to head to that secret place near the lighthouse that he knew about. Searching his fridge he packed up some water and some snacks into the cooler and sighed as he took it out and placed it in his jeep.
Finally ready he hopped behind the wheel and headed towards the beach. All the tourists being here made him happy that he decided to come to the secret place. Hopefully no one else was going to have found it or else he’d be in trouble and have to tell them to leave.
As he got to the beach he put his jeep into gear as he drove onto the sand. Who cared about driving on the beach right now? He needed to get to the spot! Parking his jeep so no one could see it he gathered out his cooler and towel. Making sure everything was there he walked down to the area and smiled. Good, no one was he---WHAT! Someone found it? He was going to have to let his buddy know so they could find a new spot if people knew where this was now.
Setting his things down he moved so he was standing above the girl blocking out the sun. His sunglasses hid his eyes from view but he looked down at the girl none the less. Ouch, she was hot enough as his but he was going to---did he have to? Maybe they could share this place together! It was something that one could contemplate and maybe do right? No, this was their spot and she would have to leave.
When the girl spoke up there was something familiar about her voice that he couldn’t place. A laugh left his lips at her words. “I’m not a robber first of all; secondly I’m not going anywhere while you’re in my spot.” This place was so secluded no one should have known about it. His eyes looked over her face and he took in a sharp breath. Wait! “Wait a second,” Sunglasses came off as he knelt down and looked at her closer; “Leila Scott?” Holy hell she had grown up!

She knew her brother and Daniel were back in town but hadn’t gone to see either yet. The hormones she took for her treatments sent her emotions out of whack. She had a feeling she would start to bawl as she hugged him. Yeah, he was still attractive. And yeah, he was still unattainable. With a smug smile she closed her eye against and wiggled on spot. She had never been more then Daniel’s best friend’s sister and she could keep acting that way because that’s all it could be. She may be legal now, but she had her own reason for not indulging on that cliché pair up. Leila was broken.
“Yes, you doof, Leila Scott. And by your shocked reaction I’m guessing my darling brother hasn’t updated the family photo in his frame in awhile.“ She let out an exaggerated sigh. ”Also, considering my brother originally found this spot before you moved here and showed me first, it’s my spot. I’m just courteous enough to let you use the Scott Spot.” Daniel was always kind to her, and the rest of the family, but like so many others, he was kept in the dark about her issues. Leila didn’t want people to have looks of pity on her. She knew the looks; some nurses gave it to her. Poor girl, so young to go through this. Poor girl, she may never have kids on her own. Poor girl, poor Leila. She hated those looks and tried to prove them wrong. When she got really bad, she would do whatever she could to avoid going to the hospital. And despite having the pain almost the enitre month, she was finishing her diploma as quickly as possible as well as working. No more of those pitiful looks. Leila could prove she could rise above it.
”Now, maybe you can tell me why you and my brother haven’t come over for Friday night dinner since being back? Momma’s been pretty upset about that.”

He looked down at her with intrigue. Why had her brother not updated the photo in his room of her yet? Was he trying to hide how hot his little sister had gotten? Well hot wasn’t the only word for it, she was drop dead beautiful, gorgeous and stunning all in one. He was going to have to do something fast or his friendship with her brother would come to an end because he’d try to date his little sister. His eyes skimmed over her body and he smirked to himself; now look who the unobtainable one was. She probably had mountains of guys going after her to date her.
Grabbing his stuff he laid out his towel next to her and sat down. Why not? She was like family as it was already. “He has failed to replace that picture. I guess he wants to hide how beautiful his little sister has gotten from everyone.” A smile graced his lips at how he was going to tell her brother about this little run in he had with her today. The last time he saw her he never remembered her filling out a bikini top the way she was now. Another laugh left his lips as he finally caught what she was saying. “Hey, I didn’t know it was you. Thought you were some random tourist and I was protecting the spot. I know how you are when other people come here.”
