Cameron loved seeing his grandparents but this was the first time he had gone all day without so much as speaking to Kylie. They had texted a bit but he didn’t want to tell his grandparents that he was stepping away to call his girlfriend. Of course they were ecstatic he had found someone but he didn’t want to overwhelm her with his three grandparents who were still living plus two sets of aunts and uncles. That was a lot for anyone to take in. Plus, this weekend was a perfect time to come. Kylie was moving into Haven’s house and that gave the girls some time to bond. And truth be told, Cameron didn’t want to be around there if Clark came in to say hello or whatever.
Cameron hated Clark Sevigny. The two hadn’t had any strife personally but now that he knew Haven was engaged to him he was livid. The guy didn’t care about Haven. Just four months ago-mere weeks before meeting Kylie-he had seen the guy at a bar about an hour outside of Hope Harbor. Not unusual right? Except he was trying to pick up a girl. Ok, no big deal. Fast forward to going with Kylie to meet her sister. They start talking and Haven reveals she’s married to a guy named Clark who’s a lawyer in Augusta. A look at a photo was all the confirmation he needed. The guy was a pig. He promised to marry Haven and was still messing around with other the girls. The worst part was Cameron couldn’t tell her. Kylie had so much confirmed any bad history between the men should be kept quiet for now while the two girls tried to build up a relationship. So Cameron kept his mouth shut.
After his family was asleep, Cameron headed to the Old Port Tavern here in Portland. It was only a couple blocks from his hotel. He needed a few beers tonight. He wasn’t proud of it but when Kylie wasn’t around he usually had a beer while he tried to figure out what to do. Today his grandparents had been a little help though not what he wanted. They told him it was none of his business as Clark could no longer being doing that. But Cameron just knew he was. He was so distant from Haven, that much he could. Honestly he had no clue what she saw in him. There didn’t seem to be any love on his end for her. It was sad, like watching a train wreck happen. All Cameron could do was watch and hope Kylie didn’t hate him for keeping this from the two girls.
As he slid onto an empty bar stool he ordered a shot of vodka followed by a beer. As the clear liquid went down his throat, he looked up at the television screen. Even football seemed pointless at this time. With a shake of his head, Cameron pulled a gulp of his beer. As he set it back on the counter top, another gentleman came to occupy the seat next to him. A sideways glance left Cameron’s body. The man looked like shit-worse then Cameron. That was saying something. ”Hey Danny, give this man here whatever he wants. First drink on me.” No, Cameron wasn’t trying to pick the guy up just he looked like he needed a pick me up. His gaze stayed forward at the screen as he brought his bottle up to his lips. Just before he took another swig he asked, ”What dragged you around behind them?”

he said, move his hand as if yo give a friendly salute. Whiskey...straight. Louis ordered and waited for his drink. Once the whiskey came, Louis took the shot right down, let his hand holding the small glass fall to the counter and ordered another. Swiveling his stool to look at Cameron when he addressed him, Louis rubbed his hand over his face from forehead to chin sighing. A womannnn. He replied with some exasperation. Women were probably the leading cause of men becoming alcoholics. They were always upset about something or couldn't make up their minds, or made a bad choice, or did something wrong, or any number of things....but somehow they always found a way to be mad at their man or a man about it. What was a guy to do?![/ul]

This guy really look like hell had done a number on him and then spat him back up again. Cameron felt for him. No guy who looked like that should be drinking alone. Bad things happened when you drank alone in such a state. Cameron should know as his father drank away the pain of his wife’s death. That hurt everyone around him, especially little Cameron. Cameron grew up without a real father. Sure, his grandfathers and uncles did the best they could but it wasn’t the same as having your dad. Unless you had been there, you couldn’t explain it. That was on thing he had in common with Haven was they grew up without any real parents in their life. Sure, Kylie didn’t have her birth parents in her life but she grew up with parents who loved her. She called them mom and dad. Cameron didn’t have anyone he could call mom and dad or just call up to chat. Haven didn’t either. At least the two had that to bond over while the Stowe sisters tried to bond.
