let's leave no words unspoken AND SAVE REGRETS FOR THE BROKEN. Will you even look back when you think of me? All I want is a place to call my own && mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone dominic guided his boat into the dock with ease. considering he'd been doing it since he was just a kid, that wasn't surprising. he tied it off, secured it, then began gathering his things. he'd been out fishing, though not for the big stuff he needed his crew for. no, this had been for his own personal enjoyment. dom had been out for a few hours and caught five big ones, which wasn't too bad. he picked up the case of beer he'd taken with him, and the bag that contained the food he'd brought with him. it was a healthy amount, but what dp you expect with a guy? dominic had a big appetite, so the majority of what he'd started out with was gone.
he stepped onto the dock, the fish he'd caught hanging from a rope over his shoulder. a babysitter was with his daughter, and since it was still pretty early, only one o'clock he decided to relax a little. dominic set his bag and the beer down, dropped the fish in the water and secured the other end of the rope on the dock. he sat down, his legs hanging down over the water, and grabbed a beer. he'd had one already that day, but wasn't too worried about it. the alcohol content was pretty low, plus he had a pretty high tolerance. dominic didn't drink all the time. in fact, he only drank when his daughter wasn't around. maybe he was being too careful in doing that, but he didn't want her to be around the stuff, or for it to affect his behavior when he was with her. he wanted to be the best dad possible, and taking care of your daughter, even when only slightly impaired, didn't seem like the best idea to him.
dominic was glad to have some time on his own, though. he was getting in one of his depressed moods that sometimes hit him. he tried not to show it when around his friends or his sister, though it could be hard. even with everleigh, despite how little she was. she always knew when he was sad, even if he was trying to act cheerful. so dominic was working on improving in that area. he didn't want his little girl worrying about him. that was his job, to worry about her. though he probably did that too much. but he was a parent and really couldn't help it. especially with how much he loved her.
he downed half the bottle, just then realizing how thirsty he was, though water would have helped more. dominic opened his bag, pulling out the chips he had yet to open. they were salt and vinegar, his favorite. it was an odd combo, chips and beer. but he didn't care. despite having eaten enough for two already, his stomach was beginning to rumble a little. his clothes smelled like fish, as did his hands, but he was of course used to that. he'd grown up with that smell everywhere. dominic did, however, pull out a towel that he wiped his hands off on. he may not have minded the smell, but the taste was a bit different.
he gazed out at the boats in the harbor and farther out, squinting a little from the sun. without the breeze it would have been a pretty warm day. though being used to this climate, he was comfortable with the way it was. though he did have a sweater on, which no doubt helped with that. dominic had eaten some of the chips, but he was focusing mainly on his beer, his thoughts wondering to different things, and finally settling on his wife. well, ex-wife. which was normal for him. he thought about her all the time, often wondering how much she thought about him, if at all. it had been three years since she divorced him, and he still kept a picture with him all the time. dominic had one in his wallet, one in the cabin of his boat and even in the bag he had with him now. he reached over and pulled it out then took another swig of beer. he didn't know why he insisted on torturing himself like this. well, yes he did. it was because he still loved her.

Normally whenever Peyton needed to escape her day to day life, she would immerse herself within the pages of a good book. However, there were frequent enough times where Peyton couldn't stand the thought of sitting still. During these times, Peyton tended to try and keep herself active. When it came to exercise, Peyton wasn't one to to work out at the gym, but instead preferred to take part in outdoor activities such as running or swimming. There were times where she would go for a long run to clear her head and then cool off by swimming in the harbor. Today was one of those times.
Classes for her final year of college had yet to commence, so she would normally be working at her father's inn. However, today was a day she had off, which enabled her to set aside some well earned personal time for herself. She had ran from her home at the back of her father's inn, right down to the docks located in the harbor. Once her feet had landed on one of the wooden docks, she stopped for a moment to allow her breath to catch up to her after her long run. After taking a swig of water from her water bottle, Peyton removed her socks and trainers, followed by the sports shorts and tank top she was wearing — she had already taken the liberty of putting on a black bikini underneath her clothes before she left the house.
Once undressed, Peyton slipped her clothing into her shoulder bag that contained a towel, her water and her other necessities and hid it behind a load of crates that had been lugged onto the dock. Without wasting anymore time, Peyton dove into the water with a certain gracefulness that came from living by the ocean all her life and the practice that came from swimming so often. As she swam, she made sure to weave in and out of the boats that floated in the harbor with care. Peyton preferred to swim among the docks or in the cove that wasn't usually recommended for swimming purposes. She liked to avoid the tourists that typically found their way to the main beach each summer. However, the main beach was too crowded for Peyton's liking – well, when she wanted nothing more than to be alone, anyway.