Reaching into the cooler he pulled out two bottles of the red Gatorade and passed one over to her. She looked like she could use a drink. Opening his up he took a swing from it and then gave her a smile. “How’ve you been? Seeing as we haven’t texted or talked in a long time.” Now that she was legal it wouldn’t be bad for him to flirt with her now. What!? She was free just like every other girl out there. Besides he knew her better than any of the skanks you’d meet in a bar!
His face paled when she brought up the Friday night dinners. Oh crap they had been missing going to those. He slipped his sunglasses back up so she wouldn’t be able to see where his eyes were wondering to. What was he going to tell her to tell her mother? She would be upset with any answer he gave anyways. “Well, I’ve been really busy with work. After buying a new house and setting it up there’s so many bills to pay and having to keep track of things. It’s just one big headache. I would love to come over tonight if you’d like.” He gave her one of his charming smiles as he laid down next to her.

She angled her arm to go under her head as well and chuckled. ”Hide from who? All the fancy New York boys who would step in this town except for their honeymoons or business?” Did Daniel really just call her beautiful. It made the back of her neck flush pink. Suddenlly she felt awkward sitting there without her cover up on. Normally she was rather modest but with the beach she liked her bikinis the same as any other girl. Good thing she at least had shorts on. ”Well, I’ll have to raid his place and update all his photos. I mean he’ll never get a wife if he doesn’t show he’s a family man. And I want nieces and nephews to spoil!” Leila loved to tease her brother about the fact he hadn’t settled down yet. Mainly she would tease to deflect about her own pain of what she went through. Humor made things easier.
Leila chuckled. ”Mhmm nice save there. I know how you two use this as your make out spot. I just hope they’re with girls and not each other.” Her hand clasped around the drink and she gladly took a large gulp. After, she shook it in her hand, a habit of hers. Whenever around people, she hated to keep her hands idle so usually she found things to fiddle with. Usually when around someone who made her nervous. A shoulder went up in a half shrug as a sea breeze blew their way. ”yeah, that’s kind of my fault. I haven’t really talked to many people outside of the family lately.” She avoided his gaze as she said that. It was true. She only talked to one friend outside of her family. Reagan was the only one who knew what was going on and had empathy for Leila. In a house full of men, it felt nice to have a girlfriend to turn to. Especially since her mother was just as hurt by all this as Leila was. ”But I’ve just been finishing up my diploma. I had to miss some school so I’m playing catch up unfortunately. What about you? Are you having fun staring at guys asses while they do therapy each day?” Though she didn’t talk to friends, her brother could babble on about New York life and what the two were up to. Sometimes, she thought he’d stay there for good.
Her lips puckered in amusement. She loved putting him in a tough spot. It made her happy. ”Oh that excuse will not fly in the Scott household. You better come up with something better because she’ll ask why we weren’t invited to your house.” Leila set her bottle in the sand and spun it around. ”You know I never mind if you come to visit, Daniel. It’s just if you actually want to visit, that is. We know how much you dislike family time.” Leila gazed him up and down before she sighed and took another drink. Yeah, her little girlhood crush never went away. A cute smile and someone who liked to goof around with her like her brothers always held a soft spot for her. Leila was a girl who liked a real guy. Not ones who treated her like she was some delicate flower. She grew up with five brothers and a cousins. No matter how much she dolled herself up, she liked to get down in the mud and play some flag football or have a good wrestling match. Not that she often won, but it was fun for her. ”Are you enjoying being home?”

As she spoke up a small smile came onto his lips. Her brother had been right in hiding her from him and everyone that came to their dorm room and saw the family picture. His eyes moved to look into hers before he gave her a smile and then turned his attention back to the sea. “Them and me.” If your sister was this hot of course you would have to hide her from your best friend. It would only cause complications in the end. He laughed and pulled out his keys and slipped the key to the old apartment to her. “There, now you won’t be breaking in.” Giving her a wink he leaned back and turned onto his side so he could look at her.
