Kylie walked swiftly out of Cameron's apartment, trying her best to keep it together, at least until she got to the car, as there were other people about. She got into her vehicle, dropping her purse on the passenger seat. Kylie's head dropped to rest on the steering wheel as her body shook with the sobs that wouldn't stop. She couldn't believe what was happening. Had Cameron really just broken up with her?! Did he really feel that he had no place in her world? Could he really not see what she worshiped him? That her heart belonged completely and utterly to him? Cameron had explained it several times, but she still didn't understand it. How, in a matter for a few days, could he go from loving her whole heartedly, or at least saying he did, to saying that he just didn't seem them working out. Sure they were from two different places societally, but that had never bothered either of them before. What had changed?! Kylie felt like her entire world had come crashing down in the span of 15 minutes. She felt like she had nothing else to live for, like she could never go on with this career now. Kylie didn't want it anymore! All she wanted was Cameron
After a few moments, she pulled her cell phone out and dialed her sister Haven's number, turning the ignition on and putting the car into gear while she waited for her to pick up. Hi Haven...I um.... Kylie was trying not to sound too terribly upset, as she pulled out of the parking space and pulled onto the road. But she wasn't doing a very good job of it, a she could barely get the words out. Cam.....Cameron just...broke up with me. she sobbed. And I'm pregnant...but I-I couldn't tell him....because I didn't want him to feel like he had to stay....because of the b-baby...We'd just both turn out to be m-miserable if both our hearts weren't in the relationship...So don't you get any bright ideas of telling him....I will eventually. But I want it come from me. Kylie let go of the steering wheel for a moment to wipe away the tears that were obstructing her view. What am I supposed to do now? It was more of a rhetorical question than anything, but it was the one on her mind. What was she supposed to do without Cameron here to support her. She'd just become a single mother, and while she wouldn't give the baby up for anything whatsoever, the thought of raising him or her on her own terrified her.
Kylie turned onto the main street through the little town, heading towards the home she shared with Haven. Perhaps she should have waited to place the call and just talked to her sister in person. But Kylie had needed to talk to someone, right away. Having gone through something similar, she thought Haven would understand the most. Wiped more tears away as a steady stream continued to obstruct her view. I just don't understand what happened? He said he has no place in my world and that he just doesn't see us working out. After a moment, Kylie said goodbye to Haven, since she was almost home and said she'd talk to her in a few minutes. As she drove, not paying attention to her speed, Kylie came up on a light that changed from yellow to red, too quickly for her to stop. As her vehicle reached the middle of the intersection, another vehicle, coming from the left, having the green light, rammed the side of her vehicle, crushing it in.
Paramedics and the Fire department were called to the scene of the crash. The other drive has suffered minor whip lash, but was otherwise un-injured. Kylie was unconscious and had to be cut from the vehicle before being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

Oliver waited in the Ambulance dock as the vehicle rushed in, sirens and lights blazing. He helped the paramedic who had hopped out of the front passenger seat open the doors and two more paramedics jumped out and pulled the stretcher out. As soon as Oliver saw the woman's face, his heart sank into his stomach. It was Kylie Stowe, his co-worker Cameron's girlfriend. Breathing deeply, Oliver followed the paramedics into the hospital. Talk to me. he demanded from one of the paramedics, while the others began to hook Kylie up to monitors and got an iv started. Car accident, according to witnesses, she ran a red light, never even slowed down.....We suspect concussion, she has a few broken ribs, possible internal bleeding, and spinal fracture? Oliver nodded. Alright lets get her... She's flat lining! Oxygen levels at 40% and dropping Oliver was interrupted. He ran for the defibrillator and readied it. Clear! He tried once to no avail. Come on Kylie! again he tried, this time with success. Alright, we're not going to take any chances on this one. I want a tracheotomy, and Jane... He looked towards one of the nurses. We need a sonogram of her heart. If she does have internal bleeding, it could be pooling there.
Oliver performed the emergency tracheotomy, while another nurse cut off Kylie's shirt and undergarments and performed the sonogram. ]Doctor Welcott...you need to look at this. Oliver rushed over and looked at the sonogram. I found no bleeding around the heart, so I decided to check near where the ribs were broken and the abdomen....is that what I think it is? Oliver nodded grimly. No heartbeat? The nurse shook her head. D&C She asked. Perhaps... It will be up to her when she wakes up, or the family if...she wakes up...For now we need an MRI of her Brain and Spine to see how much damage was done. Bring me the results as soon as they come in. I'll be in my office, making some calls.