Peyton swam for a while, enjoying the cool water on her skin as she splashed about. She dived under water, and swam elegantly, blocking out the world around her as her long brown hair, danced playfully behind her. When she rose to the surface to get some air, Peyton was caught by surprise when a pair of feet appeared in front of her, dangling from the dock above. She swam back a little in order to identify the owner of the feet and when she did, she recognized that she knew said owner — very well, in fact.
"Oh, hey Dom. I didn't see you there. What brings you to this neck of the woods?...Well, ocean — if you want to get technical." Peyton greeted her friend playfully from the water. Dominic was more like an older brother to Peyton since she had pretty much grown up with him. She knew that it made complete sense for him to be the harbor (being a fisherman and all), but that didn't stop Peyton in finding amusement from the manner in which they had bumped into each other. Peyton was known for sarcasm, even when she was being friendly, it was her kind of humor and you were either in favor of it or you weren't.

let's leave no words unspoken AND SAVE REGRETS FOR THE BROKEN. Will you even look back when you think of me? All I want is a place to call my own && mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone dominic stared down at the picture of her. she was breathtakingly beautiful. always had been, in his opinion. he continued to stare down at it, his forehead wrinkled as he frowned. he didn't hate her, at all. he felt betrayed, of course, which was only natural. but dominic could actually look past that and still love her. he had a hard time believing that it'd been three years already, since seemed like it'd been just a week ago. he could remember everything exactly how it happened. how he'd begged her not to leave him, reminding her to think about everleigh and telling her he still loved her. but it hadn't mattered. she'd told him right then she didn't love him anymore, but dominic had had a hard time believing that at the time. he still did.
he looked up, tears in his eyes, as he slowly crumpled the picture up. dominic knew he had to move on, but it didn't help seeing her every two weeks. of course, he looked forward to those times, because that was usually the only chance he got to lay eyes on her. but he needed to start sending someone else to drop everleigh off and pick her back up. the babysitter could do it. then maybe he could get her out of his head. yeah right. dominic let out a sigh as he looked back down, opening his hand to reveal the ball that used to be a picture. he took another sip of beer, realizing it was almost gone. he felt like drinking a lot today, though. he quickly took another sip, finishing it off and grabbed another bottle. dominic hadn't been drunk in a while, but he was feeling like he wanted to get there today. and it was only one o`clock.
or he could go for a swim. dominic didn't know what he wanted, honestly. other than to have his wife back. he looked down at the water, then remembered how cold he'd get if he decided to do it. he was used to it, of course, but even for locals like himself, it was cold. in the end dominic chose not to. he didn't feel like freezing today. he thought back to the few times he'd taken everleigh out. either in his boat or swimming. she'd loved it, though she wasn't able to stay in the water long. she got cold way too quick, which was only natural for a little one like her. she'd always beg to stay in longer because she loved it so much. that didn't surprise him, though. it was in her blood. but dominic also didn't want her catching a cold.
thinking about his daughter had got his mind off his ex, so he was feeling a bit better, though he still planned on drinking all the beer he'd brought with him. dominic was just about to throw the picture in the water when he heard a bit of splashing and looked down to see peyton. he smiled immediately. they'd grown up together, so she was like a sister to him. they even fought like siblings at times, though they mostly got along. "oh, you know," he shrugged, "just hunting elephants." dominic's smile had widened into a grin at her teasing. she had a good sense of humor, which he liked. some people didn't get peyton, but he did. "what about you?" he asked. swimming, obviously. he tossed the balled up picture into his bag and grabbed an unopened beer. dominic held it up in offering to her. "i got some extra if you want one." they sometimes drank together, though not to the point of getting drunk, usually.

From knowing Dominic for the majority of her life so far, Peyton could sense when he was upset about something. However, she also knew that he wouldn't appreciate her catching him on it — she for one, hated being caught in a moment of vulnerability. Despite her tendency to be quite outspoken and honest, she was aware of the times she had to tread carefully — especially when it came down to the feelings of her closest friends. Even though Peyton had only just bumped into Dominic, she had made the decision not to call him on the fact that he looked lonely and miserable, sitting on the deck whilst consuming plenty of beer on his own. It wouldn't do him any good to bombard him with questions right now, Peyton knew that much.
