Having the day off felt great, but at the same time twenty year old Keela Hylls wasn't sure what to do. She was sitting on the couch watching her two year old daughter, Julia, play with some toys on the floor. Keela looked towards the window. It was sunny out, and looked pretty warm. But it was still winter, so it could be cold. Getting up, she walked over to the window, and opened it a little, sticking her hand out to feel how cold or warm it was. There was a light breeze, but over all, it felt pretty warm, for a winter day that is.
Being her hand back in, Keela decided maybe an outing would do both her and Julia was good. Rather then going to work and back home, Keela hadn't been out much, and while Julia had been out, it was only to walk around the apartment building the two lived in. Having made up her mind, Keela went to her room; both her and Julia would still in their P.Js. Keela went to her dresser and pulled out black pants, and a white and blue striped, long sleeve shirt. After putting them on, she walked out of her room and went into Julia's. She pulled out a long sleeve, white shirt with red writing that said, "Little angel." She also got pink pants. She left Julia's room and picked up her two years old daughter. "Let's go to the park," Keela said, getting Julia dressed.
A few minutes later, once both Keela and Julia were dressed and clean, Keela was pulling out the stroll and baby bag from the closet. Through she always made sure the bag always had everything she were need when she left the house, Keela checked to make sure everything was in the bag. Diapers, money were all in the bag. Keela smiled as she put the bag on the stroller, then picked up Julia and put her in the stroll, belting Julia in.
A little while later, Keela and Julia were at the park. There were a few other people at the park, but not many, which Keela was grateful for, she didn't want to deal with anyone today. Usually, Keela would put Julia in the swings for a while, but today she decided to let Julia decide what she wanted to do first. So, taking Julia out of the stroller, Keela set her on the ground, and walked closely behind her daughter as Julia head for the playground.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2zgu9hc.jpg); width: 440px; padding-top:10px;]the girl in the moon --- Lexi hummed as she walked along the make shift pavement trails of the park. Her back was draped across her body as she kept her hands in the pocket of her mint green peacoat. Her grey boats made soft pounding noises to make her presence known to anyone walking ahead of her. She dressed warmly in dark trouser like jeans, a red knit sweater and a grey t-shirt underneath it. She had some knee length socks on as well. Still, she skipped a hat and gloves today. She hated them-always had and always will. The only exceptions were rock climbing and doing some hard labor like lugging around firewood. Otherwise she felt uncomfortable so Lexi layered up with everything else and kept her head and hands free.
She moved through the park and reached up to smooth out the side of her hair without the braid. It was a habit of hers. She liked looking nice when in public. One, to represent her family well and two, to keep up the appearance that she’s a perfectly happy woman. Most people knew she was married and her husband had passed, but not about everything that had happened. And they knew she was pregnant but not what had happened to the baby. Most people were wise and kept out of her face. It’s not like she wanted to tell every Joe Shmo what had gone in her life. Those awful things had happened to her in California. Now she was here, back in Hope Harbor, trying to move on with her life. She wasn’t really ready to dive into a relationship but Lexi found a certain level of peace.
Lexi’s phone went off and she pulled it out. It was Daniel checking up on her. She swore sometimes that man acted more like her father then her own father did! But she loved her cousin dearly so indulged him. She even took a photo of herself with a smile, making sure to get a good shot of the park in it as well. She hit send but when she looked over the photo again she saw two familiar figures in the background. Lexi turned around and smiled softly. ”Hey Keela, how are you doing today?”

Julia's little legs would going faster then she could keep up with, and she soon fell on the ground. Keela took two steps and was next to her daughter in a second, checking her over. Other than a bit of dirt on Julia's hands, she was other wise fine. "What a fall, huh Julies," Keela said smiling. She picked up Julia and set her on her feet. Julia set off again, this time a little bit more slowly. Keela was watching Julia start to climb the stairs when she heard a voice call her name.
Keela turned her head to see Alexandria, or rather Lexi. She waved before answering. "Hi Lexi. I'm doing fine. How about you?" Keela hadn't know Lexi for long, but what she did know of her, Keela liked. And though Lexi seemed a bit older then Keela, Keela still saw her as a kinda friend.