Oliver made his way to his office. He wanted to call Cameron first, but standard procedure was to call family. Oliver called her parents first, only getting a machine. He decided not to leave a message. He thought Kylie's sister might have know how to get a hold of them. Oliver dialed her number. Hello...is this Haven....Haven, this is Doctor Oliver Welcott....your sister Kylie has been in an accident...She's unconscious, but stable....I've tried to contact her parents, but couldn't get ahold of them.....Haven....I wouldn't normally ask this over the phone...But, did you know that...Kylie was pregnant? Unfortunately, the baby died on impact...there's nothing anyone could have done. Oliver nodded and answered Haven as she explained about the break up and how Kylie didn't want Cameron to know. He thought under these circumstances, perhaps he should be told, but it wasn't his place. They had to abide by the wishes of the patient and family.
After hanging up with Haven, Oliver called Cameron. Cameron....I need you over at the hospital. Got a pretty challenging patient here...But we need to talk in my office. He did his best to sound completely calm and normal. They didn't need Cameron wrecking, trying to get over here. Meanwhile, Oliver placed a call to Brooklyn, leaving a message on her phone. Brooklyn...Oliver....Kylie's been in a car crash....you need to get home as soon as possible. When Cameron arrived, coming straight into Oliver's office, the British doctor closed and locked the door behind them. Cameron...I didn't want to tell you on the phone...But Kylie was in an accident....a pretty bad one...Haven's on her way over now and her parents are flying in from Chicago I'm sure...as long as Haven got ahold of them...Now listen...she's stable, but still unconscious. We have her on a treac tube right now. She had a couple of broken ribs, but no internal bleeding however, she had a pretty bad concussion. And the paramedics think her spine might be fractured. We're prepping her for surgery now.

Haven was curled up on the couch half listening to the news, half reading a book when her phone rang for the first time. She switched the television to mute and tossed the book aside as she picked up the phone. ”Hello?” Haven listened to Kylie with a furrowed brow as she sat up. ”Whoa wait what?” Cameron broke up with her? Seriously? She listened to her younger sister as she rubbed at her forehead. And Kylie was pregnant! Well her night went form dull to crazy in a heart beat. ”No I won’t tell him, I promise. Just, come home ok? Come home and you and I, we’ll figure this out.” The two chatted another moment before Haven hung up the phone. Well, her being pregnant explained a lot of things that had been going on. With a sigh she turned the television back on but instead of going back to her book, she got up and went to make some food. Just some simple chicken noodle soup from scratch to help calm Kylie’s nerves. She had gotten everything mixed when her phone rang again. She turned the heat down as she reached for it. It was a number she didn’t recognize but answered it anyways. ”Hello?” As the voice on the other line spoke, Haven’s face went ashen. ”Oh God…” Her hands gripped at the counter to try to steady herself. She felt a wave of nausea sweep her body, a sign she was under stress. ”Uh she told me maybe an hour ago. I was wondering why it was taking so long to get home…Ok you can‘t tell anyone else.” Haven explained everything going on before she hung up the phone. She just grabbed her wallet and jacket after slipping on her shoes and going out the door. When Haven got to the Emergency Room they directed her to Oliver so that he could take her to Kylie. When they got to the room he had to support Haven as she began to sob. The sight was hard to see. A tube was coming out of her throat as well as an IV and wires to monitor her vitals. Apparently, until her parents arrived in Maine, she’d have to be Kylie’s medical proxy thus making all decisions. How could Haven make the hard decisions? She steadied herself before the went in and to Kylie’s bedside. She sat her body in a chair before she grabbed her sister’s hand without the IV in it. ”Kylie? Sis, it’s me. If you can hear me please wake up. Please, please wake up Kylie. I can‘t lose you.” A few tears escaped Haven’s eyes as she watched for any signs of life. After a good ten minutes Kylie began to stir. She called Oliver in who grabbed a notepad and a pen. ”Kylie I’m here, hun. Just don’t move and don’t try to speak ok?”click for outfit!

Kylie's eyes fluttered open as the sound of Haven's voice penetrated her induced sleep. Everything was blurry for a moment before her eyes focused on a drop ceiling. She felt something going down her throat, almost seeming almost like it was choking her and a constant *beep* *beep* pierced her ears. Kylie heard Haven's voice again and she turned her head slightly, not able to turn it far because everything she was hooked up to, to look at Haven. Kylie's eyes grew large as she finally realized where she was. The hospital?! What had happened? The last thing she remembered was getting the phone with Haven.
Kylie's eyes searched the room, as she tried not to panic. Was that a treac tube? Didn't they only give those to people who were dying?! Her eyes snapped back in Haven's direction as she heard Oliver say her name. He placed a pad on her lap and put the pen in her hand. Why am I here? She wrote, and looked at Haven for the answer. Though her brain was foggy, Kylie could understand, at least in some capacity what had happened. Looking at her feet, she suddenly realized, she couldn't feel her legs. Why can't I feel my legs? she wrote frantically on the pad, her eyes wide with fear. Oliver looked concerned and excused himself from the room to look at her MRI report, telling Kylie not to worry.