Another laugh left his lips as she burned him big time. “To be fair and none judgmental I only brought one girl here to make out with and it was when I didn’t know how bad she was for me.” Never would he make out with a guy, he was all about dating women hands down. He watched as she took a sip of the drink and smirked. Eyes closed as the sea breeze came by them. That really felt good on this hot day. Leaning over he nudged her gently in the side. “You should talk to me more.” He gave her a playful puppy dog pout. “Unless you don’t like me as a friend anymore.”
When she told him what all was new in her life he grinned. “It’s good that you’re finishing school up. Even better that it’s not because you’re one of those sluts on that Teen Mom show.” That he could be proud of her about. Why she took off from school he wanted to know but wouldn’t push it. Her question took him by surprise. “Oh god no! When a girl comes in it makes things better but sometimes they’re the body building girls who make me feel inadequate as a man because of how big her muscles are.” Those were the woman that scared him thinking they would toss him into a wall.
Leila knew exactly what she was doing! The way she was putting him on the spot was making him nervous. Now that he knew she had blossomed into this stunningly beautiful woman how was he going to sit through a Scott family dinner without looking at her the entire time? “Well it’s not much worth seeing right now. I’ve got tons of stuff still in boxes because I’ve been working late. I’d love to have you over if you’d like.” No, when he was saying you he meant only her and no one else but she’d probably take it as a whole family thing. When she said she wouldn’t mind him coming over a small smile spread on his lips. “You sure you wouldn’t mind spending time with me?” What? Oh lord, it was like he was planning a date!
Shifting he turned on his towel so his head was resting on her tummy as he looked up. Now this was comfy! Turning his head his eyes met hers as he thought about how he liked being home now. Reaching up he brought his bottle to his lips and took a sip. “I am now.” He gave her another smile as he looked up into her eyes. Had he known she was so beautiful now he would have gone to visit so much sooner. “I really haven’t been able to visit any of the new places that have opened up but I’d love it if you’d show me?”

What was up with Daniel today? Calling her beautiful and making it seem like her brother was trying to hide her from him and others. When her hand clasped around the metal key she shook her head. ”Oh good thing none of my brothers saw you do this. Two of them have learned to shoot guns.” She moved the key so the widest part was between her thumb and forefinger and she pointed the tip at Daniel. A wicked grin was on her lips as she laughed at him. ”What, did she turn out to be a lesbian or something? Don’t worry-it happens to everyone.”
At the cute pouty face he did, Leila reached up and playfully swatted at his face to turn it away from her. ”Oh my gosh! You are such a child sometimes. Aren’t you supposed to be some sort of an adult bucko?” Leila never felt like she had a right to keep contacting him as he moved on with his life and she with hers. Not like they had dated but he was her brothers friend, not hers. So she just dwindled down little by little. Eventually, she stopped communicating with him in general. ”Of course I still like you. Unless you’ve become some sort of druggie or manwhore, then we’ll have issues.” As those words left her mouth, it was probably more true in another sense then what she was trying to convey. All she had to do was play things cool. This was the first time Leila had seen him in, what? Two or three years? She couldn’t even remember. She just had to get used to being around him again. Then she could just suppress the foolish feelings she was having like she did before. Only this time, she could do better. She was always keeping any feelings she had from a guy at bay so she wouldn’t fall in love. That would be the worst thing with how her life was at the present moment.
Her eyes grew dark a moment. Leila rolled away from him and turned her head to the side. She wiped just under her eyes and tried to steady her breathing. Not many people knew about her condition-about the scarring on her ovaries-so she had to keep a handle on her emotions as much as possible. ”No, no one has to worry about that. Not like I even have the ability to. It takes two to tango.” Adding some humor helped her move past this moment of emotions. Him joking back helped more. ”What, you don’t like being the subordinate in a relationship? Is that why you chose this job? So you can feel big, bad and tough?”
