No one would think to look for her there. She parked her car between a couple cars in part of the parking lot away from the main road. She figured her family would come looking for her soon enough as they had already blown up her phone. There were countless missed calls from her parents, Mark, Nick and Daniel. She loved them all but she needed time away from them to think. Everything was complicated enough with trying to figure out the next steps because of this pregnancy but her brothers interjecting made it worse. First, Mark had attacked Daniel. Yes, physically attacked him. Leila was able to move aside in time least she get knocked over as well. Then two of her brothers had chimed in to demand that Daniel marry her. Yes, the demanded it. Leila had been so distraught. Emotions of anger mixed with the heartbreak she felt. All of her brothers knew her condition could lead to fertility problems for her yet they were pissed she was pregnant. What joy she had been clinging to was wiped away as the tears escaped down her cheeks.
First she had gone to her room and locked it so she could think. As she walked away from the living room she heard her mother scolding her brothers and offering Daniel coffee while she cooled off. She paced around her room as she gripped at the hair on the top of her head. Finally she found her boots and the coat and scarf set her grandparents had given her a couple nights ago. They were traveling for the holidays so they were missing all the fun right now. After she was bundled up she grabbed her purse and went past her entire family to her car. Daniel tried to get her to stay but she finally chewed him out and pushed him away from her car. Despite it being a piece of crap it could still peel from the driveway just fine.
After an hour or so sitting outside the inn she went inside. The dining room was serving anyone who walked in food. She was actually hungry for once so decided it’d be good to eat something. There was some turkey, potatoes, peas, a roll and some milk. Of course it threatened to come back up but she was able to keep it. Down. She stayed in the dining room for another half hour before she got up and drove off to the docks. While her can ran, Leila just looked over the boats as the rocked in the waves. Being here was calming. So much so that she actually dozed in her car until the familiar ringing of her phone stirred her. A look at the clock showed four hours had passed since she left that morning bringing it to about three-thirty. Leila figured it was time to head back as they still needed to tell Daniel’s parents about the baby. While she still was waking up she listened to her voicemails. Plenty of ones from her mother wanting to make sure she was ok and eating something. Some from Daniel wanting her to come back, saying he loved her and they needed to talk. Then a whole slew of messages from Mark apologizing for his actions. The last one from him asked her to meet him at the Rockport Trails so the two of them could talk alone. He felt awful about what had happened apparently. She decided to amuse him and go.
Leila drove at a leisurely pace to the parking lot the met between the trails and the park. She shut off her car before she stepped out and locked it. Her hands dropped her keys into her purse before she slipped her gloves on while she walked down the trails. She hadn’t seen Mark’s car in the parking lot which frustrated her since her was the one who called her. With a scowl on her face she walked until the parking lot was out of sight. Her older brother was no where to be found which caused her to get angry. After a few minutes had passed she reached in her purse for her phone. She went through her recent contacts and clicked the phone icon next to Mark’s name before she put the device to her ear. It sent her to voicemail. ”Seriously,” she muttered as she waited to hear the beep. As she shifted from foot to foot in the cold she lef thim a very angry message. ”Hey where are you? I got here five or ten minutes ago and you’re not here. I do have someplace I have to be.” With that she hung up the phone as she turned her head upwards and her eyes drifted shut. She hated being left waiting-especially in the cold.

Why had she run away from him like that? He had such a great surprise for her that her brothers had to go and ruin the whole damn thing with getting pissed when her mom accidentally spilled the beans about her being pregnant. Now he was going to have to salvage the whole damned proposal he had in his mind. After five minutes of chasing her down the road he had come back and talked to her mom and gotten everything in order. Calling a friend up he got a sleigh running and some horses on it. Now he would do everything like he was going to do today. Hell he had planned on doing this in front of her family so now he had to get the game plan together.
Once he made sure they all knew their parts he got in his car and headed off to get everything all set up. A photographer would be there too so he could get a picture of the moment for them. A small smile played on his lips as the whole plan fell into place before his eyes. This was going to end up being better than what he had originally planned.
He reached the sleigh area he helped decorate it and get everything ready. There were even bells on the side of the horse so it would sound like Santa was on his way. After what Mark did to him he was going to be facing Leila’s wrath because he had to call her and tell her to meet him exactly where Daniel had told him to.