When Cameron heard this guy say a woman was the cause of his issues, he couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle. ”Join the club.” At least he didn’t look like this guy did. Cameron could’ve sworn he had seen him somewhere before but wasn’t sure. He shrugged it off. Being a doctor he saw people come and go all the time. This guy could have been a patient or somehow connected to a patient who had come through his emergency room. Or maybe another emergency room when he did his studies outside of Maine. ”I’m pretty sure any man who comes out drinking on a Tuesday looking to get drunk is doing it because of a woman.”
Once Cameron realized it was just a college football game on he shrugged off the show. A glance at his watch showed him that the Celtics game should be starting soon. He told the bartender who’s name he only knew because of the name tag. The guy turned it since more people would probably prefer the basketball game to a college team that wasn’t that good.
Cameron watched as the two teams went across the court. They ahd only missed a couple minutes of the game. He pushed his sleeves up before he turned his head to his bar top companion. ”What’d this woman do to you?” The great thing about bars was one could talk about whatever they wanted, no names involved, and it was all good. Especially with guys. Girls felt like when they poured themselves out to a stranger suddenly they had to be best friends. With guys-especially ones in a bar-they could chat, maybe give advice and then move on with each of their respectable ways. The advice didn’t need to be taken and they could forget about one another which was never hard to do. It was even easier for Cameron since he didn’t often come to the bars in Portland so the likelihood that he would see this guy again was minuscule. Hey, this guy could even know about Cameron’s dilemma and it wouldn’t be an issue because he had no idea who Cameron was dating! So he couldn’t go run to tell one of the girls. That was the beauty of this whole situation. Even if it wasn’t him then with the bartender. Any of those scenarios would work right out.

The club. He didn't want to join the club. He wanted to leave the club. He wanted to stay as far away from this "club" as possible. Louis had never had an interest in clubs, so why should he start now? Because a woman had hurt him? No...he didn't think so. But really he had no choice but to join this figurative club. As long as he was in Haven's proverbial Dog House, Louis had indeed joined "the club". Yah...I guess I kinda give myself away, huh? Louis ordered another Whiskey and slugged it down before ordering a beer. He hated this, drowning his sorrows in a bottle. Though many thought drinking was a regular activity for Louis, it honestly wasn't. He rarely ever drank and never did so to get drunk. This time he was tempted to though. Louis was tempted to get smashed and either sleep in his car in the lot all night, or walk to his parents and come back for it tomorrow when the hangover had subsided. Louis sighed and hung his head when Cameron asked what "This woman" had done to him. OH...it's not just her. He spoke truthfully and with a shrug, began to tell the tale. He talked about how they'd been madly in love and how they had been everything to each other and they had made all these wonderful, beautiful, plans to spend the rest of their life together. How they had talked about children and growing old. And then I got this offer for a record contract and a tour.....We fought over it and I left....without a word to her. She thought I'd just gone home. But unfortunately, I had taken the first flight I could get, to New York City. Louis took a sip of his drink. And now it's been four years and I came back hoping to find her single and still in love with me....ready to forgive......Well she's still in love with me....but she's not ready to forgive and she's engaged herself to this guy, who I have a feeling really couldn't care less about her in the end. But how do I convince her of that. I have no proof....Heck! I've never even met the guy. Louis huffed. Last week she threw me out, today I ran into and we talked for a while and than she kissed me....But not a sweet little kiss....NO! I mean she really laid it on me.....So I thought, okay, this is it! We're making progress. But no...She ran away and I went after her and it just ended in a big fight. A very downtrodden Louis ended with that. Finally after a few minutes had passed, he looked up at Cameron. So what are you here for? Girlfriend troubles as well? He assumed that was it, considering it was a Tuesday night as the man had said. Cameron only half paid attention to the game at all. As the guy started pouring his whole story out-like really pouring it out-he was kind of intrigued. It wasn’t often you found a guy just willing to let it all out like that. And really let it out. No the guy wasn’t bawling into his bottle of beer but Cameron could tell he was pretty torn up about this. Probably deeper then anything he had ever experienced or would ever experience. Cameron was only just finding out about being truly in love with someone. This guy had lived it, left it and regretted his actions. Honestly, Cameron thought he was a fool. Not for being in love or even leaving but expecting she’d just be waiting around pining for him. And he had no qualms about telling this guy the hard truth because someone had to give it to him. It was one thing to have a romantic soul and a completely different one to have an ignorant one.