While he was gone Kylie stared at the ceiling or a few minutes, trying to clear the fog in her brain, but couldn't because of the medications. Suddenly she grabbed the pen and frantically scrawled another urgent question. The baby? Kylie watched as Haven hesitated then told her. Tears immediately welled up in her eyes and spilled over. The baby was gone? The little innocent life that had lived within her, only for a short time, was now gone. The pain of the loss seemed worse than she could bare. Kylie wanted to curl up and sob herself to death. After a moment, she took the pen again and wrote in all caps DON'T TELL CAMERON! And then she stared at the ceiling again, tears streaming down her face, as one of her hands came to rest on her abdomen.
Oliver returned a few moments later and explained to Haven and Kylie that she had an injury to her lower lumbar area. They needed to prep her for emergency surgery and that he was sure they could repair the area and after some physical therapy, she would walk again. Kylie nodded slowly and closed her eyes, exhaustion overcoming her.

Haven had never been so scared in her life. Yes she had been abused but it was nothing compared to seeing your family lying on a hospital bed, hooked up to tubes and wires. Her heart felt like it was breaking. She got as much of her tears out as possible in the hallway while talking to Oliver so she wouldn’t stress out Kylie when she woke up. Of course it was hard to hide everything. Haven’s eyes were rimmed in red. A large lump was swallowed back as she waited for Oliver to bring the writing instruments to Kylie. Haven tried to calm herself as she sat carefully on the edge of Kylie’s bed and grasped the hand she wasn’t writing with.
”They said you ran a red light. Another car, they hit your car. On the drivers side. Kylie, they had to cut you out of the vehicle.” Haven licked her lips as she tried to stem the flow of tears. Kylie needed her big sister to be strong for her. Today was an overwhelming day all around. It became hard when she mentioned not being able to feel her legs. She frantically looked to Oliver for answers but he just excused himself. Haven drew in sharp breaths. She was so scared right now. And the two girls only had one another to lean on. Haven’s hand rubbed along Kylie’s arm in an attempt to keep her calm. Well, more to keep them both calm. Until Kylie’s parents got here, they literally only had one another.
Haven’s back stiffened at her question as she looked in the direction of Kylie but she focused on a spot of the bed just above the bed. ”Kylie…the….you lost the baby.” Her voice was quiet and shaky as she shook her head to clear her thoughts. She wished she could reach down and hold Kylie but she couldn’t because of all the machines she was hooked up too. ”I’m so sorry Kylie. I wish I could take all of this from you.” When she asked Haven not to tell Cameron about the baby she nodded as she reached up to smooth Kylie’s hair. She didn’t stop even as Oliver explained the surgery nor after the younger Stowe had fallen asleep. She only stopped when they took Kylie away for surgery and then Haven went to the waiting room. Her body collapsed in a chair as she let the tears fall down. This had to be the worst month for the Stowe sisters ever.

Cameron had eventually left the chair he had been occupying and sprawled out on his bed. He just stared at the ceiling blankly, feeling numb. That was the only way to describe it. He thought of going to Rivalries but that make him no better then his old man. He refused to drown his feelings in a bottle. At least not until some time had passed and then he’d cut himself off. He’d bring the cash to pay for what he needed and after that ran out, be done with it. Cameron wouldn’t become an alcoholic. He had too much going for him to do that to himself. And yet, he had nothing going as well. When his house phone rang he ignored it at first. But then his cell went off and he fished it out of his pocket. It was the hospital. He groaned before he hit the green button. ”Hello?” Cameron listened to Oliver, all while his eyes stayed on the ceiling. Normally he wouldn’t come in on his days off but Oliver seemed to need him. ”Yeah I’ll be there soon.” He hung up the phone and groaned as he rolled out of his bed and went to the bathroom. Cameron splashed some cold water on his face to try revive himself a bit. He couldn’t be focusing on his own misery when there was a patient case that needed his attention. Cameron slipped on his boots and a jacket before he drove to the hospital. He honestly didn’t remember anything of the car ride. After he parked, he peeled off his jacket in case he had to stay longer then expected. Plus, he wanted to feel the biting cold of the Maine air in February to wake him up more. As he walked in a couple people gave him grim looks. Did he really look that bad? He didn’t think so but he could be wrong. H made his way to Oliver’s office which was small but all of their offices were small. He heard Oliver’s muffled voice on the phone so he rapped on the door with his knuckles and waited until the door was open. ”I really don’t want to send all day on this case, Oliver. I’ve had a shitty day.” Cameron sat in the chair, intent on hearing about the patient. He did not expect the patient to be Kylie. Cameron felt sick to his stomach and a new wave of tears threatened to spill over. Outside of his family, Kylie was the only person Cameron had ever cried in front of. Apparently that was all changing with today. ”Oh God what have I done…” Cameron sobbed into his hands. This was his fault. She had been leaving his apartment after he broke up with her. He had tried everything he could to feel something other then numb before he came to talk to Oliver. Now that’s all he wanted to feel. He listed his head as he sniffled. ”She won’t want to see me. Just…come get me before you take her to surgery. I’ll go sit with Haven.” Cameron couldn’t ethically consult on her treatment. His judgment would be clouded. When Oliver left he let the sobs take over his body, causing it to shake. The flow began to stem before he stood up to pace. Suddenly Cameron lashed out and shoved his fist through the wall, sending plaster everywhere. He hated Kylie’s parents for getting into his head. And he hated himself for letting them get to him and for breaking up with her. If she’d let him, Cameron would make things right. When Oliver came to get him he shook out his hand and mumbled about paying for the repairs. Cameron made his way to the waiting area he knew Haven would be at. When she saw him, the woman came up and slapped him across the face. Cameron-he deserved it. She was angry with him but he could tell she needed someone. And really, aside from some friends, Haven had no one. The two only had each other. He wrapped his arms around Haven and they talked for a moment. Apparently she had gotten a hold of Kylie’s parents and they were on the way. Cameron’s own cell phone rang and he saw it was a British number. Brooklyn he presumed. He answered and he told her everything-including about how he felt it was his fault because he broke up with her. Brooklyn unleashed so many words that it would make a Marine blush. She said the next flight home left in three hours which meant by this time tomorrow she’d be back. Cameron nodded before he hung up and went to get coffee for Haven and himself. Once back the two sat together while they waited for news on how Kylie was doing. click for outfit!