Her own son would have been four this year if his heart hadn’t stopped while she was still pregnant. Sometimes playgrounds made her sad. Other times they made her happy to see the innocent lives as they moved around. Just children who didn’t know of every evil in the world. At least she hoped they didn’t.
Lexi shrugged and chuckled. ”Ok I guess. Kind of bored. I never know what to do on my days off.” Most days she just went to other towns and shopped the thrift stores or antique shops. Today she didn’t feel like it. ”Were you two experiencing the lovely Maine cabin fever? Don’t worry, it even hits those of us born and raised here.” She smiled knowingly, but with a hint of humor, as she nodded. There were many days she missed having the California sun on her skin but, then again, she also loved being around her family and the snow. tag: keelah outfit: click! lyric credit: everly notes: -- |

Keela nodded in agreement when Lexi said that she never knew what to do with her days off. Mainly Keela spent her days off with Julia, but wasn't always sure what to do with her. Keela turned to watch Julia for a few seconds. The toddler was at the top of a slide, getting ready to slide down. Keela didn't like not bring right beside Julia, like she usually was, but at the same time she knew that Julia had to learn had to do things on her own. Still, it was a bit weird.
Keela turned back to Lexi. "Yeah. We've been in the apartment most of last week. We needed to get out for a bit." It wasn't so much the snow that made her stay in, she grew up in Ontario, Canada, it was the fact she was a homebody. She loved being at home. However, it was still nice to get out once in a while.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2zgu9hc.jpg); width: 440px; padding-top:10px;]the girl in the moon --- Lexi turned to Keela and removed a hand from her pocket. She casually used her thumb to point in the younger girl’s direction as she tilted her head to the side just slightly. ”You know if you ever get that way, just let me know. We could go do something like shopping at the mall the next town over. We can put Julia’s car seat in my car so I can drive. There’s even a Chuck-E-Cheese that we could go to for lunch and Julia can run around and play.” Lexi loved kids. She sometimes babysat a couple friends kids when they needed a night out. Those few hours with them filled the ache in her heart and filled it with laughter and joy.
Maybe one day Lexi would adopt a little boy or girl. She had a job plus more then enough money in her trust fun that the adoption agency would approve her despite being single. Lexi wasn’t sure if she wanted to get married again. She hadn’t even been on a date since her husband had died. Yes, she had gone back to her maiden name and stopped wearing her wedding rings but that didn’t mean she was ready to five back into the dating pool just yet.

Keela nodded, thinking over Lexi's idea. "Julia probably doesn't fit in her car seat anymore." Keela had brought one about a year ago, just in case, but hadn't really used it, not having a car and all. Still, she could maybe get one, and mention this to Lexi. "I might be able to get a new one if she had out grown the one we have right now." Keela hadn't been to a Chuck-E-Cheese, at least not that she could remember, so it would be quite an experience for both Julia and Keela.
Keela couldn't remember much before the age of seven and a half, meaning she didn't remember much about her parents. The things she did remember was their names, Julie and Tom, why they had chosen the name Keela, and going to the park often with them. Julia had been named after Keela's mom, and Keela knew that when she had a boy, she would name him Thomas after her father. Other then that, she could remember much. She knew what they had looked like, but only because she had a picture of them.
Keela turned towards the play ground to check on Julia. The little girl was headed up the stairs again.

She knew Keela was a single, working mom and finances were probably tight. Lexi, well, she had money. She wanted to offer to buy a new car seat but didn’t want to offend her either. She knew money was something that could always make people feel uncomfortable when approached the wrong way. ”Have you thought about taking it to a baby consignment shop? You may be able to swap it for a booster seat that they There’s one in the shopping outlets.” Lexi knew about it because she was buying some stuff for Leila and Daniel’s baby. They didn’t know the gender but they had some books and cute little toys there.
Lexi could tell Keela really loved her daughter. There were some parents it really showed and others which just didn’t. ”How’s work been going for you?”

When Keela was younger, she always dreamed of having a family and a well paying job. She imaged of having a husband that loved her the same way she thought her dad loved her mom. In her dreams she also had a couple of kids that she would love more than the world. They would also have a nice house, with a few pets.
That dream, obviously, didn't happen. At times she was a bit upset about that, though at the same time, she wouldn't give up Julia for anything.
When Lexi asked if Keela had though about taking the baby seat to a baby consignment shop, Keela shook her head. "No, actually, I haven't," she answered. Than she nodded. "I'll have to check it out one of these days."
Then Lexi asked about work, and Keela groaned. "Work is....work." Keela didn't care much about working, she would much rather have been going to college or spending her days with Julia. But they needed a roof over their heads, food in their stomach, and clothes to wear. And all of that cost money, so Keela had to work. "What about you? How's work?" Keela asked.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2zgu9hc.jpg); width: 440px; padding-top:10px;]the girl in the moon --- Lexi knew not many people knew about the place. It was set off in the corner of the outlets but it still did well enough to stay open. Renting out a building in that area was unreal. ”Yeah you can even bring anything else of Julia’s she’s outgrown and they’ll give you either store credit or cash. I’ve been going there to get some things for Leila and Daniel’s baby.” She laughed. ”Ok maybe more then a little.”
Even if the thought of being in the same household as a baby killed Lexi, she was burying her own feelings. She couldn’t forever live with the cloud of her son over her head. No, she didn’t want to forget him just she also didn’t want to be bogged down by it all the time. That was part of why she threw herself into work so much. For a little while, Lexi could forget about all the bad in this world that had touched her life.
Lexi shrugged. ”Eh it’s been crazy. It’s flu season so everyone is coming in with that. Plus all kinds of falls on the ice and kids sticking their tongues to cold metal things.” She turned to watch Julia while she smiled fondly. ”How’s Julia taking to daycare? Or did you decide to just go with a regular sitter?”