”You idiot.” The slight attitude was present in his voice as Cameron shook his head. After he tilted his bottle back and finished off his beer before her motioned for another to be brought his way. ”You seriously thought after four years she’d just be sitting around waiting for you? Seriously, you’re a straight fool.” Cameron shook his head as he gripped his newest beer. He pointed it in Louis’ direction as he spoke. The bit of French Canadian in him caused him to exaggerate hand gestures and move his body in him too much when he talked. ”She probably can tell you thought that if you didn’t tell her that. That’s your second mistake. Maybe third. First was leaving and first was thinking she would be waiting.” Cameron may not be cupid but he knew a few things. He worked in a hospital over run by females and one of his best friends was a girl. He knew a thing or two about how they thought over things. If this girl was still in love with this guy then if he seemed to be trying to hard that would just make things ten times worse. Especially if she was already emotional.
When a question was thrown his way he shrugged. His problems were no where close to this guy’s. Their issues were miles apart. ”Yes and no. girlfriend and girlfriend’s sister troubles.” Cameron set his beer on the smooth wood surface as he thought of the best way to describe his issues.
”So my girlfriend has been trying to find her sister for a few years and they finally reconnected. Great, right? I thought so too as they seemed so happy to have found one another. Well then I realized the dick her sister is with. He’s cheated on her. I know it. He knows it. She doesn’t have a damn idea about it.” Cameron laughed. The whole irony of the situation was twisted! He had always been told to do the right thing in any situation. In this situation there were so many implications of bad that he just couldn’t do it. ”And I can’t tell her because my girlfriend is afraid if I do it will ruin their relationship. Her sister is so messed up emotionally probably because of this guy. He’s a straight up ass to her and everyone else. No one likes him. No one wants them to be together but she either doesn’t care, doesn’t notice or doesn’t want to admit it to herself. So I’m stuck with this information and I can’t do a damn thing despite them talking about having a family together and all the great things they’ll do as a family. And even if I could tell her she scares the shit out of me. She‘s got this creepy stare like ‘I will find you and stick your manhood in a jar‘ kind of look. It‘s creepy.”
He gazed sideways at the guy and chuckled. ”I think you take the cake in troubles tonight.” Cameron paused and thought over the guy‘s dilemma. No, not to give him any more grief for his decisions. Someone had to give him some actual advice-real advice because he had a feeling people gave him the “fluff” advice. You know-‘If you love her let her go. If she comes back it was meant to be. If she doesn’t, she as never yours to begin with.’ or ’Follow your heart.’ or ’Just move on. There’s plenty of fish in the sea.’ No, Cameron would try his best to give this stranger something better. ”Do you honestly want her back? Like straight up willing to do anything?” He paused a moment. ”And I mean want her back as in actually still want this future with kids with her. Not just want her back because of what you two had back years ago.“ Cameron felt bad for the guy. This poor man looked miserable and like everyone had just been handing him the short end of the stick lately. Cameron knew as well as anyone what that was like though his never had anything to do with a girl. While the guy mulled over the question, he took a few more swigs and checked out the progress of the game.