When they spotted that Leila was there he made sure to wait for her to head into the trail before they even made a move to get going. A small smile on his lips when she called Mark back and yelled at him for being late. Oh yeah, that was some payback there. After waiting for her to hang up he told Blake to go. The sleigh bells jingled as the horse made their way up the snow covered trail to where Leila was standing.
As they pulled up beside her and stopped Daniel hopped down and smiled at her looking deep into her eyes. “Your sleigh awaits my snow princess.” He held out his hand for her to take so he could help her up into the sleigh. Oh god she was going to kill him for this. He could just see it now. His eyes glanced to his watch hoping that everyone was in place at the end of the sleigh ride so he could do the most important thing he was ever going to do in his life.

As the sleigh came down the trail she stepped to the side figuring it was some family having a special day. She kept her hands in her pockets as she went back to staring ahead though occasionally glanced back. As it drew closer she saw the familiar form of Daniel in the back of the sleigh. ”What the hell…” She was supposed to be meeting Mark and yet Daniel was here showing up in a sleigh. With bells on the horses. The confused look didn’t leave her face as he stopped. Leila wasn’t sure what all this was. She had been downright cruel to him when she had left. Leila was shutting him out again and she knew it but it was just her response whenever in a stressful situation. Back at her house had definitely been stressful.
After Daniel hopped down she looked between his hand and his face, not really sure what to do. He didn’t look angry but that look of love he only had for her and only her. That look which sent her heart fluttering, even now. With a terse look on her face she gripped his hand and let him help her up into the sleigh. Leila settled into her seat while she waited for Daniel to get back into the sleigh. She didn’t think the sleighs were running on Christmas Day. Then again she shouldn’t put anything past Daniel nor his money. Not that he used it to get his way for everything but these were tough times. People were willing to do anything for a little extra cash. Leila herself worked as many extra hours as possible at the restaurant to save up enough money herself.
As they started to move she looked over the side of the sleigh for a couple moments. When she turned back to Daniel she rested her head in her hand while her elbow rested on the side of the sleigh. ”I’m sorry for leaving like that earlier. I just needed to get away from everyone. It’s why I didn’t want to tell everyone today. I had a feeling it might go like that and I wanted us to figure things out first to heed off their temper.” Leila knew it was no excuse for her behavior but it was the best way to explain everything she had done. If her and Daniel had been able to talk ahead of time and had a game plan for everything then they could’ve avoided everyone’s tempers. Maybe even told them someplace public so that tempers couldn’t rise that much.
She dropped her hands and sat up straight while she rubbed her palms along her jeans. ”Daniel what are we doing? Don’t we have to go to dinner with your parents? I fell asleep in my car so I’d like to change and clean up before we go.”

As the sleigh moved closer to Leila the jingling of the bells only got louder. There were so many bells it sounded like it could be Santa on his way to someone’s house. A smirk on his face as they finally reached Leila and the confused look stayed on her face. Now he had her! He was going to make this so special that nothing would ever be able to top it. The stress she was feeling and why she blew up at him he knew was all or mostly because f her imbalanced hormones because of the baby. He was able to revise how he was going to do what he had planned when she was opening Christmas presents.
While he stood there looking at her and offering her his hand to help her into the sleigh he could feel the sweat threatening to break out. She was the one person in the world he cared about more than his own family members. When she allowed him to help her up and she took a seat he grinned and then hopped up after her. Now this was going to be an amazing sleigh ride through the city. It was a beautiful snowy day and she was the most beautiful woman in the city. Taking the soft warm blanket he placed it on her lap to keep her warm.
When the sleigh got in motion again he snuggled up next to her as they went through the park. As she started to explain everything to him he gently ran his hand on her back to sooth her. “I know you did baby, it would have been better for us to figure it out before hand but we didn’t given the chance. Think of it as now that everyone knows we won’t have to hide it.” Nodding his head he leans in and holds her close to him. His hand came up to stroke her hair back as she sat there. Nothing was going to ruin this moment for them.
As they got closer to the end of the sleigh ride he smiled at her question. “We do but they can wait a little while so we can have our moment together.” Knowing that his parents knew he was asking made him happy because they told him to take as long as needed. When he heard the Christmas songs start he smirked as he moved to sit across from her. “Are you ready for the one last surprise?” Knowing that the photographer would be able to get great pictures he took a deep breath. He was about to propose to Leila with his grandmothers engagement ring.