"Hmm," Keela said, thinking over what Julia had but didn't need anymore. Then she titled her head, frowning. "Leila and Daniel...Those names sound familiar, but I can't place them." Even though she usually kept to herself, Keela had been living in Hope Harbor for about two years, so she knew of a few people.
While Lexi talked about her job, Keela looked at the playground to check on Julia again. The little girl was getting ready to slide down the slide. Keela smiled, then turned back to Lexi when she had about how Julia was taking to daycare. "I went with a regular sitter. It was cheaper," Keela answered. With only so much money to work with, Keela usually had to go with the cheaper option, even if she didn't always want to.
"And Julia likes the sitter. And she's really good with Julia." Keela couldn't asked for a better babysitter. The woman was always on time or early, so Keela was never late for work. And she was always willing to play with Julia, and she didn't care if Keela couldn't pay her on time. Sometimes Keela wondered how she got so lucky with Julia's sitter.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2zgu9hc.jpg); width: 440px; padding-top:10px;]the girl in the moon --- ”Well Daniel is my cousin and he owns the sports therapy place here in town. Our family is also one of the founding families so I don’t know you could recgonize that name that way.” She paused to think about how she could possibly know Leila. ”Hmmm I think one of Leila’s cousins works with you. Something Ford? I know they’re really close so I’m sure she goes to see him often.” Lexi couldn’t keep track of everyone’s names. Her head was spinning with names from helping get invitations to family members. Plus the issue with the whole town being allowed to come. It wasn’t even her wedding and she felt overwhelmed.
Lexi was glad she had found a decent babysitter. Sometimes people swindled you if they knew you were in a desperate situation. With this economy everyone was doing anything they could to get by. ”that’s good at least.” Lexi took a look around the park and shifted on her feet. ”Hey did you and Julia want to get some lunch with me? My treat.” Lexi was starving and she thought it might be fun if they could have lunch together.

Keela nodded as Lexi explained who Daniel and Leila were. She still couldn't put a face to the name, but she did know who Lexi was talking about. Keela looked back at the playground, spotting Julia sitting on the ground, playing with another little girl who looked about the same age as her. Keela smiled in their direction. It was nice to see Julia interacting with other kids her age, since she didn't get that a lot.
Keela turned back to Lexi when the other woman suggested lunch. Keela bit her lip, thinking it over. She was getting a bit hungry, but didn't feel right letting Lexi pay for the whole meal. "That sounds good, but I can't let you pay for the whole meal on your own." Keela couldn't remember the last time she got something for free, and now it felt a little weird when she did.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2zgu9hc.jpg); width: 440px; padding-top:10px;]the girl in the moon --- Sometimes it was hard being around her friends with kids or walking by the playground when at the park. Lexi felt an ache travel deep within her. No one understood it. Yes, something women could say they would do anything for a child but unless you lose a child-held their still form in their arms-you couldn’t say too much. At least she no longer cried whenever she saw a mother and her young children interacting. The first few months after losing Zachary that’s all Lexi did.
Lexi shrugged. ”I was just going to use it to go shopping and really Daniel will kill me if I bring anymore clothes into his house. Plus it’s more fun to spoil a friend then yourself.” When Lexi did these things like pay for meals it wasn’t “out of charity” or guilty. She purely enjoyed it. Maybe part of it was selfish. She wanted to feel better since Ian’s parents had made her feel awful for their son’s death. So now Lexi did whatever she did to feel good about herself and make others feel good. If spoiling a friend helped then that’s what she did. Work really helped keep her mind off things as well. More then most people realized.

Keela laughed a little when Lexi said that she was just going to use the money to shop. "I guess you have a lot of clothes....or is it all for the baby?" Most of Julia's baby clothes, and some of the clothes she had now, were second-hand. Keela didn't really mind wearing second-hand clothes, though it was nice to have something new once in a while.
She sighed quietly to herself. "I guess it would be okay..." Keela still wasn't sure about letting Lexi pay for her lunch. She did like the fact that Lexi considered her a friend, however. Keela didn't have many friends in Hope Harbor, at least she didn't think so. So having at least one was nice. She looked over at Julia, who was still playing in the sand with the other little girl.
Keela smiled watching them. Her daughter could always make Keela smile. She turned back to Lexi. "And what place were you thinking of?"