Louis pounded his fist on the bar. I didn't think she'd be waiting...I hoped she would be....After everything we'd been through together. After everything we were to each other...I'd hoped she hadn't been able to move on... he sighed. I just want her to be happy. Whether it's with him or wether it's with me...I just want her to be happy. Louis finished his drink and ordered a shot of Tequila. Louis was so in love with Haven. His love for her had never lessen. When you were truly in love with someone, it didn't just go away. You couldn't suddenly just fall out of love. Louis hadn't fallen out of love with Haven and Haven hadn't fallen out of love with Louis. But right now there love for each other was so painful, it almost couldn't be born. Perhaps it would always be like this, or perhaps one day he had Haven would patch it up and work it out and move on in life at each other's side. That was probably a little too optimistic at this point though. All Louis knew was that if he couldn't be with Haven, he wasn't going to be with anyone. She was the only woman for him. Louis was intrigued when Cameron said he was having issues with his girlfriend and her sister. Wow....two women at once...That's pretty intense. He laughed a little. Louis couldn't imagine if Haven had a sister around to gang up on him. He'd probably have been murdered, chopped up into a million tiny little pieces, burned and scattered in the ocean by now. Lucky for him, it was just Haven. Louis listened closely, glad he wasn't in that situation. Though he kinda felt like maybe he would take it over what he was dealing with at the moment. But he couldn't. So that was beside the point. He couldn't help but laugh when Cameron basically said the woman had the "stare of death". She sounded rather intimidating to be sure. After the vivid description, he was glad he didn't have to deal with the woman. He was glad he didn't even know her! Well...if I was you... Louis had a beer now and he tipped the top towards Cameron, instead of his finger, and continued. I would set him up....Catch him in the act, but do it with your girlfriends sister there....So she can see the truth with her own two eyes. Louis shrugged. If she still refuses....than you can just chalk it up to her own stupidity....That's just me though....maybe it's a bad idea. Louis nodded emphatically at Cameron's question. I would do absolutely anything to get her back...But she says there's not I can do....That it's over. He looked at Cameron. I mean....what do I do with that?[/ul]

Cameron jumped at Louis’ sudden outburst. He hadn’t meant to get him riled that up though they had just met and he was calling him an idiot. ”Ok ok hoped but in this case what’s the difference really?” The way the guy was talking was like he would keep pushing the situation about them getting back together. Another shocked chuckle left Cameron’s lips. What delusional world was this guy living in? he had actually hoped that this girl of his hadn’t moved on? Cameron frowned as he shook his head. ”That’s selfish and cruel of you to even hope she hadn’t moved on. Especially since you were the one that left her. What the hell else was she supposed to do? Pine around for a guy who chose his career over her? I’m sorry but girls don’t exactly take kindly to that. They want to know they come first. I guarantee she didn’t think she came first and found someone who did.”
Whenever Cameron had been in relationships, including now, he bent over backwards for them. Take Kylie-when she found her sister he only took a short nap before he drove them to Haven’s place. He sacrificed sleep for her. They hadn’t even been together a month and he still cared so deeply he didn’t care. He had already given her a key to his place so she could come there to relax in someplace “homey” when she needed out of the hotel. He didn’t even ask her to worry about bringing her own food or anything else. She was welcome to whatever she waned. Of course his place was boring as he didn’t have cable but at least he had Hulu and Netflix form a little live stream box. Cameron already felt-no knew-he loved the woman but didn’t want to scare her off but approach her with that just yet.
Cameron laughed as he shook his head. ”No not two women. At least not in the sense you think.” He did have to deal with both of them though. Not that he complained as it was important to Kylie. And Haven seemed to approve of him which was good. Then again he had been helpful around the house since her fiancée spent more time away from home then there. Things like painting and putting up some shelving as well as helping move the furniture in the other two bedrooms. That also allowed the sisters more private time together to talk while he kept busy. One time he had done it after work and exhausted himself to the point he fell asleep on the floor. Of course the girls thought taking a photo was better then waking him up. That wasn’t the best thing since Haven decided it was funny to post it to Facebook and tag him. Yeah, humorous.
Cameron grunted before a solitary puff of air went out his nostrils. ”Yeah I’ve thought about it except he doesn’t do it in town. He crashes at a friends or his office or something and usually hooks up with the girls that way. I found out purely on accident. Actually found out before I knew she was engaged to him.” He looked at his bottle with a thoughtful look on his face. Cameron hated to be in a position such as this one. It was confusing and annoying. ”She’s not stupid I just think she wants to believe the best in him. Which I get just sometimes that’s not the best way to go about things.”
Cameron set his beer aside before he leaned his arm against on the bar and put his weight on it. ”Ok then screw whatever she says about there’s nothing you can do. Except don’t beg her to come back and if you’ve already done that stop. That won’t help your case at all. You didn’t put her first last time but put your career first. Prove her that you’ve changed, that you’ve grown up. Don’t back down but just be friends for now while you try to show her in little ways you still want her. Just don’t say it. If this guy really doesn’t care about her she’ll start to see it with you around all the time. Especially if she is still in love with you like you say. If she is this relationship of hers could just be another attempt at moving on. Anyways, only when you’ve got her trust back should you ask her forgiveness.” Being raised by his grandparents he was filled with sound advice. For a bit of time his mother’s parents had separated and he got some great advice because of that. Especially since they had each started seeing someone else. Only when his grandmother asked for a divorce did his grandfather smarten up and fight for his wife. ”I may just be a stranger a few beers in but I think that’s your best bet at this point in time.”