Can't Work Miracles tags;; Cameron/Haven/Brooklyn/ etc;; Having to tell Cameron that Kylie had been the wreck, that she was on a treac tube, that she had no feeling in her legs, was one of the hardest things Oliver had ever had to do. He was just grateful he hadn't had to tell him about the baby on top of it. The look on Cameron's face, the way he instantly dissolved into tears. Oh Oliver knew that all too well. He knew what Cameron was feeling. The woman he loved was hurt and he was blaming himself. Oliver had been there. Except, worse. Because Oliver's wife had died of a heart disease. Oliver was a heart specialist and he hadn't been able to save her. It was the most awful, draining feeling ever. Sighing out of sympathy, Oliver squeezed Cameron's shoulder gently, before he left the room to prepare for surgery, giving Cameron a few minutes to be alone. Coming back to his office one more time, to see if Cameron wanted to see Kylie, he was surprised by the damage inflicted on the wall. Oliver shook his head at Cameron's comment. No...it's alright...I'll see that it's taken care of. Cameron had enough to deal with. Oliver didn't mind paying to have the wall repaired.
Oliver followed Cameron out into the waiting area. He watched as Haven slapped him, then they embraced. He gave them a minute or two before approaching. We're be taking her into surgery in about 5 minutes if you two would like to go in and see her. But don't try to talk to her...We don't want her to try and wake up. Oliver patted them both on the shoulders and went to the O.R.
The surgery, which should have taken 2 hours, took 4. When they got inside, things were a lot worse then they had originally thought. Oliver was able to repair the nerve sac near her spine and was confident she would walk again. But as they were closing her up, her vitals started to drop. The assisting surgeon, Doctor Barnes, noticed the swelling on the left side of her head, which was the side that had been struck, causing the concussion, was worsening. After checking her pupils, which were fully dilated, they had to drill a small whole in her scull, to drain the blood which was putting pressure on her brain. Hoping to keep her relaxed and any neural stimulation down, they decided upon a medically induced coma for the next few days at least, during which they would regularly check Kylie's progress and at the appropriate time, slowly draw her out.
When they had finished, Kylie was placed in a room in the ICU. Oliver went out to talk to Cameron and Haven. He explained the details of the surgery and the complications. She's not out of the woods yet, but we have every confidence that she'll pull through ultimately.
It was just then that Kylie's parents rushed in. Her father seemed worried, but under control. Her mother was nearly hysterical. Oliver took them both to his office and explained everything to them once more. He told them where Kylie's room was and asked that they be very quiet when seeing her. In the hall, they saw Cameron and Haven. I hope you both know much you are to blame for this....If you'd just have let her come how where she belongs, none of this would have happened....I think it's best if you both leave now...and don't come back. We'll take care of Kylie now. Her mother spat. Her father said That's enough...come on, lets go see her. Pulling Kylie's mother away. They walked down the hall and took the elevator to the floor the ICU was on.

Cameron opted out of seeing Kylie before she went into her surgery. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to see her because he did. Just, he felt like he had no right to. He was the cause of all of this and he was sure she wouldn’t want to see him. Instead he watched fom across the hall. He could see a little from his vantage point. She was hooked up to so many machines. After Haven was by his side and Cameron wheeled Kylie’s bed out of the room did he see the full extent of the damage. Cameron had to choke back more sobs as he shook his head. Haven rubbed at his shoulders and asked him what happened earlier. Cameron couldn’t tell her. How could he tell her? Instead he just shook his head. Maybe one day he could tell her or someone else what her parents had said to him but not yet.