Leila actually got excited and half sat up. She supported her weight on her arm as she turned towards him. ”Oh! I can so take care of that for you. I love to decorate. I’ll have that place unpacking in one day, maybe two depending on how long I have.” Her enthusiasm was probably a bit much. After wanting to teach children, design was her next big passion. If teaching ever fell through, perhaps it could be her fall back career. ”Well, like you said, you work until late. It’s not like I’d have to put up with you for long after all.” Two could play at that game.
Leila looked downwards at Daniel and scoffed at him. ”That’s because I’m your personal pillow!” She shook her head as she fell back to rest on her bag again. Out of habit from when her brothers laid on her, she reached up to play with Daniel’s hair. Her nails gently scratched at the hairline along his ear. Leila’s browed furrowed as she kept her gaze upwards. The past twenty minutes or so had been...odd. To her it seemed like Daniel was being more then general friendly he was just a few years prior. He genuinely seemed like he wanted to spend time with her, and not just around her family. Unless she was just reading everything wrong. Leila shook her head. No, she must be reading everything wrong. Just all the crazy hormones in her body and stupid, old feelings popping back up.
She just shouldn’t read into things too much.
”Sure. If you can find time in your busy schedule to go visit places with me that is,” she teased right back.

Handing her the key was the smartest thing he could have done. Not only would he have been in trouble with her brothers but he had given her a key. His attention returned to her and he smiled. As she spoke up he grinned. “Sounds like it would be fun to see them try and shoot me.” Watching the key he smiled as he looked from the tip of the key up her arm and to her beautiful face. Had anyone noticed how she had one of the best bone structures on the planet? She was beautiful and it was only accented by her bone structure. “No, we decided to go our separate ways after I found her cheating on me with another guy.” Dating that slut was the worst mistake he could have ever made.
“Ahhh no!” With a laugh he leaned into nip at her hand and fingers when she playfully swatted at his face. With a grin he turned back to look at her as he reached up and took her hand so he could look at her without her hand in his face. “I am but we all know I’m a kid at heart.” Laughing he sets her hand down and takes a drink from his bottle. It sucked that they didn’t talk much anymore. He was going to get her number and they were going to start texting and talking a lot more. Now that he was back in town he could do that. “Not at all, I’ve never used drugs and I’m not a man whore.”
His attention turned on her and smiled when she told him there was nothing to worry about. A big weight was lifted off his shoulders as she told him that. “Oh thank god. I wouldn’t want to see you on that show with some douchebag as your baby daddy and always leaving you and not paying child support.” It was a good cover up for him! There was no way that he was going to let her know that he wanted to be with her just yet. Her brother would kill him! With a sigh he leaned over and tickled her sides after her next comment. “I am big bad and tough!” He playfully stuck his tongue out at her and then leaned back. “It’s good money what can I say?” He smiled thinking about his new life.
“You would really do that for me? How could I ever repay you?” With a smile he pulls his keys back out and takes the spare set of keys off and hands them over to her. “I’ll show you where I live when we leave here.” What? He only wanted her to see his house, or did he want more? Her next comment made him laugh. “Because I annoy you so much?” His grin widens as he leans down and rests his head on her tummy. This place was really comfortable!
Looking up to her his smirk turned into a wicked grin. “You’re protesting this? But we both know you love it!” Eyes closed in pure bliss as her fingers tangled in her hair and massaged his scalp. A smile on his lips as his fingers came up and he started tracing random things on her tan belly. Looking up into her eyes he nodded his head. “I can always find the time for you, Leila. How about tomorrow?” Yup, the man was setting up a date with his best friends’ sister. Was there really anything wrong with it?

Oh what was it with all the men in her life being certifiably crazy? The smile that had been stuck on her lips pretty much since he had gotten here quickly faded. ”Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” She paused for a beat before shrugging. ”HEy, if you had told me, I would’ve kicked her ass. Guys may not be able to hit girls but girls can hit girls.” Leila hated tense conversations. Her parents tried to get her to sit down and talk about hers all the time. She just wouldn’t have it. She’d make some stupid joke or frivolous comment to keep the air around things light. It’s how she didn’t lost her mind over all the problems in her life.