Finally they were closing in and he knew it was time. He slipped onto the bottom of the sleigh and got on one knee in front of her. His hand on the box inside of his pocket as he looked up at her. “It didn’t take your family for me to know what was going to happen today. I had something else in mind but I feel like this is so much better. Everything we’ve been through and had to fight for shows me that there is no one else out there that completes me as much as you do. There are some legends that say that a person originally had two halves and they were separated from one another. In you I see that I’ve found my other half and I want you to be with me for all time.” He pulled out the box and opened it up the box to show the engagement ring to her. “Will you marry me, Leila Scott?”

She wasn’t freezing cold but the numbness just didn’t go away, even when she went in her car and had the heat up. Since her diagnosis she never handled stress well. She had been dealing with enough first when it came to having a diagnosis and going through her treatments. Now she was stressed out because she was pregnant, nineteen, unmarried, just starting college and her brothers seemed to not have taken it well. Yeah, her body shut down to protect itself. With the blanket over her lap, she pulled it up close to her lap and stuck her hands underneath to warm them up some.
Leila leaned into Daniel though her body was a little tense. She hadn’t been mad at him and she especially felt bad for that. Her hands fiddled with the edge of the blanket as she chuckled in frustration. ”Yeah I know but I just didn’t want anyone to blow up at you like that. After all it does take two to tango.” Leila had been a willing participation the night that led to this child she was carrying yet no one had gotten mad at her, only him. That she felt bad about. ”You know I wasn’t mad at you, right? I was mad at my idiotic brothers.” Apparently being hopeful that her brothers would be excited to be uncles was reaching a bit too high. At least Jackson would be there for her.
Leila moved back to raise an inquisitive brow at Daniel. ”Our moment?” Leila was beginning to get really nervous despite not knowing what this was about. Probably just her hormones but how he was being vague had her hyper aware of things. Her ears picked up music coming from somewhere. Leila sat up straight and looked around. It was carolers singing her favorite song, “You’re My Christmas Present” by the Skyliners. ”Daniel…” She didn’t know what game he was playing but she hated to be embarrassed or put on the spot for any reason.
As he moved to the bottom of the sleigh she went a little pale. ”Holy shit,” she muttered softly. Leila was a mix of excited and heartbroken as he spoke those words to her. Such perfect words. But Leila was scared that he was only doing this because of the baby. Even if her brothers hadn’t forced her into this, he had found out last night. She brought a hand up to cover her mouth as she saw the ring. It was gorgeous. More beautiful then any ring she could have imagined. A few tears escaped from the corner of her eyes. ”Daniel I-” Leila didn’t know what to say. She knew what she wanted to say but she had to pause for a second. Just a brief second. A wide grin broke out across her face as she wrapped her arms around Daniel’s neck, nearly causing them both to fall back against the opposite seat.
”Yes. Yes I’ll marry you Daniel.” She placed her hands around his face and kissed him deeply on the lips. Leila was so very happy in this moment of time. When she pulled back she was practically sobbing from her joy and the tears. Leila reached up to wipe at her eyes. ”Truthfully though, this isn’t just about the baby right because I really want to be with you, and only you, Daniel.” Leila couldn’t help it. That little fear was nagging away at her and it would only be eased if she got it out.

It was all turning out perfectly! He was going to get engaged to the woman he loved most on this planet. That was if she said yes. If she rebuffed him then he was going to just have to try again later. As he slipped his arms around her when she leaned against him he noticed how tense she was, he would have to give her a massage later to ease the tension in her shoulders. “I know darling but it doesn’t matter. I know your father is pissed but does it matter if they’re pissed or not? All that should matter is us being happy.” A smile plays on his lips as he holds her close to him as they talk. This was perfect. “You could never be mad at me I know this. I’m madder at your brothers for ruining a moment for us that is supposed to be really happy.” Stupid brothers.
He nodded his head at her question about it being their moment. This was a special moment for them and she would find out why it is soon enough. “Yes, this is our moment, Leila.” Leaning in he gently pressed a kiss to her cheek as he took his hand in hers. Hearing her say his name was heart lifting. This was how well he knew the woman he was with. Carolers were singing her favorite song, he had made this all look perfect and he knew she would be the perfect match for him.