The hours dragged by as the two sat in the waiting room. Eventually Haven fell asleep against him. Cameron was unwilling to move anyways. Not just because she was asleep but because he felt completely numb. As he saw Cameron coming down the hall, he stirred Haven. The look on Oliver’s face was grim and the words he spoke confirmed how it hadn’t gone as planned Cameron wrapped a protective arm around Haven. When Kylie’s parents came in he braced himself for the worse. Which came out in full force from her mother. She was the one who was the main perpetrator to driving them apart.
Cameron could tell Haven was about to say something but he stopped her. ”That’s enough! We never stopped your precious daughter from leaving Maine. Maybe if you weren’t such a cold-hearted bitch and listened to what she wanted she may have gone back to you sooner.” His jaw was set and hard. ”You don’t want me to come back? Fine-you’ve got your damn wish. Bt I’ll be damned if you keep her sister form her. If you forget I work here and you don’t. I have my ways to see to it.” Cameron was hurt and hot with anger but he’d rather Kylie’s parents hate him then Haven. It was already evident in how they felt. He asked Haven if she wanted Oliver to take her upstairs but she said not tonight. He led her away from the area while she asked him if Kylie’s parents had said anything cruel like that to him before. Cameron just said nothing as he packed Haven into her car. When he got to his own, his tears fell heavy once more. Cameron wouldn’t even get a chance to see her again. A pain traveled through his whole chest.
When he felt well enough to at least drive, he made his way away from the hospital but he didn’t go to his apartment. He’d be haunted by the ghosts of memories shared with Kylie. Tonight he’d go see Sydni. He had already called Jude before leaving the hospital saying it might be best if he had both of them there. Cameron would need all the support he could possibly get to not end up with a bottle in his hand like his father.

Post by BROOKLYN MARIE SAWYER on Mar 26, 2013 13:18:57 GMT -5
the next day As soon as Brooklyn had gotten the message form Oliver, Brooklyn changed her ticket so she could come home early. Her best friend had been in a car accident and Brooklyn had to be there for her. Brooklyn herself was a mess but held it together fairly well on the plane ride. As soon as her grandmother picked her up, though, she just let the stress overtake her and the tears fall. First everything that happened after the wedding in town and now this. It was a wonder the little brunette didn’t lose her marbles sooner. Brooklyn had decided on the way over to still keep her ring on the chain that had bought and keep it tucked into her shirt. Her grandmother asked about it but Brooklyn said she’d show her later. She wanted to go straight to the hospital. Sleep and food were far from her mind. Brooklyn told her grandmother to just go home-that she’d call a cab or something. Brooklyn went to the receptionist and asked if Oliver was here. When they confirmed he was, she didn’t even ask where he was. She just automatically went to his office. In usual Brooklyn style, she threw the door open but he wasn’t in there. She took her jacket, hat and glasses off before she set them on one of the little chairs. Her body collapsed into the chair on what should be his side of the desk. She wanted a moment to gather herself before going to Kylie’s parents as well as wanted to get an update from Oliver. Her lids felt very heavy from all the crying so she fet her head on his desk to take a short nap while she waited. While she drifted on the edges of sleep, a million thoughts went through her mind. Dominic had been involved in the things with the wedding, Kylie was lying in the hospital, he uncle’s trial was starting in a couple weeks and then she’d have to help her grandmother move form Maine to Massachusetts. All on top of planning a wedding for the summer, getting the shop set up so that she could run it form London, moving to London and her father still wasn’t speaking to her. It seemed like everything was piling up on her. Still, Brooklyn planned to keep it all to herself. She may talk to Tristan as needed as some things she did need his opinion on but otherwise she didn’t want to burden anyone. Already those burdens were exhausting her but the one on the forefront of her mind was Kylie and only Kylie.

Can't Work Miracles tags;; Cameron/Haven/Brooklyn/ etc;; Oliver had been making rounds to all his patients, while continuing to check in on Kylie now and then. The nurses in the ICU were monitoring her closely. Her parents sat in the room with her, refusing to leave for anything. The dedication was heartwarming. They loved their daughter, or at least pretended to. He was annoyed...more than annoyed...plain angry, that they were refusing to let Cameron see Kylie. But it wasn't his place to say. He was just supposed to take care of his patients, not take care of their personal problems. So he'd continue on and do just that, and later, when he was off duty, he'd try his best to comfort Cameron.
A nurse informed him that a woman was waiting for him in his office. Knowing it was Brooklyn, he immediately headed there. He found her sitting in a chair, her eyes red and puffy from tears. Kylie was her best friend, Oliver knew this was going to be very hard on Brooklyn. Kneeling down, he wrapped his arms around the woman , who would soon enough be his sister-in-law. Gently he kissed her cheek, like an older brother might his his younger sisters. Oliver continued to hold her, rubbing his hand up and down her back. She's gonna be ok Brooklyn...I promise you that...I'm not going to let anything happen to her....she's pretty bad off....but we can save her. Don't you worry. He said softly. After a few minutes of silence, Oliver spoke again. Tristan told me about you two. I know it's not the happiest of times to be talking about it...But I'm really happy for both of you...And Kylie is going to be in your wedding Brooklyn...She's a fighter. Oliver gave her one last squeeze, then stood up. You want to go see her now? Her parents are in there, but they won't mind if you see her.