”Well, now we know some things never change. Like your Peter Pan syndrome. I don’t think that will ever disappear.” Her thumb ran along his cheek as their eyes locked. Leila was confused at all the signals. She felt like there was some definite good tension between them but perhaps she was wrong? This was all so confusing. When she pulled away, her hand clasped around her bottle. Though she didn’t drink from it right away, it was a good place for her hand to rest in that moment. ”Well good, I’d hate to have you turn out to be some bad guy instead of the good one we all know and love.”
Again with the tense subjects. Her body felt like a board as she looked away from him again. ”Yeah, I guess..” After she furrowed her brow, she crinkled her nose up. ”Can we stop talking about this? It’s all weird.” Yeah, that was a good cover up for her discomfort. Though she was uncomfortable for many reasons now. Yet Daniel had a plan to ease that as well; or, well, get back at her for teasing his manhood. His hands found their way to her sides and she let out a loud laugh. She really couldn’t tickle back nor thrash her legs because he was a guy so she did the only thing she could think of-bite. Leila leaned down and chomped down on a few spots along his shoulder or neck-maybe both?-before they parted. ”Alright, alight, you’re big, bad and tough. Most of the time.” She rolled away from him for a moment so he hopefully wouldn’t retaliate but her body eased back as he pulled out his keys. Yeah, it was a really good thing none of her brothers were here. Daniel would be dead. ”You can feed me to repay me.”
As she gazed down at him, Leila shook her head. ”Yeah, something like that. Plus, I’d have ot get out of there before you found all my booby traps.“ The chuckle that left her lips was short lived. Leila’s body stiffened as Daniel’s hand lazily drew on her stomach and he laid on her. His warm breath along the planes of her body as he breathed sent her blood rushing. No, at this point she wasn’t reading any signals wrong. And everything inside of her told her to run. Despite knowing this man for years, Leila just couldn’t get into a relationship. Most men couldn’t handle everything she was going through. And she just couldn’t get hurt. And with Daniel being her brother’s friend, it would be even worse if she got messed up with him somehow. ”You know, I need to get going. I still have to walk back to my car. Plus, sometimes my brothers come here so they shouldn’t find us like this.” Leila wiggled herself out from under Daniel’s head. Taking her bag in hand, she pulled it open to reveal the contents. Already spilling out of the top of it was her white cover up. Leila slipped it over her head and smoothed it out.
With a tense smile, Leila put her bag on her shoulder and turned back to Daniel. ”As to tomorrow, I’m not so sure anymore. I’ll have to think about it.” She made to walk away but looked back over her shoulder. ”It was good to see you though. Missed having you around.”

His shoulders went up as he shrugged at the thought of what had happened between him and his ex girlfriend. Giving her a smile he then took a sip of his drink. “Don’t worry about it. It was a long time ago and I would rather not have that girl in my life anyways. I dodged a bullet with her apparently.” Oh yeah, being single was a better payout than getting an STD. He was glad that he didn’t need to get himself checked out. When she spoke up he felt warmth spreading in his heart about how protective she was getting towards him. Another smile appeared on his lips as he looked to her. “I should have told you. I know you’d never let anyone really hurt me.”
Why was she making him laugh so much? See she really was a keeper! She could make you laugh and it was a really good thing. He was going to have to find a way to try and date her without her brother finding out. He could see it now if he found out. “It’s a good thing still being able to relate to the child inside of you though. It allows you to do things adult you wouldn’t do.” Nodding his head he agreed with his own rationalization process. Nudging her playfully in the side he smiled at her. “I’d never turn into one of those douchebags like on Jersey Shore. They’re not real men anyways.” If she ever dated a guy like that he’d have to beat the shit out of him.