"I'm not sure I agree with you hunting those poor creatures." Peyton replied lightly as she tread water. Her lips formed into a small grin as her eyes danced with amusement. "Clearly, I've just transformed into a mermaid in order to escape this town." She answered his question with a silent chuckle, a part of her actually wishing that her words were true and not simple nonsense. She wanted nothing more than to escape her hometown and see the world.
"Don't mind if I do." Peyton accepted Dominic's offer of having a beer with him. Grabbing onto a rope that was tied around one of the pillars that held up the dock (that was used to tether down boats so they couldn't float away), Peyton pulled herself up and out of the water. She was less graceful than she would have liked, but still managed to clamor onto the deck successfully, before taking a seat next to Dominic, accepting the beer that he handed to her. "Thanks." She said with a smile as she removed the cap from her bottle and then took a swig as she gazed out to sea.
In some ways, Peyton was a tomboy. She wasn't one to party very often, but preferred to have a few relaxing beers with her friends – that were usually of the male variety — from time to time. Peyton found that drinking cocktails or sweeter drinks (that were usually classed as more feminine) no longer suited her taste buds and she found that she was opting for typically manly drinks more and more these days.
"So, did you catch anything today?" Peyton asked, making casual conversation as she referred to fishing. She shivered slightly as the wind caught her skin, that was dripping wet with salt water. She simply ignored her slight discomfort, not feeling inclined to return to the other dock in order to collect her belongings as of yet.

let's leave no words unspoken AND SAVE REGRETS FOR THE BROKEN. Will you even look back when you think of me? All I want is a place to call my own && mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone with how well peyton knew him, dominic had no doubt she caught onto the fact that he was feeling down. but, she was such a great friend, if she did have a clue, she didn't act like it. that's what dominic loved about her, among quite a few other things. she was a great girl, and any guy would be lucky to have her. if it weren't for the fact that he loved her as a sibling, he could see the two of them as a couple. but as it was, dominic would never be able to thinking of her as anything but a sister. and that was just fine with both of them.
dominic laughed. he wasn't sure why he'd said elephants, of all things. he'd just being trying to think of something completely random, and it was definitely that. "well, if it's any consolation, i didn't get any. apparently i'm very bad at it," he informed her, with mock despair in his voice, making a sad face. dominic couldn't keep that going for long, though, and he was soon smiling again. peyton always had that affect on him. "ahh, yes. should have known." he played along, though he knew that she was wishing it to be true. she didn't want to stay in hope harbor forever, and he didn't blame her, though dominic would be content to spend the rest of his life living in the small town. he didn't have the yearning she did to traveling the world. he was cool, and everything, but fishing was more of a passion for him than a job, and he didn't like to spend time away from it. even the few times when he'd been hurt whilst doing it and been in the hospital for a bit, dominic had hated being away, and couldn't wait to get back. he couldn't imagine spending months away from it. he'd gone on vacation before, of course, but no more than two weeks. that had been enough for him. he was a hard worker, so spending all that time just relaxing got to him a bit. the only time he'd spent a longer period away from it was his honeymoon. a whole month. of course, he'd had a brand new wife to distract him from it, so it hadn't bothered him much. in fact, the time had seemed to fly by.
he was glad peyton had decided to have a drink with him. now that he thought about it, and wasn't so upset, dominic knew it would be better to not drink all that beer. he watched her climb up, a bit awkwardly, holding back a chuckle, but allowing a grin. he nodded when she thanked him. "no problem." he took along drink from his as she began on hers. "oh, i have food, too," he informed her, just then remembering. dominic motioned to the open bag of chips sitting between them, then reached for the bag that held the rest of what he'd brought with him. he pulled out some more junk food, half of a turkey sandwich and a container of yogurt. checking to see if there was anything else he'd forgot, he grabbed the balled up picture, not realizing what it was till he'd pulled it out all the way. dominic quickly tossed it back in, hoping peyton wouldn't notice, and pretended it hadn't happened. "help yourself."
dominic liked the fact that peyton was somewhat tomboyish. some guys didn't like that, but he didn't mind. of course, he liked the girly girl types, too. his ex was one. though he'd happily go out with a girl who wasn't. dominic wasn't all that picky about it women, as long as they weren't psycho and didn't nag constantly. those were two things he couldn't handle at all. "of course!" he exclaimed, pretending to be offended that she'd think otherwise. dominic reached down and lifted the rope that held his catch, grinning as he showed them off. "got some pretty nice ones," he stated, looking forward to the meals he'd make from them. he was a pretty good cook, especially when it came to fish. he noticed her shiver and reached into his bag for a blanket. dominic always kept a warmer set of clothes and blankets with him when he went out. just in case something happened. "here" he unfolded it and draped it around her shoulders. it was fleece, so she'd warm up quick.