When Brooklyn entered the room, Kylie's mother stood up. You must be Brooklyn. The older woman moved to embrace her daughter's best friend. Kylie's told us all about you ad how wonderful you've been to her. The woman ushered Brooklyn to Kylie's bedside. We'll give you two a few minutes alone dear. The woman motioned to her husband and the two of them left.
Oliver sat at the Nurses desk near Kylie's room, staff buzzing around him as he filled out charts and gave instructions. He looked up when he heard the voice of Kylie's father. Apparently they had more questions about their daughter's condition. Oliver stood up and ushered them into a private room, specifically for consultation with a patients family.

Cameron had said he’d stay away. He told Kylie’s parents that and he told Haven that and he told Oliver that. But he couldn’t. He had to say goodbye just one more. That’s it-one more time. He hadn’t gotten the chance to say goodbye last night but now he wanted to. He spent the night at Sydni’s house literally bawling his eyes out. His best friend tried to convince him to try to fix things when Kylie woke up but he saw no use in it. The damage was done. More damage then he intended. He wanted her to forget about him and move on. Well, she definitely would now. Kylie was bound to hate Cameron Matthews for the rest of her life. Cameron could live with it if it meant she moved on and could live happily with someone else. Anything for her...
Now, he just wanted to say goodbye to satisfy himself. If he did that then he could possibly-slowly-begin to let go.
Cameron went into the hospital and waited around the ICU. One of the doctor’s offices gave him a fairly good view of the area where Kylie’s room was. He was just waiting until her parents left which they seemed intent on not leaving. Cameron was getting frustrated until he saw Oliver and Brooklyn come around. Actually he got more frustrated at first until he saw Oliver lead Kylie’s parents away. As soon as they were far enough away, he slipped out of the office and into Kylie’s room. Oh, Brooklyn unleashed her fury but, like Haven, a lot of it was many emotions boiling over. After Cameron got her calm he explained that he just wanted to see Kylie once more. Just one more time and no one would hear from him concerning her again. Brooklyn reluctantly agreed and went by the door while Cameron grabbed Kylie’s eerily still hand.
A couple stray tears escaped as he leaned forward and pulled her hand to his lips and pressed a soft kiss to it. ”I’m so sorry, Kylie. I hope you’ll forgive me one day. Just know I’ll always love you.” Cameron swallowed a lump before he tentatively pressed a kiss to her forehead and then hurried past Brooklyn. He didn’t want anyone to see what he was feeling. As far as he figured, that’d be the last time he ever got to see the love of his life.

Brooklyn began to get anxious when she opened her eyes again so she got up and paced around. She saw some pictures that Oliver had put around the office and his diplomas. There was one of her, Oliver and Tristan which she picked up. It was from her birthday. A fresh set of tears stung behind her eye lids as she remembered that night. Kylie had helped Oliver with everything. She set the photo back down before she fell back into the chair and reburied her head in her hands. As she heard first steps draw closer to the door she reached up to wipe at the stream. She didn’t want to be crying too hard when Oliver first saw her.
As he knelt in front of her, she found it difficult to hold them back though. Her arms snaked around his shoulders as she buried her head against his shoulder and cried. His words set her mind at ease slightly but it was hard. Brooklyn had had an overwhelming week so even an ant hill seemed like a mountain to her at this point. “I should’ve been here…” she sobbed out. It took a couple minutes before the tears slowed once again. It felt nice to be in his arms. Oliver was so good to her and it felt nice to finally have a “brother”. guilt riddled her as he congratulated her on the engagement. She still wore the ring on the chain as it was tugged into her sweater. Brooklyn wasn’t ready to tell her friends yet. Not until kylie was out of the woods and she had a chance to check on dominic. “thank you. I’m going to wait to tell everyone here, though.” Brooklyn ran her hands over her cheeks again as she licked at her dry lips. She nodded numbly before she got up to follow him out, not bothering to grab her outerwear since they’d probably be better off in here.
The sight of Kylie lying so lifeless in the bed shattered Brooklyn. The two had only known each other for about six months but they had become very close. Her eyesight only left the blond girl when kylie’s mother wrapped her up in a hug. “yeah that’s me.” kylie often talked about her family and life in Chicago but she didn’t know she talked about her or her life here to them. She should’ve figured though. “we often talk about you both as well.” the normally chatty Brooklyn wasn’t sure what else to say. All she wanted was to be near her best friend right now. The two seemed able to sense that and left her alone with kylie. She looked over her shoulder and watched them disappear down the hall with oliver. Tentatively she moved beside kylie’s bed/ one hand clasped around hers while the other rubbed at her forearm. Brooklyn tried to hold back her tears.