When he noticed how tense she got about the child subject he nodded his head when she requested that they changed the subject. She was one of the people he respected and liked enough he would change the subject without question. That was when his hands found her sides and he started to tickle her. “Surrender to me!” He laughs as she starts wiggling as he tickles her. Now this was how a day was supposed to be, fun! When she took his key from him after she escaped he was really glad her brothers weren’t there. “So pizza and what to drink?” Unless she would request some other kind of food in compensation. He would be glad to pay that price.
Looking up at her he sighed and looked sad. “Going to make me break out my ninja skills and disarm your traps? I guess I will if I have to. Though you just told me you’re going to trap so I know to be cautious now.” He playfully teased in return. As he started to trace shapes he could feel the way her body went ridged. Was it from her being ticklish or because she was nervous? “Do you really think they’re going to come here and spot us?” Why did she want to leave all of a sudden? Was she just that nervous about opening up around him? Well he was going to have to fix that----ouch! When his head hit the sand he looked up at her in confusion.
Watching her gather her things he stood up and gathered his own. “Busy tomorrow?” Did something just happen that made her not want to see him? “It was good to see you too.” Without thinking he moved and slipped his arms around her locking his hands on her tummy as he gave her a hug. Leaning in he whispered in her ear, “Call me when you’re free?” His lips placed a soft kiss to her cheek then let her go as he went back to gathering his stuff to leave.

AND HOW I GOT TO WHERE I AM. BUT THESE STORIES DON’T MEAN ANYTHING, WHEN YOU’VE GOT NO ONE TO TELL THEM TO. IT’S TRUE, I WAS MADE FOR- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - you | [atrb=width,240][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2zgu9hc.jpg); width: 240px; padding-top:10px;] Leila nodded. She knew what that was like. Before all her stuff, she was seeing a guy who just turned out to be a jerk. When she told him she had appointments to go to, he didn’t believe her. So things just sort of ended. At times she wished it didn’t but other times she was happy. ”Well all of you guys have looked out for me. Of course I would do the same thing back.” Her fingers drew some shapes in the sand as she nodded her head in agreement. ”Yeah, it is. I try to do it from time to time. But I don’t have a big, fancy job like you do.” At least with her career she could act goofy for a long time. If it all worked out that is. She wanted to teach younger kids, like under ten years old. It had been her dream for years. One that was even stronger now.
After their moment of play, she moved on to pretend to think. ”Hmmm, I’m not sure. You know technically I can’t legally drink so you need to figure that out. I’m pretty easy with my soda choices.” Plus, it’s not like she drank very much anyways. Actually, pretty much not at all in the last five months. There were some sips here and there but that was about it. ”Yeah, but I’m a master at these things. You may not find it for weeks. Or I may make a copy of your key, sneak in later to set some up then you’ll be really surprised. You never know but now you’ll be on your toes.”
Leila clamped her eyes shut tightly as she shook her head. ”Um, maybe. My friend Reagan wanted to go shopping or grab a bite to eat tomorrow so I have to wait until she gets out of class.” She nervously scratched at her forehead as she went to walk away. But Daniel had quicker refluxes then her. His arms wrapped around her. Her own pressed against his chest. Leila’s eyes welled up from frustration as she bite down on her lower lip. After they parted, she turned as if about to leave. Everything about today had been confusing. The compliments, the closeness and now him kissing her cheek-asking her to call him. She got a few steps before she turns around.
”What in the hell is your problem? You are my brothers friend. And you act like that doesn’t even matter. You flirt with me and want me to hang out with you and give me a kiss on the cheek. That is bull shit. I’m don’t like stupid mind games nor am I some play thing who likes a random hook up. Especially with my brother’s friend. So stop it. What happened today will never happen again. I will be civil when around you but we won’t be left alone again. That’s how this will go no matter what you say or think. I don’t need complications in my life and this stupid cliché is just another complication.” With a shake of her head Leila let out an exasperated sigh and left the small clearing.