As he spoke to her his heart felt like it was about to burst out of his chest with how fast it was thumping. The worst she could do was say no and he knew that. Seeing the tears leaking from the corner of his eyes calmed him down a little knowing this must be special to her. Thankfully this was turning out exactly the way he planned even down to her stuttering for an answer. What he didn’t expect was her leaping on him and hugging him. His arms slipped around her middle as they fell back against the other seat. A smile was plastered onto his lips as she pressed hers to his in a loving kiss.
While they kissed he took the ring out and slipped it onto her finger. As they pulled away he looked into her eyes with a smile on his face while his arms stayed around her middle. “I love you so much, Leila.” When he looked into her eyes as she asked the question he thought about it and shook his head. “I knew I wanted to ask you to marry me, after everything we’ve been through. The only thing I was waiting for was a sign to tell me it was the right time.” His hand moved over her belly and he smiled up at her. “I think this as good a sign as any.”
Leaning up he captured her lips once more in a kiss as the sleigh came to a stop in front of their parents and family. When he pulled away from her he stood up and hopped out offering her his hand to help her out. She could be the one to tell them all that they were officially engaged now.

Yes, she knew her dad wouldn’t be pleased to start off but she knew he’d come around. Knowing your first grandchild was on the way was bound to make anyone happy. ”No I guess not just…” she shrugged her shoulders as she looked around. ”I was just hopefully everyone would be happy too.” Hopeful was something that Leila normally never was. She was always the pessimist with her life. See what Daniel was doing to her! He was changing her and she didn’t even fully notice it!
Daniel was acting weird. Weirder then normal that is. He was always sweet and loving with Leila just today he seemed intensified. Maybe he was just that excited about the baby? That was the only thing Leila could think of. But then what was all this about this being their moment? She shifted around uncomfortably. Knowing there were other people hiding somewhere made her unease. Leila was not one who was fond of being put on the spot or embarrassed. In fact she hated it and Daniel knew this.
Yet, Daniel still did something that could be considered so.
Not that the proposal wasn’t’ sweet and perfect just it was in a place where anyone could see them. Still, she forgot about that momentarily as she pressed her lips against his, giggling into it. Daniel just had a way of making her feel all giddy. When she pulled back, she took her glove off so he could slide the ring on her finger. ”And I you, Daniel.” She look turned to look at the ring for a moment before she looked back up at Daniel. Her smile faltered just slightly as she nodded. She slipped her hand over his as they both pressed against her stomach while she chuckled. Tears of happiness sprang to her eyes. ”Yeah I guess it is. Now can we please hop off here because I feel woozy.”
When she pulled away from her second kiss with Daniel, she pulled back her arm and slapped him in the chest. ”Seriously? Remember what you said before about I could never be mad at you? Yeah, I’d rethink that, bucko.” Of course she was just teasing him. With a frustrated sigh, she gripped his hand as she hopped down. She didn’t let go as she moved close to her family. ”Well, will you all please stop being now if I tell you we’re getting married?” There was a whoop of cheers and hugs all around as Leila laughed. No, not how she ever imagined getting engaged but it was perfect none the less. She pressed herself against Daniel’s side as she watched her parents talk eagerly about everything there was to do and what date would this happen-before or after the baby? Leila just held back. She had a lot of other things to think about. Like school and work and moving to Daniel’s(which she assumed she would be) and doing this all while pregnant. She wrapped both arms around Daniel’s waist as she looked up at him. ”So now after I go back to my house to change, we can go tell your parents we are not only pregnant but getting married. Sounds like fun.” Leila laughed and went on her toes to press a kiss to Daniel’s cheek. ”I left the ultrasound photos on my desk. I was thinking we could put one in their Christmas card I got them and give it to them that way?”

Stroking Leila’s hair back he smiled as he looked into her eyes. “In time they will get happy and come to see how happy we are to be with one another and how happy our child will make us.” Holding her close he knew that today was about to be made a whole lot better for her. She was going to love what he had planned for today. The way they had forced him to change his plan actually turned out better. He was going to as her on this beautiful sleigh ride instead of at her house with her and her family. Thankfully her father actually gave him permission to ask her.