he replied, putting his hands on the back of his head. I know how damn selfish it sounds...But you don't know what we were to each other....And I know because I left, it may not seem that she was everything to me...but she was...I was a kid and I made a stupid mistake....A really, dumb, freakin' ridiculous mistake....But I always planned to come back and fix things....Again, I know it sounds stupid...But I did. Louis realized how errant his thoughts and actions had been. But sometimes love and anger could cloud one's judgement. Mix love and anger, and one could be just plain blind....Like Louis here. Well...doesn't he have his own place or something? Can't you send her there and she'd go and find out he wasn't....Maybe she'd call him and he'd make some dumb excuse and he'd be caught? Louis asked. It all sounded simpler when put that way, but executing such a scheme would not prove easy. And then there was the question of whether or not that was the best way to do it. And sometimes when that happened to girls, yah they turned on their boyfriends who had been unfaithful, but they also turned on the one who had indirectly revealed it to them. It was risky business. Louis wouldn't have wanted to be the one tangled up in it. Louis shook his head. Ahh heck...I'm probably the last person on this earth you wanna talk to about women and all that stuff....obviously following my own instincts and advice hasn't worked out so well for me....it'll probably end up screwing you over too if you follow it. Louis slugged down the rest of the beer in his bottle and ordered another. Louis really listened hard and close what this guy was saying. He was making good...no...excellent points. But how to execute it? What could he do to earn back Haven's trust. She was so darn determined not to trust him. Not that he blamed her of course. He wouldn't trust him either. At least, not at first. As long as Clark was in the picture, there was no way of getting Haven to focus fully on himself. And there seemed to be no way to get Clark out of the picture. If only he was the guy that was cheating on his girl. That would have made it easy for Louis. Like he'd told Cameron, he would have figured out a way to set him up so the girl would catch him in the act. Well how would you about earning her trust back? he finally asked. [/ul]

Sounded selfish? The guy though it just sounded selfish. Apparently his head was really far in those clouds of his. He was entirely delusional. He made no effort to come back in these four years and when he decided to he expected her to just be waiting around. Cameron was a little disgusted with this guy. No matter how in love you were with a girl you just didn’t do something like that to them. Cameron had every right to cuss him out and he didn’t even know who the girl he did this to was. He actually had to mentally restrain himself. Taking sips from his beer helped with that sionce it allowed him to gather his thoughts to find a tactful way to approach things.
”No matter what you were to each other you left. You never called her nor went to see her. Especially if your love was that intense the hurt was probably ten times worse then normal. Girls don’t bounce back from that easily.” He really wanted to just hit this guy upside the head. If this had been someone Cameron knew he’d be in their face wondering why they did something like that. No matter if you were “a kid” or not no one did that to someone they loved. Plus he looked to be in his mid to late twenties. He had to be old enough to know better. He thought the guy deserved to feel this way. But, at the same time, he also seemed like he was genuinely torn up. Perhaps he really had just been dumb. If he tried hard enough maybe he could fix it but that girl would have to be very forgiving. He saw his bar companion having to do a lot of groveling.
Cameron snapped his fingers in the air then pointed them at Louis. ”Yes! He does have his own place. I totally forgot about that. I’d just feel bad sending her out there to catch him, you know? She hasn’t had an easy life.” No Haven hadn’t told him everything but she had told Kylie some stuff and they talked. Apparently her adoptive parents went to jail then she kept being moved from one foster home to another. She finally went to college a year early and her first boyfriend broke her heart bad. But Clark had apparently taken that pain away and she had never been this in love. It made Cameron want to throw up in his mouth to even hear him say she loved him. More so when he said it back. How could Clark do that to Haven? He was just messing with her heart. Maybe it’s because he was with Kylie but he felt oddly protective over her. No matter how scary she was.