Brooklyn remembered from soldier friends of her father’s who were in comas that oftentimes people could hear people speaking to them. She drew in a deep breath of air to try to steady her nerves. “hey kylie it’s me. My happy ass flew all the way from London for you. Seriously I have a feeling we’ll be doing this often as you travel the world and become a fabulous designer.” she gulped back a lump of emotions as she rolled her eyes upwards to gaze at the ceiling in an attempt to keep from crying again. “you’ll also have to travel a bunch because you need to be my maid of honor. Yeah, Tristan asked me to marry him. And I need you to help me put my dress together and then you can design your bridesmaids dress. It will be so much fun! Especially the bachelorette party. I may say no strippers around Tristan but woman, you better give me a hunk of man in a g-string. If not for me then for you. Better yet get two. One to dances for me and the other girls and one to give you a private dance.” Brooklyn knew kylie wasn’t like that but she knew to keep positive and maybe even humorous so that the person had a reason to fight. Her coma may be medically induced but these things were always iffy. “so you keep being a fight ok? Just like when you set out to find haven. Which, don’t worry, I plan to go check on her sometime tonight or in the morning. I know you said she tends to freak out a bit when alone and since the douche is gone, I’ll take a step in while you come out and start to boss oliver around. Which, as his future sister in law, I give you full person to make him do whatever you want.”
Brooklyn kept rambling on about stupid things from the shop to how excited she was to move to England to how sweet kylie’s parents seemed when she heard someone come through the doorway. Brooklyn immediately stood, the anger evident on her face when she saw who it was. She pushed him back away from the bed and though her voice was low so she didn‘t let her tone evident to kylie, it was still hard and cold. “what do you think you’re doing here? Do you not remember my birthday when I threatened to shoot you if you ever hurt her? That still stands. I took a chance in telling kylie tobe with you and you do this. break up with her just after valentine’s day which causes her to get into an accident. You’re a pig.” Brooklyn was known to turn on any person on a dime if they did anything that severely displeased her. This more then displeased Brooklyn-this royally pissed her off. Cameron explained why he was here and the two started to argue. Finally she relented but said he only had a couple minutes. Brooklyn stood in the doorway to watch for kylie’s parents because they disliked cameron. She really couldn’t blame them now. As he finished up, her head tilted towards her shoulder slightly as she listened to his words. If you really loved someone you didn’t just break up with them like that. None of it made sense. Yes she had originally pushed Tristan away but anyone who knew her, her past and her general upbringing ing would know why. This, with cameron, didn’t make sense.
She said nothing as she watched him walk away. Brooklyn pushed away from the door frame and went back to kylie’s bedside. She remained there, even after her parents came back, and only left when visiting hours were done for non-family members. But brooklyn made sure to come back every single day, waiting for kylie to open her eyes.

SEVERAL DAYS LATER
[/size] It had been nearly a week since Kylie had been rushed to the hospital after a severe accident, that had proved fatal for the small child that had been carried in her womb. The injuries Kylie had suffered, had nearly cost her, her own life, forcing the doctors to put her in a medically induced coma. They had promised the family and friends who kept constant vigil, waiting for her to open her eyes, that she would in time. They had explained that when the injury in her brain had healed sufficiently, her body would bring itself out of the comatose state. Kylie herself, despite being in the coma, had been aware of some of the things that went on around her. Though she hadn't been able to decipher what had been real and what had been dreams. She had heard her sister, her parents, and her best friend begging her to wake up, to come back to them. Kylie answered them! She'd yell to them, telling them she was here, that she could hear them. But in her drugged state, she couldn't understand why they never heard her. In reality, while Kylie was screaming inside, her body lay silent and lifeless to those around her. Kylie first opened her eyes 6 days after the accident. It was 2 more days before she was taken off the ventilator and able to breathe on her own, though the doctors kept her on a constant supply of oxygen to be safe. She felt weak and sickly and tired, but better than she had. Her throat was still healing for them irritation of the ventilator, so what voice she had was faint and weak, but it was there and she could finally communicate without having to write what she needed to say on paper. But conversations were still slightly difficult, due to her brain injury. She had a hard time focusing and following what people were saying, so she often had to ask those speaking to her to explain or elaborate. It was frustrating to Kylie, but those around her, were just glad to see her awake and communicating. Kylie had been relieved that she could feel her legs. The Doctors did say however, that she would need physical therapy and constant care in order to regain her full strength and mobility. But they weren't ready to start that yet. She was on complete bed rest for the time being. Kylie had still decided not to tell her parents or Cameron about the baby. As far as Cameron went, she kept wishing that maybe he would show up to see her, to take it all back, to get them back