Was he acting weird? Yes he was but he had a reason to be asking weird. This was the day that he was going to get engaged and they would finally be happy. Well they were happy so they would be happier. The look on her face when he actually proposed was something he hoped the photographer actually got. This was perfect! The fact she accepted made him want to scream out in joy but he didn’t. As he put the ring on her finger he smiled and looked up at her. “If you didn’t I would have been worried about proposing to you.” He teasingly said sticking his tongue out at her.
When she looked at the ring again he smirked and looked at her. “My grandmother knew it would fit you.” Gently he took her hand in his and looked it over. “She said she wanted you to have it.” His smirk changed to a smile as he tilted her head up and looked into her eyes. “We can because I have something else planned for us.”
As she spoke up he looked at her with a sheepish grin as he looked at her. “I know you won’t be too too mad at me love.” Holding her hand tightly in his he led her over to where her family was waiting at. When they learned that they were now engaged to be married his grin broke out as he went around hugging everyone in return. While Leila was giving a hug to her mom the photographer came up and he showed Daniel all the pictures he had gotten. “I love these!” Looking at all of them he nodded. “Put together a good sized collection of all sizes and I’ll pay you.”
Feeling his wrist taken in her hand he looked at her when she spoke up. With a wince he pulled her close as he leaned up against a tree. “Well, I should probably tell you.” He paused as he looked into her eyes, his hand coming up to cup her cheek. “We kind of moved all your stuff into our house.” Giving another sheepish grin he looked down. “Everything is back on your desk though so the pictures will be there.” Oh she was going to hit him. “I think it’s a great way to tell my parents though!” He smiled as he stroked her cheek gently with his thumb.

They had found out later then most couples as Leila was over twelve weeks into her pregnancy. She was seriously freaking out inside, even if she didn’t let others onto it. Her mind was going a mile a minute of what she had to do to get ready for this baby. And her brothers getting made at Daniel-the father-was not helping at all. They all knew how her anxiety could get and it was already proving to be worse while pregnant. Even they had to admit the last couple of months she had to been kind of snappy.
Leila laughed at Daniel. ”True, I guess. Then again I could just be saying yes because of the baby.” There was humor in her eyes to show she was joking as she pressed the side of her head against his cheek for a moment. She took another glance at the ring as he said it was his grandmothers, feeling very overwhelmed. Leila had her moments where she doubted his family was accepting of her then little things reminded her they were. Not just about the ring but just how caring they were towards her in general. ”Daniel she didn’t have to. I mean she’s still around, she should have it…” He reassured her that his grandmother wanted her to have it and she nodded in understanding. It was all the more special to her then.
Leila shot Daniel the evil eye. He may think he was being all cute and charming but he was messing with Leila Scott. She has the Scott temper. And add in the pregnancy hormones? No, not pretty at all. She had a scowl on her face despite the humor sparkling in her eyes. Her family proved to bode well with distracting her while Daniel talked to-a photographer! Oh good lord was the man really in trouble now. Not that having pictures wasn’t special but it was a lot to take in.
Her family started to make their way back to their cars as she and Daniel enjoyed a quiet moment together. The carolers were gone and the photographer was trudging down the trails to take photos. Leila pressed her hands against Daniel’s chest as she leaned into him. A brow raised as she listened to him. ”Tell me what?” her other brow now joined the first one in shock. ”Daniel, I was only gone like four hours! How the hell did you move all my crap in four hours. And who told you that you could?” She brought her hand up to punch him in the arm though not too hard. ”Seriously? The last two hours hasn’t been overwhelming enough you drop this bomb on me.” Ok, that was her hormones getting the best of her. Daniel rubbing at her cheek helped to bring her back down from her the mood swing.
”Yeah I thought it’d be much nicer then how my brothers found out.” She sighed. ”I think you need to tell Lexi. Alone.” Leila knew about Lexi’s still birth but hadn’t told anyone. It was a family secret and the fact that Leila knew was huge. She didn’t want to upset Daniel’s cousin by telling her with everyone else so it’d be best if he did it alone. ”Now can we please go. I’d like to go get changed, maybe with your help.” She pressed a tender kiss to his lips before she laced their hands together to walk back to their cars.