Cameron nodded with a chuckled as he gazed in front of him. ”True but you did trigger me remember he has another place. Now I can figure something out. Maybe I should just gain his trust and catch him in the act that way.” Once nearly done his second beer Cameron ordered a third. He might have one or two more after this but then that’d be it. He didn’t want his family thinking he wa sa huge drunk or something. Just tonight was a rough night.
He sighed as he shrugged. ”I mean I don’t know this girl so…” He moved his head from side to side in thought. Not really a shake but a rattle. Then one idea hit him. ”Ok so you just left her last time right? Not even a goodbye? I say give her a couple weeks. Go for New Year’s. Tell her it’s your resolution to be friends or something. Even if she says to leave her alone just prove you won’t leave her again. If you leave town for work tell her and tell her when you should be back and you can’t wait to grab coffee or a beer to tell her about it. Don’t disappear even if she tells you to. And like I said don’t beg for her back or tell her you still love her or miss her or any crap like that. You’re at square one. Actually, you’re at square negative one since she’s engaged. You need to slowly woo and get to know her again.” Cameron had no idea where he was getting half this stuff from. Maybe more of the words his grandfather had drilled in his head was rooted in then he thought. ”Find a way to gather yourself these next two weeks then start back at square negative one, man. That’s all you can do.”

He grumbled and took a swig of his drink, and practically dropped it back on the counter. But if it's what's best for her, maybe it's just better to do it that way. Louis commented. Sometimes....most times...doing what's best for someone, does't make us feel too good about ourselves. But we shouldn't let our own feelings discourage us from doing what's right. He shrugged. He could be totally off the mark. But that was pretty much what he'd have done if he was in this dude's situation. I feel bad for her...whoever she is....and you for having to be in the mix up. The whole sister thing definitely complicated things. If he was just a friend of the woman's the worse that could happen was losing her friendship over it. But no, he was the boyfriend of her sister. Not only were her good graces towards him at risk, but his relationship with her sister as well. Relationships were beginning to look as though they were so not worth it! Well if you catch him...and then tell her, will she believe you? Or is she the, "I gotta see it with my own eyes" type? Louis put forth the query. You really think that'll work? Louis asked anxiously. Thinking about it, he quite liked the idea. If he could earn her back as a friend, then they'd have something to work with. And maybe, in time, she'd just admit she couldn't live without him and get rid of Clark. All he could do was hope. Hope that he didn't mess things up again. Hope that she'd let him be her friend. Hope that she would dump Clark. Hope that she would come back to him. Can't hurt to give it a try....Just hope she doesn't tell me to hit the road or something. [/ul]

Cameron could tell it was really bothering the guy. He felt torn for feeling sympathy and wanting to smack him even though they didn’t know one another. He wouldn’t continue to kick him when he was already down enough. All Cameron did was shake his head as he finished off his drink. This would be his last one since he really should head out to try to sleep soon. That and he wanted to call Kylie to see how moving in had gone. He wondered if Clark ended up coming around to help or if the guy had stayed in August. Probably stayed in August if he had to guess correctly.
A sour look came on Cameron’s face. ”It’s not just about my feelings. I’ll bounce back from it just fine and can take whatever fury she’ll unleash. I just don’t think she’ll bounce back as easily.” After every private moment with Clark Haven seemed ready to cry. That was the complete opposite of how a relationship should be. There were moments Cameron wondered if they were doing fine in that area then felt like throwing up because that was Kylie’s sister. Just he was very concerned about the situation. It was all unhealthy. ”She’d probably have to see it herself which is what sucks the most. Or maybe she’d believe her sister, I don’t know.”
Cameron shrugged as he asked for the cost of his tab. ”Not sure but it’s worth a shot. After all your tactics thus far have failed. I don’t think you have any other choice but if this guy is a Grade A Dick then prove to her you’re not. At least not anymore.” Cameron pulled out some cash and handed it to the bartender before he looked back at the guy. ”Don’t give up. Just keep up even if she says to go away. Prove to her you’re not leaving and mean things.” Cameron slipped off his barstool and went to walk away. ”I wish you luck and hope I don’t see you in that same spot next time I blow through town, friend. Night.” And with that Cameron left to call the girl who mean everything to him. He now appreciated her even more then before. Not that he didn’t before but hearing this guy’s story, Cameron really wanted to hear her voice.