on track. But at the same time, she was glad he didn't, because she'd have felt like he was only doing it because he felt sorry for her. Kylie wanted his love, not his pity. After speaking with her parents for a while, Kylie asked them if she could have some time alone with Brooklyn. They of course willingly granted it to her and left the best friends alone for nearly an hour. When I was in the coma...I don't know what was a dream and what was reality...But I thought you said something about....Tristan and a ring? A smile tugged at the corners of mouth as she waited to hear if she'd heard and understood right. Tears came to her eyes. Tears of joy for her best friend, mixed with tears of pity for herself, but she kept that bit hidden from Brooklyn as best she could. Well if I have to do it from a wheelchair, I'm going down that aisle...I wouldn't miss being your maid of honor for anything. Though she had Haven, her blood sister in her life now, Brooklyn was still like a sister to Kylie and the bond they shared couldn't be broken. They talked for a while about the wedding and Kylie admired Brooklyn's ring, all the while keeping an upbeat temperament and showing only happiness for Brooklyn, hiding her other emotions deep within herself for now. Kylie didn't want Brooklyn's happiness to be spoiled in anyway. However, there was something she ad to tell Brooklyn. Haven was the only other person who knew, besides her doctor back in Chicago, and Oliver. When they did get around to discussing the accident, Kylie told Brooklyn about the greatest loss in all this. Brooklyn...I have to tell you something...Something you can never tell my parents, or Cameron...especially not Cameron Kylie sniffled and wiped tears that slid down her cheeks uncontrollably. I was...pregnant...and, I lost the baby in the accident...And Cameron just can't know...Not now...I don't understand why he did, what he did...But I know it would just kill him...I will find a way to tell him someday. But right now, I know he'd come running back and he'd take me back out of pity and guilt and I don't want that for me and I don't want that for him....I... Kylie closed her eyes, and covered her face with her hands for a few moments. I just want him to...to be able to move on and be happy....And I'm going to try my darnedest to do the same....But it hurts...It all hurts so much Brooklyn....I don't think I'll ever be the same. Kylie could handle the breakup with Cameron, even if it had shattered her. But the loss of the child was what sent this all over the top and made it almost completely unbearable. If it hadn't been for the fact that Kylie had so many people around that loved her so much, she might have taken her own life. Brooklyn was exhausted. When not at the hospital with Kylie she was going to see Dominic to help him out now that he was home and also checking on Summer. She would spend a few hours at the shop. Brooklyn had yet to even start planning her wedding. At least Tristan understood. The only two things set were they wanted it in Italy and Brooklyn would sketch her dress when sitting beside Kylie. Brooklyn would ramble on about just random things going on around the town and in the news. Occasionally she’d pip in something about some gown she was designing. Brooklyn would doze off at the ICU and Kylie’s parents would send her home. Exhausting but she would do anything for her friends.
When she had woken up, Brooklyn had been so happy. She held Haven as Kylie’s sister cried. Until she was taken off the vent, Brooklyn gave Kylie some space. Plus, it’d be best if Kylie’s parents and Haven got plenty of time with her. Eventually she was invited back to the hospital and Brooklyn was happy. She enjoyed time in the room with Kylie and her parents before Kylie asked that the two got to talk alone. Brooklyn kept to the side until they were alone, then she went beside Kylie. Brooklyn was just happy to see Kylie with her eyes opening and able to move around.
She smiled tensely as she nodded. “Yeah, he proposed while I was in England. I…just wanted to try to tell you positive things to help you. That might not have been the best thing to say considering.” Brooklyn shrugged her shoulders. She felt out of her skin as she didn’t know what to say to make things better about the breakup. Her eyes welled up slightly. “That will be amazing. You even get to design your own dress!” Brooklyn wasn’t unaware of how Kylie was probably feeling. The blonde may try to hide it from the brunette but Brooklyn didn’t want to cause her friend anymore pain. For the time being she’d leave the subject alone.
They talked about other things including the accident for the time being. When kylie mentioned about telling Brooklyn something, she simply nodded as she listened. Brooklyn’s heart broke for her friend. She bit down on her lower lip. From what she gathered Haven was rooting for Kylie and Cameron to get back together because she knew something but Brooklyn didn’t care. Cameron had hurt her best friend and that’s what mattered to her. “I don’t know why he did anything either but I won’t tell him anything. I wish I could’ve been here hon.” Brooklyn moved to sit on the edge of the bed and pull Kylie into her arms, smoothing her golden locks back. “I’m sorry about the baby, Kylie. So very sorry.” Brooklyn held Kylie like this and soothed her while she cried until she fell back asleep. No long after Kylie’s parents came around. Apparently they were getting a private plane to fly Kylie home in a couple days after their doctor got to Maine so he could ride along. Brooklyn would be allowed to come say goodbye, along with Haven, though she sensed Haven wasn’t one they wanted to have come around. Still, Brooklyn was glad to be able to say goodbye, even if it would hurt. Thankfully she would be able to fly out whenever she wanted.