There was a time where Peyton and Dominic's families would joke about the two of them getting together and one day getting married so that their families would be one. However, the idea just seemed so wrong to the pair given the way the two had always seen each other. Peyton loved Dominic, but she loved him as if he was her own flesh and blood. He had been a great comfort to her when her actual brother had skipped town, which made her forever grateful and content with their sibling-like status.
As they exchanged their silly banter, Peyton was unable to remove the amused grin from her lips. The lightheartedness that their interaction had brought was just what Peyton had needed before she climbed onto the dock. As much as she had enjoyed her swim, Peyton was glad to be out of the water for one day as she seemed to have tired herself out a bit after all the exercise she had execute upon herself.
"Thanks." Peyton replied gratefully after Dominic offered her some food. After her swim she had meant to grab some lunch back at the Malone family home (that was located behind the inn), but she decided that spending some time with Dominic was the much preferable option. After some consideration, she settled her beer down and took a few chips that sat in the bag that rested between them.
At Dominic's exclamation, Peyton playfully rolled her eyes and let out a silent chuckle – clearly amused. "Was this fishing trip for anyone in particular? Or just yourself?" Peyton asked, knowing all too well about the passion that Dominic had for his job. A part of Peyton envied him for that. She suspected that she wouldn't have resented Hope Harbor as much if she had seen a bit of the world and had settled down with a job that she was passionate about. She smiled gratefully as Dominic wrapped a blanket around her. Peyton had always admired Dominic's passion for others.
"How's Miss Everleigh?" She asked fondly, genuinely interested in hearing about the wellbeing of Dominic's daughter who Peyton had fallen in love with the moment she had first cuddled the infant version of Everleigh when she was born. Peyton had crowned her the cutest child in the world and had taken on the role of 'babysitter' on many occasions. She believed that Dominic made an excellent dad.

let's leave no words unspoken AND SAVE REGRETS FOR THE BROKEN. Will you even look back when you think of me? All I want is a place to call my own && mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone their bond had only strengthened after her real brother left. dominic remembered all too well the times they'd spent together afterwards, him trying to comfort her and get her mind off of it. it had been difficult, understandably; especially with the passing of her mother before that. that was something else they had in common. though, dominic had lost his mom long before that. since peyton had been older, it had no doubt been harder on her than it had been on him.
dominic ran his eyes along her bikini clad body, obviously inspecting her. "i think you need to eat more, pj," he told her in a playfully disapproving tone, as he pinched at her exposed stomach. he'd come up with that nickname for her a long time ago. that, and peyjay. though dominic preferred the former. "lookin' pretty skinny to me." he was teasing, of course, since peyton had always been a stick; even when they were younger. never to the extreme, however.
"mhm," he replied, nodding, and grabbing a handful of chips for himself. the nice thing about hanging out with peyton was that they didn't have to talk the entire time. they could sit there in comfortable silence, and neither of them minding. or they could be laughing hysterically at each other. either way, they enjoyed spending time together. they even held hands, at times, which some people might think a little odd, considering they weren't romantically involved, but dominic didn't really care what people thought. some of his guy friends thought that they were just keeping their relationship a secret, even though he'd told them multiple times that they were just friends.
dominic shook his head at her question. "nope, just me." he liked fishing, either way, though if he had the choice, he'd fish for himself more often. he was a huge fan of it; one of his favorite meals, though you'd think he'd be sick of the stuff by now. but dominic had grown up eating it at least three times a week. plus, the smell had been introduced to him as soon as he'd been brought home from the hospital. everleigh seemed to enjoy a fish dinner, too, and he hoped it'd stay that way. of course, he didn't expect her to want to go fishing all the time, since it was a dirty business; but then, maybe she'd be more of a tomboy.
he grinned when peyton asked about his daughter. "she is doing great, as usual," dominic informed her. " last time i checked, anyway." he always texted or called the babysitter when he wasn't with his daughter, just to make sure everything was ok. maybe he worried too much, but he would rather that then not worried enough. dominic couldn't help it, even if he tried. he loved that child more than anything or anyone else. "she was asking about you the other day," he continued, smiling. everleigh couldn't quite say 'peyton', and it came out sounding more like 'peyin' or just 'peypey'. the fact that she couldn't say her words right yet had dominic laughing almost every time she talked. he wished she'd stay like that forever, knowing he'd miss it when she got to talking normally.
